    Zverev 7-5 Sandgren

Just a second serve ace from Alexander Zverev, before Tennys Sandgren responds with a superb winner at full sprint - it's not enough to stop the German soaring to the first set though. The fourth seed edges ahead on court two.

  2. Zverev in chargepublished at 11:44 BST 1 July 2021

Super game, great aggression there from Zverev, coming forward as well, clean striking,

Think he's enjoying the better, warmer conditions today - ball is zipping through the air.

    Dart/Watson 6-3 Kanepi/Zhang

Harriet Dart and Heather Watson were made to work hard at the end of that first set, surviving a break point on the latter's serve.

But two lovely Dart volleys at the net, either side of a vicious forehand from Watson, turn break point into a hold as the British pair take the opening set 6-3.

Alexander Zverev can afford a giggle with the court two crowd between serves, hammering his way to a love hold against Tennys Sandgren to keep this opening set all square.

  10. Dart & Watson break servepublished at 11:29 BST 1 July 2021

    Dart/Watson 5-2 Kanepi/Zhang*

And a great start for the British duo.

Harriet Dart and Heather Watson might both have been eliminated from the women's singles - but the British pair have made a decent start in the opening round of the women's doubles.

They have just broken Estonia's Kaia Kanepi and China's Shuai Zhang to take a 4-2 first-set advantage on court four.

Make that 5-2 after Dart follows up with a routine hold to love.

    Raducanu v Vondrousova

    Emma RaducanuImage source, Getty Images

It was some day for 18-year-old wildcard Emma Raducanu, making her Grand Slam main-draw debut, as she beat Russia's Vitalia Diatchenko 7-6 (7-4) 6-0 in a delayed first-round tie.

Raducanu has long been touted as a future star of British tennis and she demonstrated her talent in her victory over qualifier Diatchenko.

Diatchenko is ranked more than 200 places higher than Raducanu and raced into a 4-1 lead, only for the Briton to win 10 of the next 11 games.

Raducanu is now the only Briton left in the women's singles draw and will play former French Open finalist Marketa Vondrousova in the second round this afternoon.

"I had my final A-level examinations in April, so I was actually sitting for an exam two months ago," said Raducanu. "So now to be here at Wimbledon is unbelievable, it's surreal."

Andy Murray wasn't the only home hope to progress on Wednesday, with British number one Dan Evans easing into the third round as compatriot Cameron Norrie produced a gutsy first-round win.

Evans beat Dusan Lajovic 6-3 6-3 6-4, after Norrie had demonstrated his superb form in beating France's Lucas Pouille 6-7 (6-8) 7-5 6-2 7-5.

He had trailed Pouille by a set when their first-round match was suspended on rain-plagued Tuesday.

And then there was British teenager Emma Raducanu, who also advanced to the second round and is back in action later today...

There's a second-round meeting between fourth seed Alexander Zverev and American Tennys Sandgren on court two.

The German cruised through his opening match in straight sets while Sandgren needed four to see of Norbert Gombos.

We'll be keeping you up to date with that one while basking in the reaction of yesterday's glorious Andy Murray win.
