  1. Moody increases advantagepublished at 19:29 BST 20 April

    Wilson 3-7 Moody

An early error from Kyren Wilson as he miscues a snooker on the green. A few nerves against the teenager, perhaps?

Both players get a few visits to the table as they don't quite settle and Wilson manages to graft his way to 44 points.

But he fails to pot a long green which allows Moody to go through the gears.

The 19-year-old pots the remaining reds and then completes a clearance on the colours during a break of 55 to win the opening frame of the evening session.

Stan Moody's performance this morning impressed the snooker greats who were commentating on the match for the BBC.

When Moody was 3-0 ahead, seven-time world champion Stephen Hendry said: "This has been as impressive a performance from anyone we've seen in this tournament. It's great to play this way, without thinking of the consequences if you miss.

"He is playing with a freedom of he doesn't care what he leaves if he misses a pot.

"Do you remember when the game was this easy, it seems a long time for me?"

Six-time Crucible winner Steve Davis replied: "I don't remember it being this easy. It is like he is playing down the club. I know it is early days, but it looks like a star is already being born.

"Sometimes you felt at home at the Crucible and you own the place, but the cue action and confidence around the table - he has Kyren Wilson in all sorts of trouble."

John Parrott, world champion in 1991, was another of the BBC team to be impressed by the teenager and said: "Stan Moody has all the attributes and the maturity is coming as well as the talent."

A lot of players come here and suffer from Crucible nerves but Stan Moody came out and embraced it earlier. He loved the crowd and loved the atmosphere and he played wonderful snooker. Don't forget he's playing the world number two!

Stan Moody is the teenager who believes he can do for snooker what Luke Littler has for darts.

Moody, who made his World Championship debut on Monday in the first round against world number two Kyren Wilson, won't be found lacking for confidence or belief in his ability.

"I think it's quite fair," he says of the Littler comparison.

"Snooker's a lot harder than darts, I'd say. There's not many young players coming through."

The 19-year-old Moody is the youngest player in the draw at the Crucible this year.

He sits 44th in snooker's world rankings but is a player many expect to become one of the sport's elite.

  6. Coming up...published at 18:10 BST 20 April

Monday night's schedule for the Crucible

Live coverage on BBC iPlayer and via the 'Watch & listen' tab has finished until the evening session when play will resume at the Crucible.

Top of the bill will be the resumption of 19-year-old Stan Moody's match with Kyren Wilson on table two. Moody leads 6-3 at the moment.

On table one Shaun Murphy's match with China's Fan Zhengyi also gets under way.

We will pause our live text commentary until then, too.

  7. Playing O'Sullivan would be 'a great occasion'published at 18:06 BST 20 April

    Higgins 10-7 Carter

John Higgins, speaking to BBC Sport, after beating Ali Carter in the first round: "There is nobody in the game that has got more respect for Ali as a cueist and a player. He has played against me so many times and been flawless.

"I know he works a lot with Chris Henry and he cues the ball beautiful. The important frame was 8-6.

"It's not really been about the [results in] tournaments for me. It's been the calibre of players I have beaten this season, that's been most important. I've beat Xintong a couple of times, Judd a couple of times, I've beat Selby and Mark Williams. It's those types of players you are putting your game up against and in the last few years I've been losing those big matches.

"I didn't have a good sleep last night but I've been here so many times. [It gets] harder, without a doubt. I'm holding on to any motivation. There's every chance I could be playing Ronnie in the next round which would be a great occasion. We've been there for so many years I would love to play him out there again."

In his entertaining news conference with the media earlier on, Barry Hearn said the new Crucible deal meant he could reward the players better.

"We're going to increase the prize money, having got the Crucible done," said Hearn. "We're not going to go silly, we're going to go sustainable. Next year we will have a review, everything will go up, but not as dramatically as some want."

Hearn mentioned a targeted World Championship prize fund of £3m, up from its existing £2.4m - and that has just been confirmed on the World Snooker Tour website, meaning the 2027 winner's prize moves from £500,000 to £625,000.

The UK Championship prize fund will also go up, from £1.2m to £1.5m, while the winner will take home £312,500, up from £250,000.

Hearn added that the eventual aim was to take the winner's prize money from the Crucible up to the £1m mark.

"By the time we come back here [after the redevelopment], we're at a level that snooker has never been close to," said Hearn. "We're going to look at all the events and concentrate on the blue-ribbon ones.

"But we will get the balance right, so there's a bit of bread for everybody. We will get it right, for the sport and for the individual.

"This is the biggest opportunity in snooker for 20 years."

This has been a wonderful performance from Wu Yize. He's a magical player.

It's been a tough day at the office for Lei Peifan. He'll come out tomorrow and just have a bit of a go. When your opponent needs two frames, you always have a bit of a chance.

  11. 'He is such a tough competitor'published at 17:56 BST 20 April

    Higgins 10-7 Carter

Ali Carter speaking to BBC Sport: "I just thought the ball run was relentless all day, anytime John needed a bit of luck he got it and I didn't and he is such a tough competitor. I knew I would have to scrape him off the table to beat him.

"All credit to John, he is a great competitor and great bloke as well. He is one of the good guys on Tour. John is a legend of the game, it is nice to be on centre stage competing with him.

"He will tell you it was a really good match, a tight match and little bit of form made the difference but that is snooker and that is why we love it."

  12. Wu utterly dominantpublished at 17:55 BST 20 April

    Wu 8-1 Lei

A commanding session from Wu Yize as he puts himself within two frames of victory.

If he plays even half as well as this when they resume tomorrow afternoon he'll breeze into the second round.

Noise from John Higgins' victory over Ali Carters forces Wu to briefly pause on the black during another sizable break. He settles himself before confidently dispatching it.

He goes on to end the session in style with a break of 105.

He would have been under pressure. He came out of the blocks and really played superbly well.

  15. Seeds growing nicelypublished at 17:43 BST 20 April

    Michael Emons
    BBC Sport at the Crucible

With John Higgins and Wu Yize both ahead in their matches, it is continuing a great tournament for the seeds.

If Higgins wins that will be seven out of seven seeded players that would have won their match.

However, third seed Kyren Wilson is in huge danger as he finds himself 6-3 down against Stan Moody with that match finishing tonight.

Two years ago, half of the seeds, eight of 16, lost in the first round, before that figure reduced to six last year.

  17. Wu increases advantagepublished at 17:40 BST 20 April

    Wu 7-1 Lei

Lei Peifan sits down in his seat, shakes his head and looks to the heavens.

A break of 27 is ticking along nicely until - once again - he cannot pot a red cleanly and it splutters against the jaws of the pocket.

The table left behind is not straightforward for Wu Yize but he manages to compile a break of 58 before a missed double on a red into the middle pocket.

Lei ends up snookering himself behind the black on the last red, though, and when Wu returns to the table he punishes his opponent with a confident clearance.

    Higgins 9-7 Carter

With the black and pink tied up John Higgins is playing off baulk colours and the blue and eventually ends up wrong side of the blue after putting the extension on his cue.

That leaves a difficult red to the right corner and but that's not even close and the frame is back in the balance although Higgins does have a handy 43-point lead.

    Higgins 9-7 Carter

Aggressive safety from Ali Carter, who opens the balls up in the 17th frame. This looks like trouble for John Higgins, who can't see a return to baulk.

The Scot is forced into a long red and knocks it in superbly. He follows that up with an incredible pot on the pink to the right middle.

It's amazing how it can change. Ali has always been a gritty, tenacious character. He gives away a lot [with his body language].

Ali was pushing the boat out there. He went for a couple that could have cost him. He is going to go for his shots. He will not lie down.
