  1. 'Allen is more tactically adept than Wu'published at 10:48 BST 2 May

Former World Championship semi-finalist on BBC Two

Allen always seems to find a way back [from difficult situations]. He is more tactically adept than Wu.

You have to win some of the scrappy games and Mark Allen is going to win the vast majority of those.

  2. Allen levels things uppublished at 10:46 BST 2 May

    Wu 8-8 Allen

We're back all square once again.

Off the back of that failed long red from Wu Yize, Mark Allen builds a break of 56 and Wu concedes the frame.

    Back-and-forth we go.

  3. Postpublished at 10:43 BST 2 May

    Wu 8-7 Allen

A real good opportunity for Mark Allen to open up a commanding lead in this frame now.

He delivered a brilliant safety shot that forced Wu Yize into attempting a long red but the 22-year-old could only rattle the jaws of the pocket.

That has opened up the table now for the Northern Irishman to likely level this one back up, should all go to plan.

This is the semi-final you watch and think one of these two will go on to win the tournament. All due respect to John and Shaun but the Snooker these two have been producing has been of the highest order.

    Wu 8-7 Allen

A break of 21 for Mark Allen comes to a close as he misses a red to the middle.

The cue ball hasn't fallen too kindly for Wu Yize, though, and it may be back to as you were with regard to safety shots for now.

  6. Postpublished at 10:32 BST 2 May

    Wu 8-7 Allen

A much slower start to the frame with a couple of safety shots apiece. Wu Yize gets the better of Mark Allen who puts up back-to-back fouls and on his second shot, leaves a red on for Wu.

It's a nine-point lead now for the 22-year-old who looks as though he has a real opportunity to take control of the frame but misses a red in the pack to allow Allen back to the table.

Now 'The Pistol' will look to take control.

Last night I watched an endless frame of snooker. Later, I went to see Waiting for Godot at the theatre. A play about men about the futility of life and the human condition as they wait for an end that never seems to come.

  8. Wu off to hot start with 142 breakpublished at 10:23 BST 2 May

    Wu 8-7 Allen

    "Perfect snooker," says Ken Doherty.

    He's absolutely right.

A 142 break to start the day with some absolutely sublime cueing on display.

Not sure what all that drama yesterday was about. Outstanding snooker.

  9. Century for Wupublished at 10:20 BST 2 May

    Wu 7-7 Allen

Wonderful, wonderful visit from Wu Yize who moves beyond the century mark to start the day.

He looked a bit out of sorts yesterday, he certainly doesn't right now.

  11. Marathon frame 'took the gloss off' Allen masterclasspublished at 10:16 BST 2 May

    Joe Perry
Former World Championship semi-finalist on BBC Two

It took the gloss off what he achieved - two century breaks, the highest break of the tournament.

He was fantastic in all departments. His performance yesterday was brilliant.

  12. Postpublished at 10:16 BST 2 May

    Wu 7-7 Allen

Wu Yize is totally in control in the early stages of this frame but I've learned my lesson from yesterday and not calling it a formality as of yet.

The 22-year-old is cueing really well though and is closing in on the half-century break to kick things off.

  13. How easy will it be to move on from the 100-minute frame?published at 10:14 BST 2 May

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC Two

I think it'll be easy. Wu Yize, it helped him because at that point in the match he was gone.

He'd lost five frames in a row, he was missing blacks off the spot, he was a completely different player to the night before

At 7-7 he'll be delighted. If they had play the full quote of frames he probably would have been behind going into this morning's session.

  14. Postpublished at 10:12 BST 2 May

    Wu 7-7 Allen

Would you look at the time? It's time to get going again.

A huge round of applause from the audience at the Crucible Theatre as Mark Allen and Wu Yize make their way into the arena.

It's Wu to break first. Let's hope we're not waiting until lunchtime for Allen to break!

  15. Postpublished at 10:07 BST 2 May

    Wu 7-7 Allen

And this is how that remarkable frame was finally, finally brought to an end on Friday afternoon.

A huge roar from the Crucible crowd as Wu Yize delicately nestled a long pink into the pocket.

One hour and 40 minutes later, the record was smashed.

  16. Wu level with Allen after longest Crucible framepublished at 10:04 BST 2 May

    Wu 7-7 Allen

    Steve Sutcliffe
BBC Sport at the Crucible Theatre

Mark Allen and Wu Yize played out the longest frame in Crucible history during the second session of their World Championship semi-final.

A farcical 14th frame, in which eight reds were left covering the black over the bottom right corner pocket, lasted 100 minutes and 21 seconds.

It contributed to a shortened session that ended 7-7, featuring only six of the eight frames scheduled, and delayed the resumption of the other last-four match between John Higgins and Shaun Murphy.

The impasse that left the match without a ball being potted for 55 minutes - and eventually prompted referee Marcel Eckardt to warn the players - was ended when Allen fouled and nudged the black in.

That allowed Wu to pick up his only frame of the afternoon, albeit only after another 30 more minutes had elapsed.

"In a nutshell that frame is an embarrassment to snooker, and the referees' and the players' association need to try to work out a way so that never happens again," said six-time world champion and BBC pundit Steve Davis.

In response World Snooker ruled out making changes around re-racks - when a frame is restarted because of a stalemate - and said it felt that "the rule was applied correctly" by the referee.

  18. Jimmy's cakepublished at 09:59 BST 2 May

When Jimmy White turned 60, it was day two of the 2022 final.

He was spending his birthday in Sheffield, as usual, and behind-the-scenes bosses at the Crucible were keen to mark the landmark occasion in suitable style.

With so much happening, though, wires had become crossed somewhere along the line.

So rather than ordering one birthday cake, two were acquired for White.

At least this is the story that was relayed when Jimmy walked into the media room, shortly before Ronnie O'Sullivan clinched his seventh world title on the Monday evening, with a spare cake in a snooker table design.

He was donating it to the media - a fine gesture.

Written journalists, photographers and video teams tucked in, and the cake was very soon - in a Whirlwind - all gone.

Before we get into today's action, there's a special birthday to tell you about.

Jimmy White's birthday usually falls during the World Championship - and today marks the Whirlwind's 64th birthday.

At the peak of his powers, White had a love-hate relationship with the tournament: six finals and defeats in all six tells its own cruel story.

"He's beginning to annoy me," White famously said of Stephen Hendry after defeat in the 1994 final, which began on Jimmy's birthday.

That was his fourth defeat by Hendry in a Crucible final, and it was also White's last final at the Worlds.

Perhaps we should say most recent rather than last, because White fights on, still dreaming of the win that eluded him in his heyday.

He lost in round one of qualifying this year, on the outskirts of Sheffield at the English Institute of Sport, but has another year left on his tour wild card so should be back playing in the 2026-27 season.

White can still be spotted in and around the Crucible - working for television, doing his thing, simply being Jimmy White, a prized part of the furniture at snooker's greatest show.
