We gave everything in that last end and it just wasn't to be.

That is such a hard thing for them to take. They wanted gold, that silver four years ago hurt them.

Meanwhile, it's smooth as you like from Laura Nolte and Deborah Levi and that’s gold for Germany in the two-woman bobsleigh.

Their overall time of 3:48:46 seals the gold medal with their compatriots Lisa Buckwist and Neele Schuten 0.53 seconds behind, they take silver.

American team Kaillie Armbruster Humphries and Jasmine Jones claim bronze.

Ultimately Team GB's Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Hammy McMillan, Bobby Lammie - and alternate Kyle Waddell - could not quite get it done against Canada. They had to settle for silver yet again, just as they did in Beijing four years ago.

This Scottish quartet believed standing atop the podium was their destiny this time. Indeed, Mouat referred to it as "our gold medal" after Thursday’s epic semi-final win against Switzerland.

But the cloak of invincibility they have worn for much of this four-year Olympic cycle slipped against the Canadians - just as it did during the round-robin stages - and left the world champions wondering what might have been.

One day, though, they will likely come to cherish those silver medals and their country will celebrate these four young men.

GB have to settle for second best again.

They started so well, were in control of the match and had opportunities but Canada got better as the match went on.

The turning point was when they picked up the three (in the ninth end) which could have been a four.

It was so close all the way through that final. After seven ends, it was all square, Great Britain had the hammer next and were probably favourites.

But Canada really stepped it up in the final three ends.

That ninth end, when Canada took three, proved to be the key moment.

A big run by Kaillie Armbruster Humphries and she’s very pleased with that. The American waves her arms in the air as she comes up the finish straight with an overall time of 3:49:21.

She’s secured herself a medal but what colour will it be?

Grant Hardie chips out one of the yellows. There are loads of reds in the house but Canada are still lying two and they're well protected.

Just the skips left to play and GB have the hammer in this end, remember.

Canada are under two minutes on the time clock, GB are under three minutes.

Neither team now have a time out left as well, so you won't want to be having too many more discussions.

You have got to use the Canadian stones to rest on, which makes it much more difficult for Canada to remove your reds because they will possibly jam on their own stones at the back.

Try to use them to your advantage.
