What I love about Draper is the confidence dripping from him.

Assured but not arrogant, he spoke in the build-up about showing Djokovic what he has got. Certainly doing that.

Then, at the toss, he looked his illustrious opponent in the eye as if to tell the Serb: “I’m not fazed by you.” He’s not.

And the way he lapped up the acclaim after clinching the first showed he loves the big stage.

We have another slip, this one from Draper as his left foot goes one way and his right the other, the sort of incident that could just cause a muscle pull if you're unlucky.

Draper is OK, but again has to try to battle to save his serve, 30-40.

Djokovic has got to get his mind around his game.

I felt he was wandering with his concentration that first set.

    Djokovic 4-6 1-0 Draper*

With 19 Grand Slams in the bag, including five here, Novak Djokovic is clearly not going to panic at losing his first set of the tournament.

There's no drama in his first service game of set number two, as a lovely volley at the net and then a superb get to dig out a winner at his toes helps the Serb to the first game of the second set.

Novak Djokovic had a poor game to lose his serve and Jack Draper did very well to hang in there.

The first match on grass is always tricky, and against a big left-hander [in Draper]. Now it's time for the real business. Draper doesn't need to be happy and give himself a pat on the back, he needs to think 'I'm in this'.

Wow! I mean, who saw that coming?!

Jack Draper earns a rapturous standing ovation after seeing out the opening set, looking over to his box - where there is just two of his support team - with an assured fistpump.

One down. Only two to go, until one of the great Wimbledon upsets…

Oh my! The crowd rises now on Centre Court - a standing ovation for the 19-year-old wildcard.

If nothing else, he has taken the first set against the World No. 1.

To be absolutely objective and honest, you know Djokovic had the upper hand but at the crucial moments when he needed to win them, Draper did so.

  9. Game and first set - Draperpublished at 14:18 BST 28 June 2021

    Djokovic 4-6 Draper

    OK, who predicted this?

Jack Draper has just taken a set off Novak Djokovic. It's a great serve, Djokovic on the stretch gets his racquet to it and it looks out.

It's as if time has frozen. Silence. Then it's called out, long. And the silence is broken by a huge, huge roar from the home faithful.

What a start to Wimbledon 2021. Novak Djokovic is a set down to a British teenager.

Whatever happens from here, and you don’t need me to say there is a long way to go, I’d suggest Jack Draper has already left an indelible mark on the British fans here.

Many of the knowledgeable spectators will know of his background and potential pedigree, others won’t and will be surprised he is serving for the set against the great Novak Djokovic.

Either way they will be very pleased at what they’ve seen so far. His backhand has been particularly impressive, as have the first serves he has landed.

A great sweeping forehand from Draper as Djokovic charged to the net gives Draper 15-0, three more points for the set.

But Novak Djokovic continues to pile the pressure on with a 57-second hold to love in game number nine. Faster than I can type.

Next up and Draper is serving for the first set. Against the World number one. On Centre Court at Wimbledon. In his first Grand Slam match ever. Stuff of dreams.

Draper seems to play his best tennis when he's break point down.

Djokovic frustrated - slipping and stumbling again.

    Djokovic 3-5 Draper*

If this match is a sign of things to come then this year's Wimbledon is going to be very, very special indeed.

The crowd are cheering again as Jack Draper somehow, from somewhere, saves FOUR break points and inches ever closer to the first set with a superb hold.

    Djokovic 3-4 Draper*

Draper is again on the brink after a forehand goes long but the 6ft 3in 19-year-old then sends down a bullet ace and that's another service point saved. Seven in this match, four in this game alone.

From 0-40 to deuce. That's SIX break points Djokovic has not taken. Great fighting spirit from Draper, he's chasing everything down and playing some great tennis.

We said he had absolutely nothing to lose and he's massively enhancing his reputation today.
