  1. Mourinho watching onpublished at 14:10 BST 4 July 2019

    *Cilic 0-2 Sousa

Jose Mourinho has taken his scouting mission to Wimbledon.

No, he's not checking out the latest talent at AFC's Kingsmeadow home, but is instead watching fellow Portuguese Joao Sousa play Marin Cilic on court 12 at SW19.

The former Chelsea and Manchester United boss will like what he's seeing so far, with his countryman an early break up against the 13th seed.

  2. Game and first set Kvitovapublished at 14:09 BST 4 July 2019

    Mladenovic 5-7 0-0 *Kvitova

Petra Kvitova - a lot of vowels and a whole lot of determination.

The Czech world number six having trailed for most of the first set, nicks Kristina Mladenovic's serve at the death to ram-raid her way to the opener.

  3. Basilashvili holdspublished at 14:08 BST 4 July 2019

    *Evans 6-3 6-2 4-2 Basilashvili

Evans was running around all over the place trying to get a break point, but Basilashvili eventually manages to shut him down with a rapid forehand.

The Brit's return is way off on the next point, heading towards the umpire, and Basilashvili holds. Evans just needs to keep his head now.

  4. Nishikori breakspublished at 14:06 BST 4 July 2019

    *Nishikori 6-4 2-1 Norrie

The third successive break of serve at the start of the second set puts Kei Nishikori back ahead.

It has not been the most consistent performance from either men, but it is a very watchable match, both men with a lot of craft and brain cells about their game.

  5. Kvitova breakspublished at 14:03 BST 4 July 2019

    *Mladenovic 5-6 Kvitova

Petra Kvitova has not turned up at Wimbledon for a healthy early-round cheque and a consoling pat on the back about the arm injury she is nursing.

She saves three set points as Kristina Mladenovic serves for the opener and then breaks, holds and turns the pressure back on her French opponent.

Mladenovic serves to stay in the first set next.

  6. Evans on track for victorypublished at 14:03 BST 4 July 2019

    Evans 6-3 6-2 4-1 Basilashvili*

"Come on! Stay there now, come on!"

If we've learned anything today, it's that Dan Evans loves a bit of chatter on court. That last outburst was after Basilashvili hit a backhand wide.

Evans has a tougher task on his hands now, the Georgian has definitely stepped up his game and even Evans has to give him a thumbs up as he hits a lovely passing shot.

The Brit's serve is too much to handle, though, and Evans holds.

  7. 'Basilashvili has lost confidence'published at 14:02 BST 4 July 2019

    *Evans 6-3 6-2 3-1 Basilashvili

    John Lloyd
    Former GB Davis Cup captain

The first five or six games Nikoloz Basilashvili was making these shots, but Dan Evans has just squeezed the confidence out of him.

  8. Norrie breakspublished at 14:00 BST 4 July 2019

    Nishikori 6-4 1-1 *Norrie

    Well, well, well.

Kei Nishikori comes off the boil and Cameron Norrie takes advantage to put the second set back on serve. Those inconsistencies and opportunities for the opponent maybe why Nishikori is short of the very elite enclave at the top of the game.

  9. Basilashvili holdspublished at 14:00 BST 4 July 2019

    *Evans 6-3 6-2 3-1 Basilashvili

Nikioloz Basilashvili is ranked 16th in the world, Dan Evans is 61st. And for the first time in a while, the Georgian proves how he got to that level as he follows up his serve with a booming forehand to hold.

  11. 'Evans' game plan solid'published at 13:58 BST 4 July 2019

    Evans 6-3 6-2 3-0 Basilashvili*

    John Lloyd
    Former GB Davis Cup captain

We didn't see this scoreline coming in the middle of the first set when there were a lot of breaks both ways. Dan Evans has been so solid in his game plan, it's how stingy he's been with the errors. The slice backhand has been the shot that has won the match overall.

  12. Nishikori breakspublished at 13:57 BST 4 July 2019

    *Nishikori 6-4 1-0 Norrie

Kei Nishikori has feathered the accelerator and is pulling clear of Cameron Norrie, making the 48 rankings places between them feel like a chasm.

Another break at the start of the second set means Norrie has a mountain to climb. In ballet pumps. Made of concrete.

  13. Evans holdspublished at 13:56 BST 4 July 2019

    Evans 6-3 6-2 3-0 Basilashvili*

A huge shout and a fist pump from Evans as Basilashvili's return goes long to give the Brit a three-game lead in the third set.

Evans is looking very good out there.

Cam Norrie fist-pumped the air in the direction of his box when he went a break up on Kei Nishikori.

But, with Norrie’s game littered with unforced errors, Nishikori broke back immediately. Yet, buoyed by the crowd’s ferocious support, he showed a bit of that British bulldog spirit to keep pushing back against the world number eight’s pressure.

He saved four break points before double faulting on his own advantage. There’s a reason Nishikori is his world ranking though and he finally made Norrie pay on his fifth break point.

Norrie’s started to get a bit more animated, but he’s firmly got the crowd’s backing here.

  15. 'Evans changes the pace so well'published at 13:54 BST 4 July 2019

    *Evans 6-3 6-2 2-0 Basilashvili

    John Lloyd
    Former GB Davis Cup captain

Dan Evans, fantastic forehand. He just changes the pace so well and has done in this match. He changes it up, sees the gap and just thumps that forehand.

  16. Evans gets an early break in the third setpublished at 13:53 BST 4 July 2019

    *Evans 6-3 6-2 2-0 Basilashvili

Basilashvili double faults to give Evans the break!

But wait... he's challenging. And it was in. The ball has given the line the lightest feather of a touch.

They replay the point but Evans wins it with a beautiful thumping forehand down the line. Surely this is only a matter of time now.

  17. Game and first set Nishikoripublished at 13:53 BST 4 July 2019

    Nishikori 6-4 *Norrie

Kei Nishikori completes the turnaround of the first set.

He was down 4-2, but has tightened up the ship and taken the opener in 41 minutes.

    Evans 6-3 6-2 1-0 Basilashvili*

Basilashvili sounds like a piston moving up and down when he hits a backhand. It doesn't seem to help much - his effort goes into the net to make it 30-30.

Evans hits a backhand down the line and it's break point.

  19. Nishikori breakspublished at 13:50 BST 4 July 2019

    *Nishikori 5-4 Norrie

Kei Nishikori converts a break point at the fourth time of asking, coming out on top in a 'to-me-to-you' Chuckle Brothers tribute act exchange of volleys.

Nishikori puts the game of seaside paddleball to bed by bulleting a volley past Cam Norries' thighs and away for the game.

A slight hand of apology from the world number seven for putting generations of future Norrie at risk.

He will serve for the set next.
