    WELBEEEEEEECK!

With 91 minutes on the clock, Albion finally make a chance count and stick a dagger right into Chelsea hearts.

They work the ball right for Marc Cucurella, who chips in a cross that Danny Welbeck rises majestically and heads even more majestically into the corner of the net.

Ecstasy for Albion, agony for Chelsea.

    Close!

Kevin de Bruyne and Phil Foden link up again as the former's cross is flicked wide of the far post by the head of the latter.

When does Graham Potter's good reputation start hinging on Brighton's continued lack of ability to take chances/score goals? Been a theme for a while now - what's the point of looking good if you can't back it up?

    Almost the game-sealer.

Mateo Kovacic drives forward and threads a pass in for Romelu Lukaku in the box. The striker could fire with his right but tries to cut back in on to his left and sees his effort blocked wide.

Paul: Grealish is not for me. Slows game, rarely beats his man and invariably makes poor decisions. City a much more dynamic team without him.

It has gone a bit flat now. Brighton are trying to crank the motor again but aren't getting at the home side anywhere near as often as they were.

    Chelsea 1-0 Brighton

Mason Mount and Yves Bissouma have both been booked. They had a little coming together off the ball.

Less than 10 minutes to go. Do Brighton have a late twist in them?

  10. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:09 GMT 29 December 2021

    Chelsea 1-0 Brighton

Danny Welbeck is on for Alexis Mac Allister. Just the one change for now.

Mason Mount shoots and it deflects wide off Marc Cucurella. That'll be a corner.

Bissouma the best player on the pitch tonight, looks a cut above.

Kante is superhuman, the instant impact he has made is unbelievable.

Better game management from Chelsea now. They're playing it more in Albion's half. N'Golo Kante has inevitably helped in this regard.

There are 15 minutes to go at the Bridge. Have Brighton run themselves into the ground?

The home side are certainly getting on top again now.

So the Ivan Toney-Fernandinho thing is clearly a running rumble. The Bees striker wasn't happy to get a shove from the midfielder after booting the ball away. Was that little boot left in retribution?

It is now half-time. City lead.

It is telling that now N'Golo Kante is on the pitch, Brighton are finding it harder to get at the home defence.

The play acting from Toney this evening has been awful. He needs to stay on his feet and play football.

    Brentford 0-1 Man City

Pretty much every player on the pitch is piling in for a shove and a push. It is a coming together between Ivan Toney and Fernandinho that has sparked it. Looks like the Brentford striker aimed a little kick that connected with the City man as he was on the floor. There's no action taken, though.
