We are heading into the big guns now at Assago Forum - 17 skaters down, the top 12 to go.

Among those in the next six are the two big Italian hopes for medals, Matteo Rizzo and Daniel Grassl.

It was Rizzo who produced a brilliant skate in the team event to secure bronze for Italy. Let's see what he can do in the individual competition.

In case you missed it (and sorry for bringing back bad memories if you didn't), Great Britain missed out on a bronze medal in the curling mixed doubles, losing 5-3 to Italy.

Here's what Bruce Mouat and Jen Dodds had to say after the match.

Tomas-Llorenc Guarino Sabate is currently only one place outside the qualification places for the free skate.

The quality gets higher the later we go in the evening - but if anyone slips up, the Minion could go through.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-2 USA

At the end of the first period in Milan, USA lead Canada 2-0 thanks to goals from Caroline Harvey and Hannah Bilka.

It's been all America in the opening 20 minutes. They've out-shot Canada 11-4 and out-muscled them.

On the few occasions a Canadian player has enjoyed a spell of possession in USA's third, they've cut an isolated figure or found the brick wall that is Laila Edwards bearing down on them. What a formidable presence in defence she is.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-2 USA

Oh, USA really should be leading 3-0! They walk through the Canadian defence again and get a shot away, forcing a sharp reflex stop from Ann-Renee Desbiens at her near post.

It's been too easy for USA.

Figure skating - men's singles short programme

Over in the figure skating, Cha Junhwan of South Korea is the 15th skater out on the ice.

24 of the 29 competitors will progress from the short program, with nine already assured of qualification.

It's a big score for Cha, 92.72, he's the 10th man through and that total puts him top of the leaderboard ahead of Andrew Torgashev of the United States (88.94).

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-2 USA

Oh yes! Brilliant from Abbey Murphy!

She sprints down the right wing and wins the foot race to the puck to negate a possible icing call, spins around defender Erin Ambrose and puts the puck on a plate for Hannah Bilka to tuck in at the back post.

    USA lead 2-0.

Slovenia become back-to-back Olympic champions in the mixed team ski jumping!

It is 26-year-old Domen Prevc who seals the deal with a gigantic 102m jump. He usually flies through the air, and he was gliding like a bird tonight.

They finish on 1069.2 points, giving another brilliant account of themselves in this event. Pure domination.

Norway's Marius Lindvik pulled out another big jump when it mattered most to seal a silver medal for the world champions, while Japan's Ren Nikaido finished up with a 101m jump to seal bronze.

Boom. USA's Laila Edwards has just trampled her way through an unsuspecting Canadian forward.

We're into the final five minutes of the first period. USA lead 1-0 and have out-shot Canada 9-3.

If you're an ice hockey newbie, one of the more important rules to get your head around is icing - which we've just seen a couple of examples of.

Icing is when a player sends the puck from inside their own half to beyond the opposing team's red goal line without scoring a goal and without anyone touching it.

The puck is then returned to one of the two face-off circles in the offending team's defensive third.

Anyone would think Slovenia are the home nation!

Nika Prevc posts another huge jump for the defending Olympic champions, hitting a distance of 98.5m. The coaches are punching the air after every single jump - and for good reason!

Norway are right back in silver medal contention as well thanks to Eirin Kvandal, who holds great shape through the air to record an impressive 99.5m jump.

Sara Takanashi, who has 63 World Cup wins to her name, didn't quite do enough on her 97m jump though, with Japan dropping in to third.

It is really nip and tuck between Austria and Germany as well, who seem to be battling it out for fourth now.

    1. Slovenia - 927.7 points
    2. Norway - 904.4 points
    3. Japan - 899.9 points
    4. Germany - 891.9 points
    5. Austria - 887.0 points

More argy-bargy around the Canadian goal following a long-range effort from USA defender Haley Winn, which is comfortably saved.

With 20 seconds left in the powerplay, USA's Megan Keller shoots from the blue line and brings a solid save from Ann-Renee Desbiens.

Her opposite number Aerin Frankel hasn't had an awful lot to do in the first half of this period.

Canada are back to full strength.

This evening just keeps getting better and better for Slovenia!

Anze Lanisek strengthens the defending champions' position at the top of the standings with one of the biggest jumps of the night. He was absolutely rock-solid through the air and gets rewarded with the distance.

It is disappointing news for Norway though, with Kristoffer Sundal shaking his head on impact after his under-par 97m jump. The world champions would've been hoping to leapfrog Japan at this stage in the event.

    Here are the current standings:

    1. Slovenia - 795.0 points
    2. Japan - 774.3 points
    3. Norway - 773.0 points
    4. Austria - 768.0 points
    5. Germany - 764.0 points

    On we go...

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-1 USA

There's a bit of a scrap around the Canadian goal after some contact on goal-tender Ann-Renee Desbiens. You can't touch the goalie and get away unscathed - that's hockey 101.

USA go on the powerplay for an earlier penalty against Blayre Turnbull for an illegal hit on Abbey Murphy.

Turnbull goes to the box for two minutes. USA will have 5-4 player advantage.

USA make the breakthrough after just 3:45!

Defender Caroline Harvey lets rip from distance and the puck goes through Ann-Rene Desbiens' legs.

Was she deceived by a deflection or unsighted? There were a lot of bodies in her way.

Either way, USA won't care! They lead 1-0.

    Women's ice hockey - Canada 0-0 USA

Canada enjoy a spell of possession in USA's third, forward Julia Gosling pinning Lee Stecklein to the plexi behind USA's goal as they battle for the puck.

However, it's USA who bring the first meaningful save of the match, Ann-Renee Desbiens making herself big to deny USA captain Hilary Knight.

    Ski jumping - mixed team

There are still no upsets to report in the mixed team ski jumping event at the Predazzo Ski Jumping Stadium.

Nika Vodan would've felt plenty of pressure on her shoulders jumping last, but her fantastic take-off saw her record a 98.5m jump to keep Slovenia at the top of the standings.

Japan's Nozomi Maruyama did enough on her jump to maintain her country's position, while Anna Odine Stroem executed a beautiful 101m jump to see Norway hold on to third.

There are plenty of numbers to take in during this event, but the most important one is the overall total:

    1. Slovenia - 653.0 points
    2. Norway - 642.9 points
    3. Japan - 640.0 points
    4. Austria - 625.3 points
    5. Germany - 624.1 points

Before we get too engrossed in the action, both teams have absolutely nailed their kits.

Canada big and bold in red, USA's white base with blue and red detailing and diagonal text giving shades of New York Rangers.

Both teams are feeling their way into this one - understandable, it's a huge match.
