It looks like his arm is the offending limb offside there. But you can't score with that, of course. These are the kind of calls that just fuel the detractors of VAR.

It is another one of those tight, tight calls. There are millimetres in it but the lines have spoken. Brentford are still in it.

    Brentford 0-2 Man City

It is a fine header back across goal and in from Aymeric Laporte from the free-kick, but was he offside?

    And that is that.

    Or is it?

  7. Postpublished at 21:59 GMT 29 December 2021

    Brentford 0-1 Man City

It remains a slender, fragile lead for City. They are looking to manage this game to the end. Phil Foden goes down for a foul near the Bees box to take yet further sting out of it.

The do get the ball and a ball is fed to the right for Sergi Canos. But Nathan Ake keeps pace with him and sticks out a boot to head off danger.

Have the Bees got one more big chance in them? They need to get the ball first.

    Yep, Ghoddos for Thompson.

Looks like Dominic Thompson's night is over. He's played well, but he is down getting treatment and Saman Ghoddos is getting ready to come on.

Fernandinho scoops a pass the the back post, where Gabriel Jesus has found space but not the first time the striker fails to catch his effort right and it comes to nothing.

Brentford have been really disciplined and have tried to keep City in front of them. They know they're going to get one opportunity - they're still in it.

Fernandinho would not be a popular goalscorer in this ground.

The ball breaks to him after a corner but his shot is wild and off target.

Terry @21:32 yea really boring City. Only scored 51 goals in the league this year.

I don't think anyone wrote Grealish off, he's a good player. I don't think he lends this City side anything. Certainly not for the money spent. But then, they can afford it.

It would be fair to say that Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is not a happy man. I'll bring you what he had to say to the media after the home draw with Brighton once we've wrapped up the action here at Brentford.

There are 15 minutes to go.

City need that second goal to silence the crowd and kill the game off. Brentford are very much still in this.

Pep Guardiola looks anxious. With good cause too. City are making a lot harder work of this than many expected.

Pep nearly has very good reason to be annoyed as a cross into the middle is just a bit behind Pontus Jansson, allowing City to clear.
