Oh, that was lucky!
Rublev sets himself up for a huge forehand down the line, with Norrie nowhere in sight, and he ends up skewing it out.
Deuce.

Trouble...
Norrie sends a backhand over the tramlines and it's going to give Rublev a look at an early break point.

Dennis Ethan: Quality set this, plenty of outrageous winners
*Norrie 4-6 0-0 Rublev
That's the first set Cam Norrie has dropped in New York this week.
He'll serve to start the second.

Absolutely Rublev needed to get that first set. You do not want to go a set down against Norrie in tough, hot conditions.
He was the better player. Surprisingly Norrie hit twice as many unforced errors as Rublev.

Down the T goes Andrey Rublev, and the first set is his!
Norrie 4-5 Rublev*
Rublev double faults and instantly raises his hand in annoyance - there was a call from the crowd between his first and second serve that looked to have distracted him.
He's not distracted for long, though, going big with an ace out wide and he brings up two set points as Norrie larrups a second serve return into the net.

What a time for Cam Norrie to lose his way.
He had only lost four points on serve up to that point.
The Brit tears off his moist shirt - not quite Incredible Hulk style - as walks away from the baseline and back to his chair.
Norrie 4-5 Rublev*
That's an excellent way to start as Rublev cracks down a huge ace first up.
Oh, and then Norrie produces a belter of a winner off a slower second serve to keep things interesting!
15-15.

I wonder if Cam is trying to gain extra depth because Rublev has been so aggressive for the last game and a half, and that hard work has begun to pay off.

Image source, BBC SportNew York can be hot and sticky at this time of year.
You know the type of weather we're talking about.
Where the back of your shirt is glued to perspiration and bare thighs have to be peeled off plastic seats.
After cooling off a little earlier this week, the muggy weather is back. Temperatures won't be much more than 26C today, but the humidity is set to be about 70% - with anything over 50% considered oppressive.
The good news is Norrie, who learned his craft as a college player in Texas, can cope with it.

That's a bad game by Norrie, ended by a tired backhand into the net, and Rublev will serve to take the first set very shortly.
*Norrie 4-4 Rublev
Just a slight opening, here, for Rublev, as a long Norrie backhands helps him to a 15-30 lead.
And again! That'll be two break points to Rublev.

The problem for Rublev is Norrie is ready to go again. Rublev, after that 35 shot rally, was gulping air and trying to get oxygen into his lungs. Meanwhile Cam is bouncing, feet squeaking at the other end.
*Norrie 4-4 Rublev
A miss from Norrie, flapping a forehand into the net, and a rather weary looking Rublev puffs out his cheeks as he goes over to his towel.
Wallop. Ace out wide from Rublev, and we're staying on serve.

If you view Rublev as a simmering volcano, Norrie is like a calm lake. A lake against a volcano. Who wins?
Norrie 4-3 Rublev*
A terrific 35-shot rally, both players having to switch from defence and offence at various points, and it's Rublev who eventually steps in and swings a cracker of a backhand down the line to take the point.
Ooft. Norrie produces a terrific return from out wide to beat a sliding Rublev and keep himself in this game at 40-30.
Hello! That's a lovely redirection from Norrie, producing a clean winner off the forehand to force deuce.

And Neal Skupski (above, right) and Dutchman Wesley Koolhof face another Australian pairing, Matthew Ebden and Max Purcell, who won the Wimbledon title in July.
Right now on court 5 Marcelo Demoliner of Italy and Joao Sousa of Portugal have just started their match with Italian pair Lorenzo Sonego and Andrea Vavassori.
Norrie 4-3 Rublev*
Noririe races out to 40-0 before Rublev moves forward and smashes his way onto the board.
Both players up the pace a little in the next rally and it's Rublev who blinks first. Norrie, walking to his chair, decides he wants to regrip his racquet.

Paire and Rune annoyed everyone watching against Norrie, but Norrie was unfazed. Nothing winds up Norrie, but we have already had a roar of frustration from Rublev.
It must take the energy away, but Rublev is able to compete on the next point. But his gear from point one is full throttle. He either wins like that or just blows up.
To beat Norrie, he will have to blitz him with his forehands - but I just don't think he can hit through him.
