Ragne Wiklund has beaten that time and skated her way into the gold medal position.

She made mistakes in that final lap too so could have been quicker than the one minute and 54.15 seconds she recorded.

There are just two pairs left to go and this is where we expect to see the fastest times.

Looking down from the gods on the packed stands here, it is around 90% Canada supporters in the stands.

But it is the 10% who are making all the noise. That was a brilliant Finnish goal and one which puts them in total control.

    Wow, wow, wow!

Finland score a second on a Canadian power play!

Erik Haula finds himself in space to attack and finishes well to make it 2-0, and that's while they had Sebastian Aho in the penalty box.

Canada had started the second period well but that could be a big body blow.

Oh hello, we have a new leader!

Canada's Valerie Maltais has just skated the fastest time yet of one minute and 54.40 seconds, which is 0.39 seconds quicker than Femke Kok of the Netherlands.

That's pushed Italy's Francesca Lollobrigida out of the medal positions.

The 1500m requires speed and endurance and Francesca Lollobrigida certainly has the endurance, but I think she lacked a bit of that speed.

You might be asking how one player missing could make such a big difference, when you look at this Canada team that has some of the best superstars in the world - yes, Sidney Crosby is that important.

Canada missing injured Crosby?published at 16:22 GMT 20 February

    Men's ice hockey semi-finals - Canada 0-1 Finland

    Seth Bennett
Ice hockey commentator on BBC One

Canada know how to win but the biggest part here is they are missing a key piece of their jigsaw.

When you don't have Sidney Crosby, you miss a great leader, you miss a lot of experience and on top of that you miss a guy that just knows how to play in all key situations. He adds a perfect balance to this Canadian team.

That's the challenge that Canada coach Jon Cooper has - he's trying to find a different balance and as yet he's not quite got the mix right.

    Speed Skating - Women's 1500m

Italy's Francesca Lollobrigida is also in this event and you can tell because whenever the camera pans to her there's raucous noise from the stands.

This is the 35-year-old's weaker distance, but she's in winning form as she has already won two golds at these Games in 3000m and 5000m.

It's the end of the first period and Finland lead.

A lot of people may have been guilty of already looking ahead to a blockbuster Canada v USA final - particularly those of us who fancy a bit of drama.

But Finland are Olympic champions for a reason and have been the better side so far. They deservedly lead.

No sooner is Canada's Sam Bennett sent to the penalty box, Finland take the lead! He was only in there for two seconds!

From the face-off that resumed play after Bennett was penalised for an offence against the opposing netminder, the puck is nudged back to Mikko Rantanen, who powers one into the top corner past Jordan Binnington.

I think both Femke Kok and Marijke Groenewoud probably realise these two times may not be quick enough to get on the podium.

There's a number of big names still to come.
