  1. Muguruza: 'The mission is to get away from here with a big trophy'published at 08:38 GMT 1 February 2020

    Muguruza v Kenin

Garbine Muguruza came to Melbourne with low expectations following a viral illness that nearly disrupted her tournament before it began.

"Definitely the mission is to get away from here with a big trophy," the 26-year-old said.

"But big or small celebration, it's an incredible achievement. I believe in myself that I have what it takes to play these kind of matches and to be on this stage.

"You try to just keep it calm... I'm sure at the right moment there's going to be a big celebration. For now, it's keep it calm."

Sofia Kenin is the name well less known. Given the way she played against Ash Barty in the semi-final - she won't be fazed by the occasions.

The past two years for Garbine Muguruza has been a bit of a horror show. If she plays as she does in the big finals then she will probably win.

  4. Kenin: 'I feel like everything is just paying off'published at 08:36 GMT 1 February 2020

    Muguruza v Kenin

With much of the attention in the USA on the success of Williams sisters and Coco Gauff, Sofia Kenin said she has struggled to get noticed.

"I know people haven't really paid attention much to me in the past," the 21-year-old said. "I had to establish myself, and I have.

"Of course, now I'm getting the attention, which I like it. Not going to lie."

She added: "I've pictured so many times being in the final, all the emotions, how it's going to lead up into the final.

"Obviously, it's a bit emotional and stuff. I feel like everything is just paying off."

Not a pleasant view out over Melbourne Park this afternoon.

Thick rain clouds hovered above the site - which houses the Melbourne Cricket Ground, AAMI Park (football, Aussie Rules, rugby union, rugby league), Melbourne Arena (basketball and netball) and, of course, the Australian Open tennis.

At least the heavy rain and puddles suited one sport today... note the rowers on the Yarra river doing their thing as usual, rain or shine.

Standing in the American's way is a Spaniard who knows how to win major honours.

Garbine Muguruza has a French Open and Wimbledon title to her name, but is into the showpiece of a Grand Slam for the first time since that 2017 triumph at SW19.
