A round of applause for Jess Perlmutter. The commitment to go for that! She made it down to the bottom, but that one is going to sting.

Chin up Jess, that was really good.

One more chance for glory for the 12 runners in the women's snowboard slopestyle final.

USA's 16-year-old Jess Perlmutter looks on course to improve her current fifth position but just fails to land her final trick.

Perlmutter was born in December 2009. I feel old.

Going into the second shoot of the leg, Oceane Michelon has extended France's lead to 46 seconds - a superb turnaround after their penalty on the first leg.

They lead from Norway and Sweden - who have also down well to work back from their penalty earlier in the event.

However Latvia have slipped to 17th after suffering two penalty loops on the first shoot of this leg.

A lot to do with the course and everyone is struggling with speed. They are slowly getting there, they're having to find the best tactics.

Team GB's Matt Weston has just turned up at the curling. I'm assuming he's 70% lager and 30% pizza by this stage of his celebrations after that double skeleton gold...

    Snowboarding - Women's slopestyle final

    Tim Warwood
Snowboard and freestyle skiing commentator on BBC iPlayer

I am thinking that rail error costs Zoi Sadowski-Synnott. The judges want to see everything done really cleanly.

  7. 'A gold medal run'published at 14:28 GMT 18 February

    Before the score was announced...

That is a gold medal run from Zoi Sadowski-Synnott.

Bewilderment in the BBC commentary box as Zoi Sadowski-Synnott scores 77.61 with her second run. Ed Leigh thought it was enough to take the lead.

The New Zealander remains in fourth spot, with Japan's Mari Fukada in the lead with one run remaining.

    France lead!

Oceane Michelon takes her team back to the top of the standings going into the first shoot of her leg.

Five out of five targets hit too - top shooting and she's back on her skis!

Kokomo Murase had got the bit between the teeth, she was finding speed from somewhere and we saw glimpses of what might have been.

    Snowboarding - Women's slopestyle final

Kokomo Murase - the women's big air gold medallist a few days ago - led at the end of run one but has since been overtaken by fellow Japanese competitor Mari Fukada.

What can she do in response?

A landing goes awry midway through the run and it means she doesn't improve.

Just New Zealand's Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, the defending champion, left to go in run two.

  13. 'GB look like themselves'published at 14:24 GMT 18 February

Curling - GB men 6-2 United States

    Vicky Wright
Olympic gold medallist curler on BBC iPlayer

Team GB have come out firing from the very first stone with a steal of essentially six points in the first half.

They look like themselves today. It's the first time this week they have collectively been 'on it'.

  14. 'Fresh snow creating friction'published at 14:22 GMT 18 February

    Snowboarding - Women's slopestyle final

    Ed Leigh
Snowboarding and freestyle skiing commentator on BBC iPlayer

Max in Surrey asks: What is making the conditions harder for the women's slopestyle final?

For me, it is the huge amount of fresh snow we saw yesterday. They are able to compact it down and groom the slopes, but you have this softer snow and then there was the very cold temperatures.

It suddenly starts warming up and, walking out between competitions, there are puddles around. You have fresh snow creating so much friction.

All of Bruce Mouat's shots are giving him more and more confidence.

He is back to the guy we have seen over the last four or five years, playing at the top level.

Another filthy Bruce Mouat shot wipes two red American stones from the house. And there's a smile back on his face.

What can Daniel Casper do this time? He's made it and puts two on the board to cut the lead to four at the interval.

Now it's leaders Germany who incur a penalty!

Franziska Preuss has to do an extra loop and her team drop to 12th.

Norway briefly take the lead before they are overtaken by Bulgaria and Latvia.

Meanwhile France have recovered to fourth - great work for Lou Jeanmonnot.

    Richard Winton

Angus in Ayrshire and Christine in Norwich have both asked about the stopwatches or counters that the curlers hold.

Those are so they can time how long a stone takes to travel from one hog line to another (those are the green lines across the ice). Knowing that information allows them to better just how heavily to throw the stone. And they are keeping all that information in their heads, which I find unfathomably impressive.

Australia's Ally Hickman takes a very heavy fall early in her second run and stays down on the snow for a little while.

She quickly gets some medical attention and thankfully she is able to walk off to the side of the course.

A reminder of the dangers of this sport.
