This has been an imperious start from Wu Yize.

The 22-year-old follows up a 93 break in the first frame with one of 92 to establish an early two-frame cushion.

Wu starts with a break of 25 but is forced into a safety shot. Lei Peifan pots a difficult red but misses a black into the middle pocket.

After that Wu makes hay and completes the clearance.

John Higgins gets to 50 in frame 11 and then leaves himself with a horrid awkward pot from right on the side cushion. These take really good cueing and the Scot does not disappoint.

When he is playing like this, he is so hard to stop and he gets the frame done with a break of 81.

John Higgins did a good job to take control of that frame. It must have been a shock to the system to go from 4-0 to be 5-4 behind overnight.

He is experienced to know that with every session at the Crucible you wipe the slate clean and go again.

Ideal start for the four-time world champion.

Both players look in good form. Lei Peifan missed the one with the rest but apart from that it was pretty good. However, Wu Yize needed one chance and it allowed him to take the opening frame.

Lei Peifan opens up with a break of 32 but can only find the jaw of the pocket when he attempts to pot a red into the corner pocket using the rest.

It proves a key moment in the frame.

Wu Yize seizes the opportunity and calmly goes about clearing up the rest of the table en route to a break of 93.

An impressive start by number 10 Wu.

Wu Yize is regarded as one of China's biggest talents after world champion Zhao Xintong.

He won the International Championship earlier this season and has reached the semi-finals of the World Open, Welsh Open and the Masters.

He starts as favourite against Lei Peifan, who shocked Kyren Wilson, 12 months ago.

Here we go again. Tough one to call this match.

Ali Carter has actually won four of his previous five meetings against John Higgins (excluding the Championship League) and will probably relish the prospect of a potential last-16 meeting against Ronnie O'Sullivan.

Higgins has reached three finals this term but failed to convert any of them into W's.

But he is a four-time world champion and has repeatedly shown that he simply can never be discounted.

As the crowds disperse and the Crucible readies itself for this afternoon, it's time for a little break.

British teenager Stan Moody made a hugely impressive debut at the Crucible as he moved into a 6-3 lead in his World Championship first-round match against former winner Kyren Wilson.

Moody, 19, needs four more frames to become the youngest player to win a match at the famous Sheffield theatre since a 19-year-old Ronnie O'Sullivan beat Dave Harold 10-3 in round one in 1995.

Wilson, the 2024 champion, will have to win seven frames in Monday's evening session, which begins at 19:00 BST, if he is to advance.

After getting a great reception from the crowd, Moody, who comes from Halifax, less than 50 miles away from the Crucible, made an instant impact with a break of 84.

He then took the next two, including a break of 91, before Wilson won two frames in a row. However, Moody responded superbly with two centuries in three frames, 110 in frame six and then 101 two frames later.

Wilson claimed the final frame of the session, to reduce the deficit to three.

Moody is 44th in the world rankings and had to win two matches to qualify.

The day before his final qualifying match he had been in hospital with tonsillitis but discharged himself, against medical advice, before playing and beating China's Jiang Jun 10-9 to earn his Crucible spot.

Kyren Wilson would still have believed he could win tonight but this last frame feels vital.

He looks like he is cueing well but he has been outplayed this morning, it is as simple as that.

This is a test of Kyren Wilson's cueing and it's on point. 'The Warrior' knocks in a break of 77 to reduce his arrears going into the concluding session this evening.

Is adrenaline kicking in? Stan Moody misses a long red with way too much power. It's a little wild and it allows Kyren Wilson to get his arm on the table in a decent spot on the table.

There's plenty to do from here but if the 2024 champion was anywhere near his best you'd fancy him to make a decent break from this.

A massive match incoming that may increase audience figues and interest in China.

Ding Junhui will take on defending champion Zhao Xintong after wrapping up a first-round victory over David Gilbert with a run of 61 in the 15th frame helping him get over the line.
