It's been 15 minutes since someone last hit a tennis ball, by the way.

"Heads Will Roll," we hear New York post-punk revivalists Yeah Yeah Yeahs sing over the sound system.

That's what Norrie and Rublev might be demanding after this bungle.

    Norrie 4-6 3-4 Rublev*

Rublev is still pointing at bits of the court, asking the ball kids to put in a bit of extra mopping to make sure it's as dry as possible.

Norrie, meanwhile, hasn't budged from his chair.

Rublev gets to his feet and wanders around on the baseline.

Perhaps he's trying to hurry the ball kids along.

He looks like a parent sternly inspecting the work of a teenager being given a chore for bad behaviour.

Almost 15 minutes now since the last point. This break would have been avoided had the roof simply been shut in the first place.

The leaf blower is back to dry the court!

The ball kids are doing the mopping, ably assisted by Andrey Rublev every now and again.

At tournaments, you hear players saying I'd rather they just cancelled it and we doubled up rather than the organisers doing stop-start.

One of the worst was at the Australian Open qualifying and I was on early - and they kept us there. It makes it tricky to gauge what and where to eat.

But the courts are really wet now, especially on Ashe.

  7. Rain delay on Arthur Ashe Stadiumpublished at 17:33 BST 5 September 2022

    Pegula 1-1 Kvitova*

As you'd expect, there is also a delay on Arthur Ashe Stadium to get the roof closed.

It had been an intriguing start to this last-16 encounter with Petra Kvitova immediately breaking Jessica Pegula back.

    Now the roof IS closing.

The match referee has a word with both players and points skywards.

The cogs of motorised steel are finally whirring.

And a whole sauna's worth of plain white towels are back out.

The poor ball kids are going to have to go and mop the court with a load of towels after all that faffing around.

  10. 'Curious to see if Rublev can keep this up'published at 17:28 BST 5 September 2022

I think Rublev was in a bit of a purple patch but I think Norrie was figuring out how to stop getting the ball onto that forehand side.

I am just curious to see whether Rublev can keep this up when he sees the finish line - will he be as brave as he is now?

Some tennis players have to work their way up from testing backgrounds where money is tight and go on to ammass life-changing wealth.

Jessica Pegula, who is under way against Petra Kvitova on Arthur Ashe Stadium, is different.

The American number one is the daughter of Terry Pegula, an oil and gas magnate who, according to Forbes, external, is worth $6.7bn (£5.82bn).

She has been speaking to BBC Sport and told us: "I have never wanted people to think I was given things.

"I think I have definitely earned my stripes in the tennis world."

Pegula has had to overcome her own version of adversity - get to know more of her story here.

  13. Norrie holdspublished at 17:26 BST 5 September 2022

    Norrie 4-6 3-4 Rublev*

Norrie watches a serve get absolutely mullered back past him by Rublev, though the Brit composes himself nicely to put away a rare forehand winner for 40-15.

A nice serve down the T wraps up a hold for Norrie.

Rublev, who was particularly keen to carry on, promptly batters through a hold to 15.

While we still wait for the roof to be closed - come on guys, someone press the button - an official comes on to court to dry the surface with what looks like a leaf blower.

Maybe it's a multi-functional piece of autumnal kit.

    Oh, we're carrying on regardless.

Not sure what's going on. Spots of rain are still dropping and the sky looks menacing.

    Norrie 4-6 2-3 Rublev*

Norrie is suspiciously rubbing his foot along the lines but, yep, we're going to carry on.

There's a massive cloud right above the stadium, for weather watch fans.

I mean, there's not even half a sign of the roof shutting, and I think we're going to carry on...

    "IT'S SPITTING!"

That's my best Peter Kay impression.

The brollies were out earlier to stop UV hitting bonces. Now they have been pinged to protect from the precipitation.

With Rublev having scarpered, Norrie sits on his chair for any extra moment or two as we wait to see what's happening.

Then we're told there will be a small delay because the roof is being closed.

Look at that cloud. I haven't seen an angrier cloud, and it is right over the stadium.

Surely everyone can see the rain.
