  3. 'I tried to play on my terms'published at 19:36 BST 1 July 2021

    Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 4-6 Cirstea

Some words from Sorana Cirstea: "I have to say, I am professional since I was 16 years old but this has been the best atmosphere I have been on a court.

"Today it was the best match of the year for me, the first time I win against Victoria, she is an unbelievable player and very uncomfortable to pay against - when I saw the draw I wasn't really smiling. I tried to play aggressive and on my terms and it worked.

"The people today helped me so much and I don't think I have ever enjoyed a match like this!"

I think a few nerves may be creeping in for Emma Raducanu now.

She keeps having to recompose herself on serve and pump herself up.

    Deep breath.

    Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 4-6 Cirstea

Victoria Azarenka come forward to save the first. Surely she can't save two more?!

Not this time! Sorana Cirstea finds great depth in her returns and Azarenka pulls a backhand wide.

The world number 45 knocks out the 12h seed! What a match.

    *Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 4-5 Cirstea

Oh no. It's almost painful to watch the struggles Victoria Azarenka is going through with her serve, the 31-year-old really has the yips and makes her ninth double fault of the match.

When she does get it in, Sorana Cirstea is retrieving remarkably at the other end. The Romanian has three more match points!

Done and dusted for the day on Centre.

    Net dismantled and baselines swept.

An early finish compared to the drama of last night, with today’s play ending over three hours before Murray called it a night.

Sure the ticket holders won’t be complaining after what they’ve seen today. It might even be a blessing if they are able to get a dinner table in Wimbledon Village this evening.

  8. Azarenka saves two match pointspublished at 19:29 BST 1 July 2021

    *Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 4-5 Cirstea

Brilliant from Sorana Cirstea, calm and composed under pressure on Court One. And now she has two match points...

Victoria Azarenka saves the first in another remarkable rally, the 12th seed's mishit dropping just inside the chalk to tee her up for a winning backhand, and Cirstea then thunders into the tape from behind the baseline!

The Romanian goes long, and from two match points down Azarenka has a chance to break back - and does! Wow, just wow.

  9. Clarke and Copil exit doublespublished at 19:27 BST 1 July 2021

    Clarke/Copil 3-6 6-3 3-6 Daniell/Oswald

It's been an up and down day in the doubles draws for British players - but more down than up, sadly.

Jay Clarke is the latest Brit to exit at the first hurdle - he and Romanian partner Marius Copil have lost in three sets to 15th seeds Marcus Daniell and Philipp Oswald on court four.

Vondrousova has been growing really frustrated, but she’s just broken Raducanu for the first time.

The Czech let’s out a big scream. Looks like that feels better now.

First signs of frailty on Raducanu's serve, and she has been serving so well so far.

Just a little look up to Nigel Sears there.

  12. Cirstea serving for the matchpublished at 19:25 BST 1 July 2021

    Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 3-5 Cirstea*

Uh oh. Victoria Azarenka's serve seems to have deserted her as she throws down two double faults in a row - on the latter the ball is called out on a second serve but corrected in the air, Sorana Cirstea challenges and it is long after all.

That brings up three break points, but the Romanian only needs one! From 3-1 down early in the decider, she's now serving for the match...

  13. 'A difficult year and a half'published at 19:21 BST 1 July 2021

    Federer 7-6 6-1 6-4 Gasquet

More from Roger Federer on BBC Two: "It's not the most important to feel your absolute best in the first and second round but what you really don't want to do is go out because then you really have to look at everything and question yourself.

"I'm in the third round, I'm really happy with my level right now. Today was special and I'm very happy with that.

"It's been a difficult year and a half in many ways for me with the knee surgery and rehab and everything - the initial goal was to come back for Wimbledon last year and that was never going to happen.

"This year it's nice that I've made it. I tried everything I could these last few weeks and months."

  14. 'I got on a roll after first set'published at 19:19 BST 1 July 2021

    Federer 7-6 6-1 6-4 Gasquet

Roger Federer on BBC Two: "I know Richard really well, we've played so many times against each other. It's always a pleasure playing against him - he's got the most wonderful backhand and after he ripped that down the line, I thought maybe if I could just do something similar I would be happy with it.

"And I got on a roll after that, so I'm happy he inspired me with that.

"But it was a wonderful match, I'm happy with my performance. A tough first set, I was happy with the second set and I was better in the third, so I'm very, very happy."

  15. Cirstea breaks backpublished at 19:17 BST 1 July 2021

    Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 3-3 Cirstea*

Drama on Court One as Sorana Cirstea wins another enthralling exchange and Victoria Azarenka then goes long on break point - the 12th seed wants to challenge it, but can't, she's used all three!

Did it catch the chalk? She'll never know (or at least not for the duration of this match). But it means Cirstea is back on level terms in this deciding set!

  16. 'Best of Raducanu's career'published at 19:15 BST 1 July 2021

    Raducanu 6-2 Vondrousova

    Mel South
Former GB Fed Cup tennis player

This is the best set of tennis that Emma Raducanu has played in her short tennis career so far.

She really was dictating, some variety in there - Vondrousova will not have been expecting that from her opponent. She has only been able to play one drop-shot, she's been so rushed by Raducanu.

She is definitely made for the big stage, she has been absolutely loving it so far.

GB Fed Cup captain Anne Keothavong is in the crowd watching Emma Raducanu, and she’ll be mightily impressed by what she’s seen. Keothavong selected Raducanu earlier in the year.

Raducanu has sealed the first set with a big roar. Brilliant to watch.

  18. What’s happened in the men’s singles so far today?published at 19:13 BST 1 July 2021

Earlier today, British number two Cameron Norrie reached the third round for the first time with a 6-3 6-1 6-2 win against Australian wildcard Alex Bolt.

World number two Daniil Medvedev beat Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets to also move into the third round, winning 6-4 6-1 6-2 against the talented 18-year-old.

German fourth seed Alexander Zverev safely progressed, the world number six defeating American Tennys Sandgren 7-5 6-2 6-3, as did Italian seventh seed Matteo Berrettini with a 6-3 6-4 7-6 (7-4) win over Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp.

They are joined in round three by Spanish eighth seed Roberto Bautista Agut following his hard-fought five-set victory over Miomir Kecmanovic.

However, French 13th seed Gael Monfils and Bulgarian 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov are out.

Monfils lost in four sets to Spaniard Pedro Martinez, going down 6-3 6-4 4-6 7-6 (7-5), while Dimitrov lost 6-4 7-6 (8-6) 7-6 (7-4) to Kazakh Alexander Bublik.

  19. 'Couldn't live with Federer'published at 19:11 BST 1 July 2021

    Federer 7-6 6-1 6-4 Gasquet

    Andrew Castle
BBC Sport tennis commentator on BBC One

One tremendous set from Gasquet - but after that first-set tie-break, he wasn't able to live with Federer, who got better and better.

The sustained applause is for all the memories Federer has brought.

At 39, it remains to be seen whether he's got seven victories, seven matches in him to get another Wimbledon title here. We just don't know that.

Cameron Norrie is next for him and that's going to be fascinating.

    Azarenka 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 3-1 Cirstea*

What a point! Such deft hands from Sorana Cirstea and she pumps her fist in celebration after a superb drop shot gets Victoria Azarenka striding into the net to no avail.

Azarenka has the break though and an error from the Romanian allows the 12th seed to keep just in front in this deciding set.
