    Trump 0-1 Selby

    Dennis Taylor
1985 world champion on BBC One

It's OK switching hands but when you're playing at that pace it's difficult.

It's a tough enough shot with your correct hand.

  2. Postpublished at 13:58 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-1 Selby

Mark Selby pushes the boat out a bit too far after an errant positional shot, missing a tricky red and leaving Judd Trump in.

The world number one pots a very missable pink to middle to keep the break going - and he quickly gets up to 40 and counting.

But then he misses a red wildly after switching hands from left to right due to the position of the cue ball. Big chance again for Selby.

  3. Postpublished at 13:50 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-1 Selby

Bit of a role reversal to begin frame two.

Judd Trump plays some solid Selby-esque safety.

Mark Selby thumps in a stunning long Trump-esque red to get himself in.

Has there ever been a better 77 break in the history of snooker?!? Take a bow, Mark Selby.

  5. 'What a player'published at 13:48 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-1 Selby

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC One

What a player Mark Selby is - he comes to the table, starts with a three-ball plant and you think he might get 20 and get back into the frame.

You look at the table and you're not really thinking he's going to clear up.

Judd Trump was expecting to come back to the table at some stage, without a doubt.

Just phenomenal play - we probably won't see a better break all day in the final than that. The last shot to bring the red out over the middle - the perfect pace, just genius.

  6. 'Vintage Selby'published at 13:45 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-1 Selby

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport at York Barbican

The shot to get on and nudge the final red brought a collective 'what a shot' comment from reporters in the media room.

To win the frame at that visit is just vintage Mark Selby.

  7. Selby snatches the openerpublished at 13:44 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-1 Selby

Unreal 77 clearance from Mark Selby.

Again just look where the balls were in that 13:36 post.

It's only the opening frame but that will deal a huge psychological blow to Judd Trump.

  8. 'Won't see a better break'published at 13:43 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

    Dennis Taylor
1985 world champion on BBC One

You won't see a better break than this.

  9. Stunning shot from Selbypublished at 13:42 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

    WHAT A SHOT Mark Selby.

See that red on the side cushion in the 13:36 entry? Selby pots the blue, comes off the baulk cushion with the cue ball and nudges the red right over the middle pocket with stunning accuracy and perfect pace.

I said the clearance was unlikely. Serve me those words on a plate with some seasoning.

  10. Postpublished at 13:40 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

Mark Selby is taking care of these reds very nicely one by one.

A clearance is unlikely with the final two reds near bottom and side cushions.

But he's right back in this frame, having looked heavy second favourite at one stage.

The penultimate red just sneaks in along the cushion - and that was very lucky, as it hit the rail a good couple inches before the pocket but just dropped.

  11. 'Great counter-attack opportunity'published at 13:37 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

    Ken Doherty
1997 world champion on BBC Two

This is a great opportunity for a counter-attack from Mark Selby.

  12. Postpublished at 13:37 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

The world number one's plans have gone awry though. He leaves a three-ball plant, red-black-red, that Selby sinks to give himself a great chance of getting back into this frame.

  13. Postpublished at 13:36 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

Judd Trump has a lead of 51 - which, given the position of the balls, is a very healthy advantage.

He's going to try to nurse that lead, force an error from Mark Selby and pot the few more balls he needs to seal this attritional opening frame.

  14. Lady Luck favouring Trumppublished at 13:31 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

Judd Trump goes for a long red, misses it but leaves nothing easy.

Mark Selby goes for an equally tricky red, misses it - and leaves it over the bag.

Lady Luck favouring the 'Ace in the Pack' there. And it does again when he misses a routine red two shots later - but again leaves it safe.

  15. Watch: What a yellowpublished at 13:27 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

So, back to a bit of a safety exchange ongoing in this opening frame of the final.

But Judd Trump had no safety in mind when he banged in this stunning yellow earlier.

  16. Postpublished at 13:27 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport at York Barbican

The slightly earlier broadcast start on BBC One caught one or two people out in the press room.

Master of Ceremonies Rob Walker was in the auditorium early but there were photographers scrambling to get out and get shots of plays on the walk out.

  17. Selby concedes four foulspublished at 13:26 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

Judd Trump has Mark Selby in bother in baulk behind the brown.

The Jester has nine reds to aim for but is aiming for one on the black cushion - and has missed it four times, conceding 16 foul points and giving Trump a healthy 46-3.

He hits it at the fifth attempt and leaves it safe - so in the end, it was probably worth it, as the reds are all open and Trump would likely have won the frame if left in.

  18. 'Like a comfortable pair of old shoes'published at 13:20 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC One

I think Judd Trump looks more confident in his long game and around the table.

His positional play is better - I don't think he'll stick with his cue, but it looks like he's found a comfortable old pair of shoes that fits him perfectly.

  19. 'Trump still not satisfied with cue'published at 13:17 GMT 7 December 2025

    Trump 0-0 Selby

    Steve Sutcliffe
    BBC Sport at York Barbican

Judd Trump's cue troubles have been well-documented this season.

He is clearly more comfortable and effective having reverted back to his old cue but he is still not entirely satisfied, and suggested he would like to have a new weapon of choice come the Masters in January.

The world number one has only made a couple of century breaks during the entire tournament and told reporters that he is 99% certain that he will go in a different direction after this tournament.
