Wayne Hennessey returns to a Premier League starting-line up for the first time since June 2020 and a 4-0 drubbing for Crystal Palace at Liverpool.

That was the Wales keeper's only post-lockdown league appearance and one of only three since March 2019.

Now he has to face Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani.

Man Utd v Burnley (20:15 GMT)

Is it, of course, the time of year when lots of team changes happen but six does feel like a reaction from Ralf Rangnick to that display at Newcastle.

Interesting to see both full-backs being swapped out. This is the first time the German will get a proper match-day look at Luke Shaw and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Sounds like Burnley have a few Covid cases in their camp. Nick Pope is a big miss.

  3. Six changes for Unitedpublished at 19:15 GMT 30 December 2021

Man Utd v Burnley (20:15 GMT)

Ralf Rangnick makes six changes following Manchester United's 1-1 draw with Newcastle on Monday, with three of those at the back.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Luke Shaw and Eric Bailly all come into the defence, with Diogo Dalot, Alex Telles and Raphael Varane dropping out.

Meanwhile, Nemanja Matic replaces Fred in midfield and forwards Jadon Sancho and Edinson Cavani come in for Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes, who is suspended.

Man Utd XI: De Gea, Wan Bissaka, Maguire, Bailly, Shaw, McTominay, Matic, Sancho, Greenwood, Cavani, Ronaldo.

Burnley have not played since 12 December and make two changes to the side that drew with West Ham, with Wayne Hennessey replacing Nick Pope in goal and Aaron Lennon coming in for Jay Rodriguez.

The Clarets have only named seven substitutes from a possible nine on the bench.

Burnley XI: Hennessey, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Taylor, Gudmundsson, Cork, Westwood, McNeil, Lennon, Wood.

  7. Differing aims...published at 19:03 GMT 30 December 2021

Man Utd v Burnley (20:15 GMT)

In the red corner we have Manchester United. The slightly fallen giants (it's easy to forget they finished second last season), who have had a change of direction of late and are now battling hard to gain access to the top table of elite European club football for another go at the big prize.

In the claret corner; Burnley. A Jack (of beanstalk fame) of the Premier League, who have surpassed resources and expectation in each of the last five seasons and are once again in a race to best relegation from the top-flight.

Whatever happen tonight, one of these teams will walk away disappointed and in further bother than they were before it.

Well, with around half the games gone the Premier League title race is pretty much done and dusted. Right?

Don't you worry, though, for the "best league in the world" still has some competitive fun left in it. Honest.

Tonight is a fine showcase of just that.
