  2. 'Brothers love each other, but have fights from time to time'published at 14:27 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on whether Alexis Mac Allister is looking forward to the opportunity to face his brother Kevin, who plays for Union Saint-Gilloise: "Their father is here, his other family is here. A big moment definitely for him. I am pretty sure.

"They have another brother who is playing professional football. Their cousin is playing professional football. Their father was a professional player, their uncle was a football player.

"I think it is not the first time family members have met on the football pitch. I would be surprised. But it is special.

"I saw a little thing when they spoke to each other. Brothers, they love each other, but have fights from time to time. That is how I learned when I was young. I didn't have a brother, but two sisters was bad enough.

"So I think it is special. A nice side story, but probably hopefully not the main story of the game afterwards."

Mike: Replay the Chelsea Barcelona game . . . Although not with the current players.

Are you suggesting getting all the players out of retirement now, Mike?

They should replay the 2019 Champions League final because of an obvious human error giving that penalty. I wonder what Klopp would think about that!?

  8. Klopp wants change in rules to call back playpublished at 14:18 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp returned to his initial call for a replay while saying he believes there should be a change in the rules in the future to allow officials to call back play if they realise a mistake has been made.

He said: "In a situation like this - a real, massive mistake with a lot of people involved - correct it in that moment.

"But obviously the people thought that's not what they can do. Fine, then let's do a replay and if it happens next time then give them the chance to do it like this [calling back play] then we don't have that problem [the need for a reply] at least any more."

  9. 'They are going to put it right - I believe in that'published at 14:14 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on what needs to happen to improve VAR: "In the end, they are going to put it right. Believe it or not, but I believe in that.

"Mistakes happened, they shouldn't, but that is how it is - it is fine.

"[The key thing is to] learn from it, find a solution how to deal with it.

"The solution for me is not only improving the process. Things need as much time as they need. The problems are obvious. We should try to create a situation where these people can make the best decisions."

  13. 'Top mentality is what we need tomorrow night'published at 14:03 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on the mentality his side need against Thursday's opponents Union Saint-Gilloise: "We had a good spirit before that [Saturday's game at Tottenham], I didn't need any kind of proof but that is how it is in football, you need to prove yourself all of the time. It was really special, top mentality and that is what we need tomorrow night [against Union Saint-Gilloise]. We face a team that is flying in the league, they are top of the table and doing really well. It's super special what they are doing there and we will be ready."

  14. Jota red card 'unprecedented' - Klopppublished at 13:58 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

More from Jurgen Klopp on red cards for Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones and Diogo Jota: "We will not Curtis back now for three games. On top of that Diogo Jota got two yellow cards for not touching a player once. That is unprecedented as well, I would say."

  15. I stick to the opinion Jones foul is not a red card - Klopppublished at 13:53 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on Curtis Jones red card against Tottenham: "What made this day really difficult for us is all the other decisions [than the VAR error on Luis Diaz's disallowed goal].

"In this game there was another situation where Curtis Jones got a red card and I stick to the opinion that it is not a red card.

"The ref got called to the screen and saw for the first three seconds a frozen picture. I would give immediately a red card for that picture.

"Then he sees the replay in slow motion and I would have given a red card for the slow motion, but in real time it is not a red card.

"You appeal it then the FA panel tells you 'no, it is not a clear and obvious mistake' and I think it is.

"The ref's first decision was yellow. The clear and obvious mistake is showing a frozen picture and a replay in slow motion."

So, after Jurgen Klopp’s claim that Liverpool’s game at Tottenham should be replayed after the VAR controversy, it got us thinking about the game you’d like to do over if you could?

    Let us know!

  17. 'Nobody needs further punishment'published at 13:47 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said on the match officials: "I am not angry with anybody at all. They [the match officials] made a mistake and they felt horrible that night, I am 100% sure. That's enough, for me. Nobody needs further punishment."

  18. Ref can say 'sorry we made a mistake' - Klopppublished at 13:44 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp on why a replay is the right thing to do: "The argument against that probably will be that if you open that gate then everybody will ask for it. I think the situation is that unprecedented that it didn't happen before. Something like that, as far as I can remember, never happened that's why I think a replay would be the right thing.

"If it would happen again then I think the replay would be the right thing to do, or the ref has the opportunity to bring both coaches together and say 'sorry we made a mistake but we can sort it, let Liverpool score a goal and we start from there'."

  19. 'I think the only outcome should be a replay'published at 13:34 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp said: "The audio didn't change it at all because I was not really interested in why things happened because I knew - I saw the outcome, I saw the goal and we scored. It didn't count so I was not waiting for the audio and a statement and hoping to find out how it could happen.

He added: "I think the only outcome should be a replay. That's how it is, [although that] probably will not happen."

  20. 'No matter what happens now, you lose the game'published at 13:26 BST 4 October 2023

    Liverpool v Union Saint-Gilloise (20:00 BST)

    Liverpool

Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold is talking first.

He was asked if the issues over the VAR mistake in their defeat at Tottenham provided any extra motivation.

"Taking out the circumstances and what actually happened, putting that aside, we lost a game," said Alexander-Arnold.

"No matter what happens now, you lose the game. So our motivation now is we have two games before the international break comes and we want to, and feel like we need to, win both of the games.

"It will be difficult to do so but we think we are capable of doing that so that is where our focus lies."
