Apologies for that one but we couldn't resist. Ben Stiller is another of the celebs in the house.

Djokovic is serving to stay in the set here and a backhand error leaves us at 30-30. Nervy moments for the Serb.

Well played, Dylan Alcott! The Aussie, another of the wheelchair winners to have just arrived in the stand, has just tipped a can of something alcoholic (I think) into his trophy and downed it in one!

The crowd love it. He then puts the trophy upside down on his head.

Back on court it's a similar pattern as before - an easy Medvedev hold.

    Djokovic 3-4 Medvedev*

A Djokovic volley can often be as rare as a British Slam champion - we can't use that one anymore can we?! - but he's into the net twice here. One is a good volley, one is... errrmm... not.

The wheelchair tournament winners, including Britons Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett, have just arrived onto court and have been announced to the crowd.

    Djokovic holds.

Medvedev is one of the more uncomfortable players at the net - he could have hit that first volley away easily but tried to blast it through the middle.

He did the same with the second but it just bounced too high for Djokovic to get a racquet on it.

Daniil Medvedev isn't showing a flicker of emotion here. It's big serve, turn to collect a ball, walk to the baseline, repeat.

Djokovic gets a smash back, much to the delight of the New York crowd, but Medvedev hits the second even harder. There's no retrieving that.

Another game in the bag for the Russian.

Hmm what a start by Medvedev....or is this Novak Djokovic up to his rope a dope tactics again I wonder?

    Gay Darke

Hasn't Djokovic dropped his first set and gone onto win in his last consecutive 336 matches? What's the hysteria about?!

    Djokovic 2-3 Medvedev*

You didn't think Djokovic would struggle for long, did you? He rattles off this service game with far more ease, sealing the game with an ace down the T.

Still, Medvedev will be the happier as the players take a seat for the first time.

Medvedev is having no such difficulties with his serve. Four big 'uns are cracked down and Novak is on the stretch. It's a second easy hold for the Russian seeking his first Grand Slam and the biggest of party poops.

"Come on" Djokovic says to himself after saving the second of those break points. The great man grinds into rhythm and normality is restored.

Early days but Djokovic is struggling! A forehand error follows a double fault and here are two more break points for Medvedev. The crowd sounds as though it can't quite believe it.

  14. 'Medvedev likes to be the villain'published at 21:28 BST 12 September 2021

    Djokovic v Medvedev

    Laura Robson
Former British number one on BBC Radio 5 Live

I almost think having the crowd against him might help Medvedev - he likes to be the villain out there and that's when he gets the most fired up.

He's better when he's playing someone better than him and he knows he needs to raise his level.

    *Djokovic 0-2 Medvedev

There are gasps from the stands as Medvedev fires down the second of two accurate aces in his first service game. The first was a huge second serve which feels like a planned stamp of authority.

"I'm here to dance, Novak, are you?"

    It's an easy hold.

    Djokovic 0-1 Medvedev*

    Well, well!

Djokovic looked set for the perfect start as he raced to 40-15 but a few loose shots followed and Medvedev breaks.

The crowd is quiet now, reflecting the tension of the situation.

Djokovic finds the line once with a forehand but can't repeat the trick a shot later. That has drifted wide.

It's an early break point for Medvedev.

    *Djokovic 0-0 Medvedev

The crowd do certainly seem to be with Djokovic early on and who can blame them? They want to be able to say 'I was there'.

From 40-15 Medvedev finds his range to take us to deuce.

    Here's another chant of "No-le!"

  20. 'Novak's fitness is superhuman'published at 21:19 BST 12 September 2021

    Djokovic v Medvedev

    Gigi Salmon
BBC Radio 5 Live tennis commentator

I think Djokovic's level of fitness is superhuman and no matter how much time he spends on court in the semis and the quarters, when he gets to the final, he just finds something deep within him, he finds a reserve because he's such a competitor, he finds a way to tough it out.
