Australia's Baff wins snowboard cross gold

It's been quite the couple of days for Josie Baff.

Yesterday the Australian saw her boyfriend, Canada's Eliot Grondin win the silver medal in the men's snowboard cross - and today she's gone one better.

Two medals to celebrate, plus the bragging rights for Baff. Doesn't get much better...

There's a sign there that Josie Baff has got so much more to come. If she can hold her line on the world's biggest stage with all those athletes behind her like that, then she's got a cracking future.

They were all right on her tail and she still managed to do it. Bright future. Can't wait to see what else she has in store.

The latest round of games in the men's ice hockey have not long finished.

And speaking of Finnish (shout out to Antti Niemi), the defending champions claimed a big win over fierce rivals Sweden.

There was the usual argy-bargy as Finland won 4-1, going 2-0 in the first period and never looking back to bounce back from their loss to Slovakia and claim their first win of the Games.

Slovakia made it two wins from two with a 3-2 victory over Italy.

Team GB will be frustrated by that. They were lying shot with one stone left, but a slack throw by Rebecca Morrison opens the door for South Korea. Fortunately, they too are a little off and can only take one.

  5. Fillon Maillet shines in biathlon - but Norway finish strongpublished at 14:01 GMT 13 February

    Biathlon - Men's 10km Sprint

The Norwegians have struck again, finishing strongly to deny France the chance of a second medal in this event.

Quentin Fillon Maillet seems set for gold - his nation's third of these Games - but Vetle Sjaastad Christiansen and Sturla Holm Lagried have both sneaked into medal spots pushing France's Emilien Jacquelin into fourth.

That could be another bronze for Lagried, who who hit the headlines when he confessed on live television to cheating on his girlfriend earlier in the week.

There are athletes still out on the course so that result is to be confirmed.

Watching the interview with Charlotte Bankes. She tried so hard and that is all we can ask. Love that attitude.

I really think Charlotte did everything she could after her initial mistake. It wasn't the day for her, it's heart-breaking.

I hope she doesn't beat herself up, because you started to see her [in her interview] assessing that in the wrong way.

Hopefully she will think about it this evening, reset herself and try to focus on that mixed team event.

Josie Baff has done it! Who saw that coming?!

The Australian raises her arms, almost in disbelief after crossing the line just ahead of Czech Republic's Eva Adamczykova.

She takes the silver medal with Italy's Michela Moioli taking bronze, pipping teenager Noemie Wiedmer of Switzerland to third.

Another great race and it's Baff who takes the gold.

    Biathlon - Men's 10km Sprint

The competition continues in the mountains and France's Quentin Fillon Maillet leads after finishing in 22 minutes 53.1 seconds as he chases an individual gold to go with his team gold from earlier in the programme.

Team-mate Emilien Jacquelin finished 16.1 seconds back and he lies in second.

GB's Bankes eliminated in snowboard cross quarter-finals

Great Britain's Charlotte Bankes spoke to BBC Sport after her exit in today's snowboard cross: "I'm lost, to be honest. I feel like I've done the exact same as what I did four years ago, which is frustrating because we've worked incredibly hard to improve from that.

"I've been struggling with the track all week, to be honest, but we thought we'd found solutions. I really wanted this one, but too many mistakes and I didn't make the right choices. I knew it was going to be a tight battle and I just didn't pull it off.

"I'm normally good at making the right choices and the overtakes. I made a good start, until I made a mistake which killed my speed. I ended up in the wrong places and didn't manage to find space. It's a tough one to swallow.

"Sorry. I was hoping to put on a better show but it didn't work out today. It can be cruel. We'll re-group for Sunday and hopefully put on a better show."

Very disappointing Olympic performance from the Brits so far seem they cannot bring their A-game on the biggest stage?

    It's time for the final!

Sadly no Charlotte Bankes, and having talked up France's glut of medal contenders earlier, we reach the final and none of them have made it either.

After Chloe Trespeuch followed Bankes in making a quarter-final exit, Julia Nirani-Pereira then Lea Casta went out in the semis.

Italy's Michela Moioli won her semi-final, with Switzerland's Noemie Wiedmer going through in second.

The other finalists are Czech Republic's Eva Adamczykova and Josie Baff of Australia, the duo who got past Bankes in the quarters.

Andrew Musgrave finished sixth in the 10km interval start freestyle earlier - Britain's best finish in a Winter Olympic cross-country skiing event - and spoke to BBC Sport afterwards.

He said: "It was good, but I was still beaten by too many Norwegians!"

"I went out, did the first two laps super well and everything went to plan. With 2.5km left, I put myself in the fight for a medal but I think I went too fast because the last two hills were so hard. I lost a ridiculous amount of time.

"I was never going to be in the fight for a medal, but I probably should have got that fourth spot. But there isn't a massive difference to sixth, without a medal."

On vomiting after the race: "When it's short and hard like this you get such high levels of lactic acid. It messes with your digestion so I had to go for a quick vomit! I've had a bit of water and I'm feeling good again."

Rebecca Morrison: “Unique” is how more than one of her team-mates describe her. Always up for a giggle. And although Team Morrison are named after her she is no longer the skip.

Sophie Sinclair: “Chatty, bubbly, doesn’t stop talking,” according to one of her rink. “The one who will hide around a corner and jump out on you,” says another. One of alternate Fay Henderson’s jobs will be to occupy her during the day when the rest want a nap.

Jen Dodds: The team call themselves “Jen and the kids”, given the Beijing gold medallist is that little bit older. She’s competitive, meticulous and freakishly strong, and is “the one you want around when things kick off”.

Sophie Jackson: The skip of the team and perhaps the most outwardly reserved. One of her team-mates describes her as “a force” and a combination of logical and caring.
