  1. Higgins regains the leadpublished at 15:44 BST 2 May

    Higgins 14-13 Murphy

Well it didn't have the flamboyance of the opening two frames but it certainly had a lot of intriguing snooker.

In what became a real gritty battle, Shaun Murphy misses a red but leaves it on the pocket for John Higgins to eventually pull out of sight.

    Murphy then concedes.

It wasn't pretty but Higgins won't care, he's back in front.

    Higgins 13-13 Murphy

An uncharacteristic foul from Shaun Murphy puts John Higgins 54 ahead with 51 remaining.

Higgins then sets a lovely snooker up and forces Murphy into another foul.

The Magician comes back to the table for now though and draws a foul of his own, again cutting the gap to what it started at.

An intriguing ending to this frame.

Hendry made a good point in commentary yesterday - Shaun’s A game is as good as anybody’s (possibly ever), but Higgins’ B game is a lot more secure than Shaun’s, as we’ve seen a lot in this match.

    Higgins 13-13 Murphy

John Higgins fails to capitalise and Shaun Murphy gets another chance.

Higgins gets away with it though as Murphy misses on a long red and sets 'The Wizard of Wishaw' up for his third chance at winning the frame.

    Third time lucky?

No, is the answer. Higgins leaves himself in a poor position on the table after a pot on the red and again has to settle for a safety shot.

It's all become a bit disjointed.

    Higgins 13-13 Murphy

John Higgins' break ends at 28 and he has to settle for a snooker. It's a good one though and Shaun Murphy hits the pink first in a bid to find a red.

Higgins is back on the table and well positioned to take this frame.

    Higgins 13-13 Murphy

    There it is!

John Higgins finds the pocket with a long red and it's a great shot. That certainly didn't look like a man that hadn't potted one in this session up to yet.

He follows that up with a blue and he's off.

  7. Postpublished at 15:16 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-13 Murphy

It certainly hasn't got the pace of the opening two frames with both players stuck in a safety shot battle as it stands.

Shaun Murphy has got two reds to his name, though.

John Higgins is still yet to find a pocket in this session.

I LOVE the way Shaun Murphy acknowledges the crowd when they cheer good shots....such a natural guy, not an untouchable star.

  9. Murphy moves level with Allen on nine centuriespublished at 15:08 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-13 Murphy

The century in that last frame from Shaun Murphy takes him on to nine for this year's World Championship, level atop of the leaderboard with fellow semi-finalist, Mark Allen.

Can he surpass him in this session?

On the evidence of those two first frames - I would say there is a strong possibility.

  10. Murphy levels proceedingspublished at 15:06 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-13 Murphy

Wow. He is on some form.

That's two frames and two century-plus breaks for 'The Magician'. A break of 127 that time.

There's nothing John Higgins can do at the moment but watch on. He is yet to pot a ball in this match.

This is the brutal nature of snooker as a sport: one player dominating and there's nothing that [Higgins] can do about it.

He just has to sit in his seat, try and keep focused, try and be ready if Shaun does make a mistake.

It's a lonely place at the moment for John Higgins in that corner of the Crucible.

Massive shot there from Shaun Murphy to keep his break going using the rest. That one should settle the frame, too.

"He's got a Rolls-Royce cue action," says Steve Davis on commentary.

  13. Postpublished at 14:59 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-12 Murphy

He's off again here, Shaun Murphy.

Up to a break of 44, a total score of 50 and going along really nicely.

John Higgins hasn't had much of a chance to get out of his seat as of yet.

Has John Higgins changed his break-off shot?

It looked like he played off the second red there, not that it worked as he pushed one over towards the right corner pocket.

It is such a wonderful innovative plant [to get the frame going].

To be able to spot that and then also have the courage to play it was magnificent. What a start to this semi-final.

  16. 'You just know it's a total clearance'published at 14:52 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-12 Murphy

    Steve Davis
Six-time world champion on BBC One

He couldn't have asked for a better start.

That's the third century in the last four frames of play - the standard really hotting up in this semi-final.

Shaun will have known full well he had to produce a big session here this afternoon and he's responding.

You just know it's a total clearance, don't you. Fantastic break by Shaun Murphy. What a great start to this session.

  17. Perfect start for Murphypublished at 14:50 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-12 Murphy

That is as good of a start as Shaun Murphy could have hoped for.

He takes the first frame of the session with a phenomenal break of 132.

Murphy hits a exhibition double on his way to the clearance, highlighting the confidence that was oozing through him during that frame.

What a start to the afternoon.

  18. Postpublished at 14:47 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-11 Murphy

A warning to someone in the crowd from the referee for a ringing phone midway through Shaun Murphy's break there.

He's up to 82 as it stands and fortunately for him, the phone call hasn't knocked him off his stride.

  19. Postpublished at 14:42 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-11 Murphy

Shaun Murphy gets the frame going with a cheeky three-ball plant on the reds.

He'll need to deal with a group in the middle at some point but he's got a good few lined up for now to get a good break going and put the pressure on John Higgins early.

  20. 'Incredible' - Hendry amazed by Higgins' longevitypublished at 14:41 BST 2 May

    Higgins 13-11 Murphy

    Stephen Hendry
Seven-time world champion on BBC One

    It's unbelievable. He's a freak.

I don't know how he keeps doing it. Seriously.

Whenever you think you can write John off, he comes back stronger.

Incredible. That match against Ronnie O'Sullivan, and every match he's got better the longer the match goes on.

You'd think at 50 it would be the opposite, but he gets better the more pressure that's on him.
