Jessica Pegula swings down some very good serves and sticks in the rallies long enough to see some unforced errors come flying off Iga Swiatek's racquet as she holds to 15.

Annabel Croft has been speaking about French Open tournament director Amelie Mauresmo's comments regarding the male-dominated night sessions at Roland Garros...
I understand it. I would not want to be in her position. I thought it was an incredibly honest interview and she gave her reasons. Would you honestly take off Rafael Nadal against Novak Djokovic last night and put a women's match on?
I would hate to be making that draw. There is always the argument you put the players out there to give them that platform and build them up.
We just watched a fabulous match here [Daria Kasatkina beats Veronika Kudermetova] and hardly anyone was watching it. If this had been Nadal against Djokovic it would probably be packed. There is a natural demand and that is what it is. You can't force it.
If Serena Williams was here she has earned that right to be the big draw, she puts bums on seats. It's hard to put a finger on what creates that star quality that attracts people to you. You can't just pretend that it's there. If I was trying to sell tickets, as they are here, they are presumably trying to put the best on show.
There have been periods when the women's game is more interesting than the men's, that was naturally the way it was, but I have to say the women's game has had a bit of a dip lately. It is a star-quality thing that you can't quite put your finger on.
Swiatek 2-2 Pegula*
A wild forehand from Iga Swiatek is flailed out of bounds before three very good, accurate serves close out a quick game.

The pressure on Swiatek is having its impact. It really is her tournament to lose, she's won everything and at some stage it has to catch up with her.
I think she needs to go back to free hitting and put some music in her head.

Pegula is doing a good job of making this competitive early on.
She is showing that her hard court game, with some patience, is paying off. She's a little like Emma Raducanu in that she is learning clay court tennis on the job.
I'm impressed with her start and perseverance.
*Swiatek 1-2 Pegula
Great defence from Pegula again, and it's Swiatek who is swishing her racquet in frustration as she nets once again.
There's a small shout of "c'mon!" from Pegula as she watches Swiatek net to wrap up a very, very good hold.
Swiatek 1-1 Pegula*
A great shot from Pegula wrongfoots Swiatek, who nets and then makes the American wait while she walks to her towel.
That's a better forehand from Swiatek, however, to keep the game going.
Swiatek 1-1 Pegula*
It's a real mix of very good and very average shotmaking from Iga Swiatek so far.
Jessie Pegula, meanwhile, is serving very well. Another one-two punch takes her to game point, before she throws her head back as a big forehand sails over the tramlines.
Swiatek 1-1 Pegula*
Unforced error number five comes flying off Swiatek's racquet before she's finally able to dart forward and get underneath a Pegula drop shot.
Swiatek goes down the line with a winner that's bound to make her feel better and lets rip on a return of serve to force deuce.

Initially there was no hint that Iga Swiatek stayed up too late last night watching Nadal's win over Djokovic.
Tiredness hazes the mind and she was sharp as a razor in the opening exchanges.
Until the latter part of that second game, that is. Maybe someone should order her an espresso a la Serena.

Swiatek looked round and flailed her arms about.
I think she is a little more doubtful after that last match. There's a little more vulnerability there.
Swiatek 1-1 Pegula*
Well then!
Swiatek slaps an irritated-looking forehand into the net tape and we're back on serve.
There were four unforced errors in a row from Swiatek to end that game.
*Swiatek 1-0 Pegula
Swiatek thwacks her thigh in frustration as another backhand finds the foot of the net.
Here's a break point to Pegula.
*Swiatek 1-0 Pegula
Iga Swiatek makes a bit of a mess of a smash at the net and still manages to land it smack on the baseline. When you're on fire, those sort of shots tend to land in the right place.
Swiatek races to three game points before a second serve is hammered beyond her by Jessica Pegula.
Huh. From 40-15, Swiatek coughs up two errors to find herself at deuce.

Pegula has a hefty ball strike. There is a good thump to her stroke and it looks easy.
She's the sort of player who makes you want to pick up a racquet and have a go at what she's doing, but it can be very one-pace.
*Swiatek 1-0 Pegula
Some outstanding defensive work from Jessica Pegula but Iga Swiatek is so, so strong off her forehand wing.
She smacks a winner past Pegula and claims an early break.
Swiatek 0-0 Pegula*
It's another break point to Iga Swiatek, though, as Jessica Pegula works another backhand long.
Swiatek 0-0 Pegula*
Nice.
A one-two counter-punch from Iga Swiatek, and we're at deuce.
Swiatek 0-0 Pegula*
Shot.
Iga Swiatek angles a forehand winner with the utmost ease to earn herself an early break point.
