    Toulon 13-13 Bath

The pitch at Stade Mayol is cutting up quite a lot, especially in the areas where scrums and rucks are taking place.

That sort of surface will sap the energy in the legs as the match wears on.

  2. Penalty: Toulon 13-13 Bathpublished at 15:41 GMT 14 December 2025

    Mateo Garcia

Nika Amashukeli rules that Sam Underhill is off his feet with his hands on the ball at the breakdown.

Mateo Garcia kicks another three points - all square.

  3. try

Converted try: Toulon 10-13 Bathpublished at 22 mins

    Ted Hill (con: Russell)

Georgian referee Nika Amashukeli is a busy man early on - he signals another penalty to Bath inside Toulon's 22.

Finn Russell elects to kick to the corner and the visitors are halted illegally.

Another penalty, tapped, the forwards try to drive it on... and they get over! Ted Hill scores for Bath!

Russell's conversion is good too and the Prem champions are back in front.

  4. Penalty: Toulon 10-6 Bathpublished at 15:35 GMT 14 December 2025

    Mateo Garcia

Another ruck infringement this time goes against Bath and Mateo Garcia kicks three points for Toulon.

They lead by four at the midway point of the first half.

  5. Penalty: Toulon 7-6 Bathpublished at 15:32 GMT 14 December 2025

    Finn Russell

Bath reduce their deficit almost immediately from the kick-off, with Finn Russell kicking a penalty from a identical position to his earlier three-pointer.

  6. try

Converted try: Toulon 7-3 Bathpublished at 14 mins

    Brian Alainu'uese (con: Garcia)

Oof, the rugby equivalent of a clearance off the goal line saves Bath from conceding a try.

Finn Russell doesn't quite gather a kick forward cleanly and, with Toulon waiting to pounce, Joe Cokanasiga boots the ball over the sideline.

From the resulting line-out, Brian Alainu'uese powers over to put the French side in front for the first time.

    Ollie Sleightholme (con: Smith)

Saints lead at home against the Bulls with Ollie Sleightholme the man with the try.

Smith conversion has been written a lot already today (thanks to Marcus) but this one is a successful kick from Fin.

    Toulon 0-3 Bath

After an astonishingly successful 2024-25 season domestically and in the Challenge Cup, I'm sure all involved with Bath will want to take the next step and seriously compete for the biggest prize in Europe.

If they can get results on days like today, it will go a long way to putting them up there among the strongest favourites for this season's Champions Cup.

  9. Penalty: Toulon 0-3 Bathpublished at 15:25 GMT 14 December 2025

    Finn Russell

Toulon are penalised at the breakdown and, bang in front of the posts, Finn Russell takes the opportunity to get Bath on the scoreboard.

    Toulon 0-0 Bath

Lots of contestable kicks in the early stages between Toulon and Bath.

After Bath win one in midfield, Henry Arundell gets up a head of steam and takes his side into Toulon's 22.

Huge noise coming from inside the Toulon dressing room before the two teams enter the field at Stade Felix Mayol.

  15. Familiar faces in Toulon line-uppublished at 15:07 GMT 14 December 2025

    Toulon v Bath (15:15 GMT)

There are a few former Prem players in the Toulon side, who are looking to bounce back from last weekend's surprise loss to Edinburgh.

Among them is ex-Bath number eight Zach Mercer, who comes up against his old club today.

England internationals Lewis Ludlam and Kyle Sinckler are in the forward pack, while Scotland scrum-half Ben White is on the bench.

  16. Bath without injured England prop Stuartpublished at 15:04 GMT 14 December 2025

    Toulon v Bath (15:15 GMT)

One downside for Bath from an impressive opening victory against Munster was the news that England prop Will Stuart faces a long spell out of the game after sustaining a ruptured Achilles tendon.

But Bath do have Argentina international Santi Carreras back at full-back, as part of an exciting back division that will take on Toulon.

Scotland's Finn Russell captains the side at fly-half, with Henry Arundell and Joe Cokanasiga on the wings and Cam Redpath and Max Ojomoh continuing in the centres.

    FT: Harlequins 68-14 Bayonne

Harlequins fly-half Marcus Smith speaking to Premier Sports:

"It’s obviously nice to come back home after that shift last week where the lads played with a lot of guts.

"We’re making strides and we talked about getting back here in front of our friends and family and putting on a show. We’ve got to keep building and working hard and that will give us a lot of confidence.

"It’s nice to get our attacking game back on the park. It was a bit tetchy at the start and not as accurate as we’d like but… 68 points today with lots of attacking shape that was nice.

"It’s back to the Prem now and we need to build on that performance."

We've started today with two pretty one-sided matches.

Next up, Prem champions Bath take on French giants Toulon, while last season's Champions Cup runners-up Northampton host South African side Bulls.

Those games kick-off in about 15 minutes.

  19. Full-time Castres 33-0 Edinburghpublished at 14:55 GMT 14 December 2025

A bonus point win for Castres, and a heavy loss for Edinburgh after their shock victory over Toulon last week.

With the score only 5-0 at half-time, Sean Everitt's side gave themselves a decent shot. However, Castres showed their class in the second-half and soon started racking up the points.

In fact, Edinburgh barely got out of their own half in the second 40 minutes. A bruising game, but they'll have to pick themselves up quickly for the 1872 Cup double header.

    Harlequins 68-14 Bayonne

Harlequins had to win today after defeat last week and they've done it in some style, racking up 10 tries against a rotated Bayonne team that ran out of gas.

Marcus Smith orchestrated things very well from fly-half, scored nine conversions, and has been named man-of-the-match.

All in all a very good day at the office for Quins.
