World number 132 Roman Safiullin, speaking on court two after beating 24th seed Joao Fonseca: "From the final round of qualifying until now, I've faced super tough matches. I've been saving match points, spending four hours on court each match, battling through five sets. It was super tough, but I'm very happy to perform at this level and finally win in three sets today."

On missing time on the tour because of injury last year and his journey back to fitness: "After the US Open, I had to stop playing to treat my injury. That time was super tough for me because half a year ago I didn't know if I would be able to come back.

"I didn't know, so I'm super happy to be back here."

    Rinderknech v Djokovic

The usual hum on Centre Court is getting slightly louder as spectators begin to take their seats, awaiting the arrivals of Novak Djokovic and Arthur Rinderknech.

Usain Bolt, the 100m world record holder, is in the Royal Box.

And it looks like there's been a proposal in the stands. I presume it was accepted as there are lots of cheers in the stands.

  4. Osaka holdspublished at 13:30 BST 3 July

    Osaka 5-0 Kasatkina*

Daria Kasatkina has come to life! Down 0-30, she mixes things up with a drop shot and Naomi Osaka, who was hampered by a slip, can't make up the ground.

The next point, she digs in as the pair exchange belted groundstrokes and eventually gets on top, dragging Osaka across the baseline before unleashing a forehand winner. Osaka applauds before the second bounce.

But Osaka holds to 30 to leave Kasatkina serving to stay in the set.

    Maz Farookhi
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live and BBC Sounds at Wembley

Osaka has started like she really means business. They haven't even played 20 minutes yet and Kasatkina is shaking her head, she has no answers at the moment. Osaka is playing like an absolute bullet train.

    *Osaka 4-0 Kasatkina

A rather inevitable double-break for the 14th seed, who is making light work of Daria Kasatkina. This time, she winds up for a cross-court winner off her forehand wing.

  9. A special start to the daypublished at 13:25 BST 3 July

    Rinderknech v Djokovic

    Harry Poole
    BBC Sport at Wimbledon

It is one of the best things about Wimbledon that you can be walking past a random outside court and happen upon some of the world's top players practising just metres away from you.

And they don't come any bigger than Novak Djokovic.

It's safe to say youngster Naomi was absolutely delighted to receive one of the balls used by Djokovic during his hitting session with Hubert Hurkacz!

Naomi and her dad are off to Court One today, where she was already super excited to watch Naomi Osaka, Coco Gauff and Jannik Sinner in action.

They're going to have to produce special performances to top this experience, however.

Naomi, her dad tells me, is a very talented player herself. Maybe fans will one day be crowding around these courts hoping to see her practising before a big match at Wimbledon...

  13. Safiullin 'didn't give Fonseca a sniff'published at 13:24 BST 3 July

    Peter Odgers
    Commentator on BBC Two

Simply sensational from Roman Safiullin! The complete performance.

I'm not sure even he would've thought he could play that well on a tennis court. He didn't give Joao Fonseca a sniff.

For the second time in his career, he is through to the last 16. He completely outplayed and outclassed one of the young starts of this sport.

    Osaka 3-0 Kasatkina*

A let off for Daria Kasatkina. On her second break point, Naomi Osaka opens up the court but her down-the-line backhand drifts wide.

  15. Break points Osakapublished at 13:23 BST 3 July

    Osaka 3-0 Kasatkina*

Daria Kasatkina's serve is all over the place.

An 81mph second serve is gobbled up by Naomi Osaka, who wallops a cross-court forehand winner for 15-all.

It's followed by a double fault and then a tame first serve which Osaka once again returns with venom. Kasatkina puts her reply into the base of the net.

  16. game, set and match

Game, set and match - Safiullinpublished at 13:22 BST 3 July

    Safiullin 6-3 6-3 6-3 Fonseca

Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca is out of Wimbledon.

For the second year in a row, he's lost in the third round to a qualifier outside the world's top 100.

Last year it was Nicolas Jarry, this year it's Roman Safiullin, who has been outstanding on Court Two today.

He deserves all of the plaudits coming his way for what's been a brilliant display, and he could face Novak Djokovic in the fourth round.

Game, set and match - Arevalo/Pavicpublished at 13:21 BST 3 July

    Arevalo/Pavic 6-1 6-7(7-4) 6-4 Stevenson/Willis

Not to be for British pair David Stevenson and Marcus Willis.

They put up a good fight against sixth seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic to take the second set and push it close in the third.

Willis even took a serve right in the back of his head from Stevenson as they served to stay in it, but it still didn't hinder them as they saved three match points in the final game.

However, they couldn't complete the comeback and miss out on a spot in the third round of the men's doubles.

As Roman Safiullin prepares to serve for the match:

The question would ordinarily be: 'Is he going to blink?'

But I don't think Roman Safiullin has all match.

  19. Postpublished at 13:19 BST 3 July

Daria Kasatkina's serve is one of the weaker parts of her game and Naomi Osaka has took full advantage of that from the off.

The ball makes a lovely ping sound that echoes around Court One as she secures the break with a down-the-line winner.

  20. Osaka holds to lovepublished at 13:19 BST 3 July

    Osaka 3-0 Kasatkina*

A breezy hold for Naomi Osaka, sealed with an ace. 11 minutes on the board and the four-time Grand Slam champion leads 3-0.
