Britton told BBC Radio Wales Sport that no other club had yet shown an interest in signing the Ghanaian international.

“He’s been great for the younger players so it wouldn’t surprise you if there was interest. He’s shown his quality this season," Britton said.

“But as it stands no one has been knocking on the door.”

"You can come up with all the plans in the world but hopefully he'll have an off-day on his debut.

"Everyone is coming to watch him really, so the pressure is off us. We've got to try and spoil the party and try to win the game."

    New Year's Day's action

    Leeds celebrateImage source, Rex Features

Twas a busy start to the year in the Championship with 10 games yesterday.

After plenty more movement in the play-off race which saw Brentford move up to third and Millwall sneak into the top six, the main course pitted the runaway top two, West Brom and Leeds, together at The Hawthorns.

And just has been the case for most of this campaign, there was nothing to separate them as a goal at each end from Baggies defender Semi Ajayi resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Leeds stay top on goal difference with both holding a nine-point gap to Brentford.

  16. 'A fresh start'published at 19:29 GMT 2 January 2020

    Swansea v Charlton (19:45 GMT)

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales at the Liberty Stadium

Both clubs are hoping the new year will bring a fresh start of sorts.

Swansea's league position is healthy - they would move back into the play-off places should they win tonight - yet their form is inconsistent and home results were particularly frustrating for Steve Cooper in the latter part of 2019.

Charlton, meanwhile, have endured a miserable run - thanks in no small part to a rash of injuries - having made a flying start to the season, dropping to 19th in the process.

Can one of these sides start 2020 as they mean to go on with victory this evening?

  17. How the table standspublished at 19:26 GMT 2 January 2020

    Derby v Barnsley (19:45 GMT)

Wayne Rooney's debut may be a welcome distraction from Derby's somewhat ropey league form.

Just seven wins from 25 games has left the Rams 17th in Phillip Cocu's first season in charge - although they did end their seven-game winless run by beating Charlton last time out despite having 10 men for most of the game.

They have a seven-point buffer between themselves and the danger zone and sit 10 points off the play-offs. Three points tonight against a Barnsley side whose own form has picked up in recent weeks would be a start, if Cocu's men have aspirations of a late surge towards the top six.

  18. Rooney arrival 'still surreal' - Ramagepublished at 19:23 GMT 2 January 2020

    Derby v Barnsley (19:45 GMT)

Wayne Rooney won't have lost his quality, former Derby County midfielder Craig Ramage believes.

"There is going to be more bums on seats because of the Rooney factor against Barnsley, that is inevitable," said , who works as BBC Radio Derby summariser Ramage.

"Everyone wants to see Wayne Rooney in a Rams shirt - it is still surreal now. He is the leading scorer of England and Manchester United, his CV is endless.

"I'm really looking forward to it, just to see that bit of quality. You may lose a bit of pace here and there, but you don't lose your vision and quality.

"It will be a great atmosphere [against Barnsley] just to get a glimpse of him, I'm excited and I think the fans are the same."

    Swansea v Charlton (19:45 GMT)

Charlton midfielder Darren Pratley returns to the Liberty Stadium this evening, where he spent five years with the Swans and made over 170 league appearances.

Pratley was a member of the Swansea side which secured promotion to the Championship under Roberto Martinez in 2008.

Swans fans will fondly remember the goal he scored from the halfway-line against Nottingham Forest in the Championship play-off semi-final victory in 2011.
