But I just feel a bit bad for Djokovic that he wasn't able to perform the way we thought he might today – and the way perhaps he thought he might.

We are so used to him winning these Grand Slam finals over and over again but he just had nothing left in the tank, nothing left to give.

There was that lovely moment towards the end when the crowd supported him like that and gave him all the credit that he's been asking for.

There was so much pressure on him – we think he’s superhuman and we expect him to make history time and time again but it just goes to show that it is so, so tough out there.

We can talk about Djokovic and his performamce all day but you can't take anything away from Daniil Medvedev.

He played a flawless couple of games to start off the match and just never looked back.

He went for his shots, he went for his serve in particular - he was serving absolute bombs throughout.

Maybe he was a bit flustered towards the end when he served a few double faults and he was gesturing over to his box like he didn't really know how to celebrate!

Djokovic is sat staring into the stands expressionless. Was it nerves? Was it fatigue? Maybe both.

  7. 'Medvedev's moment - and he deserves it'published at 23:37 BST 12 September 2021

This is Daniil Medvedev's moment and he deserves it - he came so close to beating Rafa Nadal in the final from two sets and a break down two years ago.

His name is up in lights on the Arthur Ashe Stadium - he is a Grand Slam champion at the age of 25.

There were tears in his eyes while the match was still going but there is no real emotion from Djokovic at the finish. He shakes hands, has a word with Medvedev and heads to his chair.

It's a standing ovation inside the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

So many times in the past Novak Djokovic has heard and seen this for Roger Federer - but tonight it is for him as he tries to do what no man has done for 52 years and win all four Grand Slam titles in the same calendar year.
