Pegula did such a good job to stay with Swiatek. She is going to mention the time being taken by Swiatek.

She is really not happy. I do think she is being held up a lot and she might have something to say about that double-bounce point that broke her serve too.

Splendid day of sunshine at Roland Garros today.

Not quite ice towel weather but those fair-skinned folks milling about the grounds might want to slap on some factor 30.

Makes a change to Swiatek’s past two matches on Chatrier.

During both of those, the Polish player had to grab a tracky top out of the bag.

Bit like when you’re walking in the Peak District, always take a jacket. Just. In. Case.

Doubt there are any cheese and coleslaw sarnies in there, though.

    Swiatek 6-3 Pegula

Iga Swiatek won five of the final six games to close out that set.

It's been scrappy in places, and Jessica Pegula played very well for the majority of that set, but it does feel as though Swiatek has simply forgotten how to lose.

Win number 33 is just one set away

That's a miss on the backhand from Jessica Pegula, though, and it's going to give Iga Swiatek another set point.

She shouts "sorry" over to Pegula as she has to spend a few seconds getting something out of her eye with the towel.

    Swiatek 5-3 Pegula*

    Oh, Iga!

The world number one gets a look at a second serve from Jessie Pegula and ends up larruping her backhand long. Both Swiatek and her coach can't believe she's missed that.

It is a bit of a shame that this first set will be decided on a shot that shouldn't have counted.

I don't blame the umpire but it's a shame they can't have another look.

Pegula does look a bit fed up of everything going against her.

  10. Deuce on Pegula servepublished at 14:23 BST 1 June 2022

    Swiatek 5-3 Pegula*

Jessica Pegula gets out to a 30-0 lead, before Iga Swiatek reels her back in with a scrabble to the net.

Pegula gets herself to game point before Swiatek slams a return back at her. Deuce.

I hate to say it but we've just seen the replay of that drop shot [from Swiatek to break serve] - and it was a double bounce. And Swiatek was given the point.

They've just shot themselves in the foot there because that was shown in the stadium.

Jessica Pegula drops her racquet in annoyance as a loose forehand sees Iga Swiatek hold.

Pegula will have to serve to stay in the set.

    *Swiatek 4-3 Pegula

Jessica Pegula is furious as she lets Iga Swiatek wriggle into the lead with an easy error.

The American hits her thigh, resets and then smashes a gorgeous forehand cross-court to go back to deuce. Lovely stuff.

  14. Deuce on Swiatek servepublished at 14:17 BST 1 June 2022

    *Swiatek 4-3 Pegula

This is much more like it from Iga Swiatek. Her shoes squeak as she tippy-taps forward and hammers away a forehand to start her service game.

Pegula steps in and sends a short return from Swiatek swinging away to keep pushing Swiatek at 30-30 and some more brilliant defensive work from Pegula forces deuce.

Swiatek is so difficult to stop when she gets a forehand - there is not only pace on it but it really rears up.

How does she get to these shots, and still be able to control it? Incredible.

    *Swiatek 4-3 Pegula

    Oh!

Jessica Pegula sends over a lovely drop that Iga Swiatek goes charging towards. The Pole somehow manages to get to the ball before it bounces twice and flick over a winner that a stretching Pegula cannot reach.

Swiatek breaks - and in some style.

A tremendous rally sees both players angling the ball every which way, before Swiatek eventually slides across and sends a short backhand winner over.

Nice. An ace wraps up a love hold for the world number one.
