What a run that is by Mikaela Shiffrin.

She sets the pace for this women's slalom, with a time of 47.13 seconds, which is 0.82 seconds faster than Lena Duerr in second and over a full second faster than world champion Camille Rast in third.

The American raises a clenched fist as she crosses the line. She's happy with that.

I hope we see the Mikaela Shiffrin showdown today, she massively deserves it.

We get a huge amount of viewers who only tune in for the Winter Olympics, so let's go back to her achievements; she is consistently the best skier week in week out and has 108 World Cup wins. Her conversion rate for wins is 36%, which is higher than Roger Federer's most dominant season. That is how good she is.

Slalom is absolutely ruthless and you have to push your limit. She struggled in the team combined event when [the piste] was salted, but the good news is that it has been colder over the last three days so the surface is fantastic.

I really hope she does it. There is no-one in the history of the sport who deserves it more, to reclaim that gold today.

  3. Can Shiffrin get back on the podium?published at 09:10 GMT 18 February

A two-time gold medallist, Mikaela Shiffrin has struggled to recapture her form on the Olympic stage that saw her win gold at both Sochi 2014 and Pyeongchang 2018.

In Beijing, she failed to finish the slalom and giant slalom, along with the slalom part of the combined team event.

Shiffrin did cross the finish line in the giant slalom this time, but in 11th place, while she narrowly missed out on a medal in the combined event - despite her team-mate Breezy Johnson putting down the fastest run in the downhill.

Can she get back on the podium today? The American is just about to head out on her first run...

One thing that you need for a Winter Olympics? Well, snow of course!

    But not too much!

The weather caused a headache for organisers yesterday, with the women's snowboard slopestyle final and aerials qualification called off because of a heavy snow storms.

The slopestyle and the women's aerials have been re-arranged for today, meaning we now have nine golds on offer.

The men's aerials (qualification and the final) take place on Thursday.
