Djokovic is on the board at least in this set. Medvedev looked to be conserving energy there in truth.
Djokovic has a minute or so to come up with the plan of his life at the changeover.

It's so strange not to see Djokovic not running balls down.

Not even a hint of nerves from Medvedev who arrows a backhand into the corner. Djokovic would usually return that was interest but it's just pushed back.
Two games to go for the Russian.

Look at this scoreboard in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

Novak Djokovic hands it to Medvedev on a platter with another error.
Even he can't come back from here, can he?
*Djokovic 4-6 4-6 0-2 Medvedev
Here we go. Medvedev can't miss. Djokovic can't hit. The Serb is disintegrating before our eyes in this final.
Break point Medvedev.

If you were a coach, you'd just want to go down there and shake him up a bit.

This could be the title right here. Two more Djokovic errors. The shoulders slump.
0-30.

It's the way he's missing that is so unlike him - we are so used to seeing perfection from Djokovic.
A backhand volley he just missed was metres out and you can tell from the contact point when he hits it that it's just not there.
*Djokovic 4-6 4-6 0-2 Medvedev
I know we have said this a lot in this tournament but I can hardly believe what I am watching.
Djokovic gets his chances but puts a volley and then a sitter of a forehand out with the court at his mercy. A club player would be annoyed to miss that.
Who is this and what have you done with Novak Djokovic?

Ashic: Medvedev making Djokovic look like a qualifier (and not a qualifier like Emma Raducanu). Incredible tennis.

Bhargav: Usually, I don’t give up on Djokovic even if he is 0-2 down. Today, it is really going to take something monumental for him to come back now.
Thomas: That final point in set two sums up Novak Djokovic’s day. Another poor unforced error that looked very tired. The movement isn’t there today. It’ll now take a miracle for Novak to create history today.
Djokovic 4-6 4-6 0-1 Medvedev*
All Medvedev has to do is hold serve for the rest of this set - as he has done all night - and the title is his.
Djokovic needs something. He's at 30-30 on the Medvedev serve. Is this his chance?

This is not what I was expecting at all. I thought we would be here for hours and hours going deep into the fifth set.
