    Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 Cirstea

Sorana Cirstea is making Victoria Azarenka work for this.

The Romanian has a chance to break back in a set that looked destined to be heading the two-time Grand Slam champion's way, but Azarenka fights back to fend that threat off and then comes through to take the second set.

It's all square. And a right treat of a tussle for the Court One crowd.

  2. Kyrgios in controlpublished at 18:47 BST 1 July 2021

It's two sets to the good now for Nick Kyrgios, the Aussie taking the second 6-4 against Italian Gianluca Mager.

Taylor Fritz has seen off fellow American Steve Johnson - 6-4 in the fifth - and will now play fourth seed Alexander Zverev.

The magnificently named Benjamin Bonzi has levelled it up at one set all against Marin Clic - the winner of that will face Daniil Medvedev.

And Felix Auger-Aliassime has taken the first set 6-4 against Swede Mikael Ymer.

Gasquet flicks a short-range drop shot wide and then pulls one wide the other side and that's a break point for Federer. This could be the beginning of the end if Federer takes it...

    Clarke/Copil 3-6 6-3 Daniell/Oswald

Plenty of British interest in the men's doubles this year.

Jay Clarke and his Romanian partner Marius Copil have just taken their first-round match into a deciding set.

They trailed New Zealand's Marcus Daniell and Austria's Philipp Oswald by a set but have now levelled things up on court four.

Two months ago, Emma Raducanu was sitting her A-Levels. Now, she’s playing at Wimbledon.

She’s the only female Briton left in the singles draw, and she’s taking on 2019 French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova on court 12.

Gasquet does brilliantly to chase down a shot and sends it around the net post, but Federer is able to send one into the open court.

However, Gasquet does get the hold.

    Federer 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 1-1 Gasquet*

Gasquet is already showing signs of looking a defeated man. There's very little effort coming from him at the end of the next game as Federer seals a routine volley to level it at 1-1.

    *Federer 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 0-1 Gasquet

How does Gasquet get back into this? He holds his serve at the start of the third, but Federer is looking unstoppable today.

  10. 'Took it to another level'published at 18:36 BST 1 July 2021

    Federer 7-6 6-1 Gasquet

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

Roger really took it to another level in that second set. He stayed aggressive but he had the winners on his side.

The difference in the second set to the first is that Roger was the aggressor - he was dominating the rallies, he took chances and there were few unforced errors.

So Gasquet has to raise his game now to counter-punch that.

Victoria Azarenka is motoring now after that early break of serve in the second set.

Some brilliant tennis being played over on Court One, Sorana Cirstea flinging a delightful backhand winner down the line right on cue.

Gasquet had the break on his racquet, but sends the forehand too long. Deuce.

That Tennis Vegan: This is a completely different Roger Federer than the one we saw vs Adrian Mannarino and first half of the first set in this match. Playing himself into the tournament. I love it.

  18. 'He believes he has one more major in him'published at 18:25 BST 1 July 2021

    Federer 7-6 5-0 Gasquet

    Boris Becker
Three-time Wimbledon champion on BBC TV

He’s not here just to win a match or two – in his heart of hearts, he still believes he has one more major in him.

I think his best chance is at Wimbledon because of the grass court and his history here. And he’s looking good now.

The first 30 minutes, he was off guard, a lot of unforced errors but the last 20-25 minutes he’s playing well again, against Gasquet, who is playing well too.

He knows, a couple more matches, he will be at his best soon – he’s the most natural grass-court player left in the draw.

  20. Skupskis win 'Battle of Brits'published at 18:24 BST 1 July 2021

Amid the Federer/Gasquet drama, the Skupski brothers, Ken and Neal, have won the first all-British men's doubles battle of the day.

They have seen off Liam Broady and Ryan Peniston in straight sets to set up a meeting with fourth seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos.

There is one more all-British men's doubles match later as Stuart Parker and James Ward meet Luke Bambridge and Dom Inglot.
