    She looked set to win gold as Francesca Lollobrigida began to tire on the final lap, but the Italian dug deep and pipped her.

    Francesca Lollobrigida has her second gold of the Games!

    The Italian crosses the line in six minutes and 46.17 seconds to knock Merel Conijn of the Netherlands into silver.

    0.10 seconds faster than Conijn is the thinnest of margins, but she won't care because she is a double Olympic gold medallist!

    From the start, Ragne Wiklund looked like she was challenging Merel Conijn's time. Wiklund almost just dances over the ice, she looked very good out there.

    That slip up at the end cost her. She was about two seconds ahead with 40 metres to go. All she had to do was make no mistakes, the tiredness hitting her legs and she just let it slip away from her.

    Merel Conijn can't believe it!

    Despite powering through the 5000m it is not enough for first place.

    The Norwegian crossed the line in six minutes and 46.34 seconds putting her in the silver medal position.

    Wiklund claimed silver in the women's 3000m on Saturday so is one of the favourites to medal in this final.

    She has a time of six minutes and 46.28 seconds to beat.

    We have a new leader in this women's 5000m final!

    Merel Conijn of the Netherlands has crossed the line in six minutes and 46.28 seconds. That's over 11 seconds faster than Marina Zoueva, who went into the half-way stage in first position.

    Belgium's Sandrine Tas was 0.20 seconds behind Conijn and is in silver medal position.
