Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

You can see the relief on Iga Swiatek's face! She has her face in her towel and she is shedding a few tears. It was a very intense match.

After losing that second set, she actually went off court. The moment it turned was in the very first game of the third set, which saw Swiatek have to save four break points. It was absolutely pivotal and vital because she was really losing the momentum of this match.

What a point that was from both women - covering every inch of the court and using all the angles.

    Townsend 1-6 6-2 3-5 Swiatek*

Taylor Townsend mishits a forehand and then a backhand and Iga Swiatek has two chances to break again.

After a lengthy rally, Swiatek opens up the court before putting the decisive forehand away.

Defending champion Swiatek will now serve for the match.

  5. 'Tough day at the office' for Boulterpublished at 15:38 BST

    Boulter 4-6 2-6 Grant

British number two Katie Boulter, speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live following her straight-set defeat by Italy's Tyra Grant: "It was obviously a tough day at the office for me. She played extremely well and disrupted my rhythm very well. I definitely could have played better so I've got quite a few things to work on. It obviously hurts more here at home.

"This year has been about building back up, getting better again and trying to get myself back to where I was after a disappointing year last year. If this wasn't Wimbledon, it probably wouldn't mean as much, but it is and unfortunately that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes. I've got to deal with that.

"It is difficult to think about my game as a whole too much. I need to go away and work on focusing more on the positives of this year. Ultimately my ranking is going back up again, but I want to be performing better in these weeks.

"I feel like I have too much to give to ultimately be losing these matches. I deserve to give back more to the home crowd, but unfortunately today I didn't."

A brilliant second-serve return by Jacob Fearnley on break point gives the British player the perfect start to the deciding set against Alex Michelsen.

This could be a huge win for Fearnley, who is now outside the world's top 150, having been in the top 50 about 12 months ago.

I really don't know what has happened to Iga. She can just fall apart in any match now. Since her ban she hasn't been the same player.

  10. Townsend breaks backpublished at 15:34 BST

    *Townsend 1-6 6-2 3-4 Swiatek

At 15-30, Iga Swiatek gets a big slice of luck as a backhand clips the net and drops agonisingly onto Taylor Townsend's side.

A ninth double fault of the match, however, gives Townsend the chance to break straight back and she does it as Swiatek plants a forehand long.

    Townsend screams in celebration.

  11. Shelton taken to fifth setpublished at 15:32 BST

    Virtanen 6-4 3-6 6-7 (8-10) 6-2 0-0 Shelton*

Fourth seed Ben Shelton is going to have to go the distance on court two.

Finland's Otto Virtanen broke the American's serve in the opening game and again in the seventh to take the fourth set 6-2.

Shelton reached the quarter-finals in 2025.

  12. 'Townsend really pegged back to the baseline'published at 15:30 BST

    Townsend 1-6 6-2 2-4 Swiatek*

    Marion Bartoli
Former Wimbledon champion on BBC Radio 5 Live

That's just one of the rare occasions where Taylor Townsend hasn't done enough on her legs to get herself in position to play her slice. She was really pegged back to the baseline, she was reaching for the ball rather than moving her feet and getting up to it.

That's what got her into real danger of that break of serve.

  13. Swiatek breakspublished at 15:29 BST

    Townsend 1-6 6-2 2-4 Swiatek*

Iga Swiatek has a chance now as Taylor Townsend is forced into a mistake and the Polish third seed has a spring in her step as she walks back to the baseline at 0-30.

A low return over the net brings up two break points and Swiatek makes them count as Townsend can't lift a volley over the net.

The defending champion showed her quality there.

  14. Game and first set - Samuelpublished at 15:29 BST

    Mensik 5-7 0-0 Samuel*

Is Great Britain's Toby Samuel about to cause a big upset?

They're going all the way on court 15!

From two sets down, Great Britain's Jacob Fearnley has fought back to level the match and force a deciding set.

Fearnley saved a break point when serving for the set with a tremendous cross-court forehand winner, and takes it into a fifth with an excellent serve with Alex Michelsen couldn't get back in play.

    *Townsend 1-6 6-2 2-3 Swiatek

  17. Rybakina breakspublished at 15:24 BST

    *Rybakina 1-0 Boisson

Former champion Elena Rybakina has broken in the opening game on court one.

She led 0-40 before Lois Boisson fought back to deuce, but a double fault at 40-all proved costly for the Frenchwoman.

  18. Townsend holdspublished at 15:23 BST

    Townsend 1-6 6-2 2-2 Swiatek*

Taylor Townsend is serving well but a fine return from Iga Swiatek just clips the line, bringing oohs from the crowd.

Townsend fights back to hold with a delicate volley at the net which gives Swiatek no chance.

    Dzumhur 6-3 2-6 2-6 1-6 Fery

    A second British winner!

Arthur Fery follows Katie Swan's earlier victory with a four-set win against Damir Dzumhur.

Fery trailed by a set and a break but fought back superbly - as well as dealing with a nosebleed in the third set - to reach round two for the second consecutive year.

American fourth seed Ben Shelton may be his second-round opponent and if so, might that match be on one of the show courts on Thursday?
