Two-time Olympic snowboard champion Lindsey Jacobellis spoke to BBC Sport about the prospect of returning for the 2030 Games: "Being here, I still feel like I'm feeling the anxiety of the starting gates, feeling my heart pump. I want to be in the mix, that is something I can just turn off overnight.

"I didn't want to torture myself trying to come back seven months post-partum, I wanted to take time for my family and enjoy these early months, maybe years with my daughter, slowly making a game plan. If the reality is that I wanted to come back, I was giving myself time.

"Maybe I will get back in the start gate, who knows?"

Britain's Andrew Musgrave performs brilliantly to finish sixth with Joe Davies 12th and James Clugnet 34th.

I was with Charlotte [when she lost out in Beijing]. It was heart-breaking to see her not get through, and I think she will have carried that through to Milan knowing that every race counts.

You cannot think ahead and you very much have to be in that moment. I hope that she is what she is focussing on going into the first round.

Two-time Olympic snowboard champion Lindsey Jacobellis spoke to BBC Sport about Team GB's Charlotte Bankes: "She can absolutely be a very dangerous competitor.

"She knows how to carry speed and if there is a draft, she can find it and really try to minimise any mistakes and capitalise on others' mistakes; we have seen that in the men's side so we can be sure she could take that opportunity.

"She is not alone though; there is many amazing females. Eva Adamczykova, Chloe Trespeuch, and we have some young guns as well.

"I am very excited to see this unfold. Anything can happen in snowboard cross."

  10. Bankes focused on her riding, not medalspublished at 12:14 GMT 13 February

I was in Beijing four years ago when, despite being an overwhelming favourite, Charlotte Bankes crashed out in the quarter-finals in a real shock result.

She's got a medal collection bursting at the seams and yet an Olympic medal is the one that has continued to evade her.

I spoke to her before the Games got under way and I asked her what a podium finish today would mean to her.

"It's been the main focus for the last four years, but I know that I just need to focus on my riding. For me to actually be able to ride at my full potential on race day, if I manage to do that I'll be happy and satsifed," she said.

"I know if I'm doing that, I'm probably going to be fast, so it should end up in a good result as well."

It’s getting close to the start of Charlotte Bankes’s bid for women’s snowboard cross glory.

All 32 riders took part in the seeding runs earlier and the draw for the first knockout round, which will have eight heats with four riders, is complete.

With everyone bidding for the best position as they go down the course and only two to go through from each heat, there are thrills and spills guaranteed.

Bankes will go in heat two alongside Sina Siegenthaler of Switzerland, Australia’s Abbey Wilson and China’s Pang Chuyuan.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day in Cortina, the sun is shining, the sky is blue.

That looks like a third gold of these Games and an eighth overall for Norwegian star Johannes Hosflot Klaebo.

The victory will see him tie the all-time Winter Olympic record, held jointly by a trio of his compatriots - cross country skiers Bjorn Dahlie and Marit Bjoergen and biathlete Ole Einar Bjorndalen.

And he could yet add to the tally later in the programme.

  17. Hedegart falls shortpublished at 11:45 GMT 13 February

Klaebo's dominance looked like being ended by team-mate Einar Hedegart who led his compatriot at every checkpoint apart from the last one,

Hedegart tired very late on and finished 14 seconds down on Klaebo to sit in third.

France's Mathis Deloges is in second after finishing 4.9 seconds down on Klaebo.

Andrew Musgrave is in sixth spot which would be the best-ever finish in the event for a Briton.

Joe Davies is 12th and James Clugnet 34th but there are still athletes out on the course so the full result is to be confirmed.

History-chasing Johannes Hosflot Klaebo has taken the lead with a time of 20:36.2

The Norwegian must now wait to see if that is good enough for gold.

Britain's Andrew Musgrave is in third and could be on course for his best-ever Olympic finish (which is seventh).
