Maya Joint races to a 40-0 lead, using the full dimensions of the court to dictate the points.

But Serena Williams rolls back the years with a couple of powerful returns, the last one a clean winner for 40-all.

  4. Williams must 'commit to the shot more'published at 20:20 BST 30 June

What I'm seeing courtside is that on the second serve in particular, Serena Williams is just moving back while she is still in the motion, so she has lost that commitment there.

You can also she is overthinking the first move off the split steps a little bit. There just isn't that innate commitment, and obviously that's because of rust. I feel like she would be better off picking up the first serve percentage and committing to the shot more.

  5. Cobolli levels match against Navonepublished at 20:18 BST 30 June

    *Navone 6-1 6-7 (5-7) 0-0 Cobolli

Italy's Flavio Cobolli thrilled the crowds at the French Open earlier this month on his way to reaching a first Grand Slam final, in which he was beaten by Alexander Zverev.

The ninth seed was in a spot of bother in his first-round match at Wimbledon, losing the first set 6-1 to Mariano Navone and falling a break behind in the second.

But Cobolli has recovered to take the set on a tie-break and it's now one set all.

This is one of several matches still ongoing which you can watch live on the BBC iPlayer.

An early break for Australian Maya Joint. Her backhand is quite lovely and so far, she's been all over Serena Williams' second serve.

    *Wawrinka 7-6 (9-7) 6-7 (16-18) 2-2 Berrettini

Would you be surprised if I told you that this one is on serve with no breaks in the third set?

Incredible serving standard by both players in the first two and a half hours of this match.

There was a break in play at the end of the second set while the roof was closed.

"Come on!" says Maya Joint after winding up for a forehand, taking the ball above shoulder height and firing the winner cross-court. Serena Williams was flat-footed on the baseline.

Ace followed by a double fault... rather sums up the evening for Serena Williams.

At 40-30, she's hanging in the point as Maya Joint bangs deep returns onto her backhand and eventually Williams sends a reply long.

Maya Joint did an incredible job there actually. You've got to think that her heart rate was sky-rocketing when she walked out onto Centre Court.

I couldn't even hear what everyone was saying half the time, the reception was so loud, so to be able to weather that is great.

Serena Williams can only applaud her opponent and the rest of Centre Court follows her lead. A deserved one-set lead for Maya Joint.

Well played, Maya Joint! My goodness, how much hullabaloo has she had to deal with over the past few days?

This is a real pinch-me moment for her because she has just taken the first set off Serena Williams on Centre Court - and she played fabulously.

  13. The set in statspublished at 20:13 BST 30 June

    The key numbers...

Maya Joint only made 59% of her first serves but won 71% of points behind her second.

The Australian struck 10 winners to Serena Williams' five and 11 unforced errors to her opponent's 13.

Crucially, she converted one of her two break points and saved the two she faced.

Maya Joint can indeed! On her Centre Court debut, she's taken the first set off Serena Williams, sealing the deal with a cross-court forehand winner.

Work to do for Williams, who's had flashes of her best (that forehand return at the start of the ninth game, for example) but looked a little flat overall.

My gosh, Serena Williams gave that a tidy smote!

There's that serial winner spirit from Serena Williams. She lets out a guttural roar after watching Maya Joint send the ball long.

There's a collective groan from the crowd as she double faults and the whispers grow louder when she misses her first serve on the next point.

She'll have been used to rowdy playing crowds back in her prime, but this atmosphere feels like a whole different kettle of fish.
