  1. Good omen for County at Celtic Park?published at 14:43 BST 19 October 2019

    Celtic v Ross County (15:00)

Ross County should arrive at Celtic Park in fairly confident mood despite being held at home by St Johnstone last time out. That stretched the Dingwall side's unbeaten run to four games, two of them away from home.

However, since County's famous 3-2 League Cup semi-final win over today's hosts in January 2016, they have been unable to repeat that in eight meetings - and Celtic won all three of last season's encounters without conceding a goal.

And, although Celtic's 11-game unbeaten run was ended by Livingston in their last Premiership outing, they remain without a loss in six home games since a defeat by Cluj in Champions League qualifying.

The reigning champions have not lost back-to-back league games since March 2013 during manager Neil Lennon's first spell in charge. That second defeat, though, was to today's visitors. An omen?

  2. Jackson, the missing link?published at 14:42 BST 19 October 2019

    Kilmarnock v Livingston (15:00)

Livingston ended a run of four straight defeats by beating reigning champions Celtic last time out to move into sixth place by overtaking today's hosts on goal difference.

However, they have lost their last five games against Kilmarnock since a win in March 2005.

The Ayrshire side have overcome the early season jitters over Angelo Alessio's managership and have now kept more clean sheets than any other side in the Premiership this season - with all five coming in their last six league games.

However, they have also failed to score in their last two home games, which explains why Kilmarnock scoured the free agent market to sign Simeon Jackson this week despite only six goals in 32 appearances for previous club St Mirren.

  3. Which Saints will be worst sinners?published at 14:41 BST 19 October 2019

St Mirren v St Johnstone (15:00)

The Premiership's bottom two go head-to-head in Paisley, with host St Mirren a point ahead of a St Johnstone side who remain the only side in the top-12 without a league win this season.

While the Buddies have themselves gone six games without a victory and failed to score in their last three home games, the visitors have fared even worse and have gone nine games without a win.

However, the positive omens for Saints is that they have gone three away games without defeat in the Premiership, having drawn them all, have gone four games without defeat in Paisley and have not lost to St Mirren in six meetings since October 2014.

The Paisley side did end a run of five defeats with a 1-1 home draw against Saints in April and maybe another stalemate is the most likely outcome.

  4. Can Celtic 'rectify' things today?published at 14:40 BST 19 October 2019

    Celtic v Ross County (15:00)

    Michael Stewart
Former Scotland midfielder on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

There's no doubt that the last two results will be something Celtic are looking to rectify. Picking up one point in their last two games against Hibs and Livingston has led them to sitting second, but they won't feel it is terminal in their quest to get nine-in-a-row. But they can't afford to keep dropping points as they have got a team in Rangers breathing down their neck

  5. No go for Edouardpublished at 14:39 BST 19 October 2019

    Celtic v Ross County (15:00)

Odsonne Edouard's fine form for Celtic and France Under-21s has apparently had a number of top scouts watching the striker's progress closely.

Manager Neil Lennon said that Celtic would "not welcome" any bids for the 21-year-old.

"We won't welcome any bids for the player that we rate very highly," he tells BBC Scotland.

"He seems really happy here, we're very proud of him and delighted he's doing so well for club and country."

  6. 'We couldn't hold Frimpong back any longer'published at 14:39 BST 19 October 2019

    Celtic v Ross County (15:00)

Neil Lennon says he could not hold Jeremie Frimpong back any longer after impressing in training, handing the 18-year-old his league debut against Ross County.

The Celtic manager also admitted it is important to bounce back after a couple of disappointing results.

"The reality is we've taken one point out of the last six, so it's important to get back to winning ways against a very good side," he tells BBC Scotland.

"I don't think the level of performance has been that bad.

"Jeremie has trained brilliantly the last few weeks. He was outstanding in his debut against Partick Thistle.

"I hope he can take that into the game today because we feel he's a very good talent."

I saw Frimpong against Partick Thistle in the League Cup and he looked fast and a good player. It will be good to see him against a better quality side. Rogic has been out of the side with Christie in good form, but now he's got his chance because of Christie's suspension

  8. Do we start 'fearing' for Saints?published at 14:34 BST 19 October 2019

St Mirren v St Johnstone (15:00)

    Allan Preston

    Quote Message

There might come a time when you start fearing for St Johnstone. It's a horrible recipe when you're not scoring at one end and conceding at the other, you're going to struggle. Plus St Mirren are tight at the back, so today is going to be really interesting

  9. Ayr aim for Tuesday appointmentpublished at 14:32 BST 19 October 2019

Dunfermline Athletic v Ayr United (15:00)

Ayr United chairman Lachlan Cameron has revealed that the candidates to replace Ian McCall as manager of the Scottish Championship club have all been interviewed, with the preferred option to be confirmed on Monday and announced the following day.

  10. Goodwin seeks home excitementpublished at 14:31 BST 19 October 2019

St Mirren v St Johnstone (15:00)

St Mirren manager Jim Goodwin explains on Sportsound he's switched to a 4-3-3 today to try to "be a bit more offensive and on the front foot". He also confirms that Ryan Flynn has an Achilles issue that will keep him out for a few weeks.

"We've had plenty of plaudits about how solid we look and how hard we are to break down," Goodwin adds. "But I want us to be an attractive and entertaining team, particularly at home. It's all well and good going away and being hard to beat, but on our own patch, we owe it to the supporters to give them something to be excited about."

  11. Cole in for Well, five Dons changespublished at 14:30 BST 19 October 2019

    Motherwell v Aberdeen (15:00)

Stephen Robinson has made just one change from the Motherwell starting XI that beat St Mirren 2-0 prior to the international break.

In attack, Devante Cole has dropped to the bench and in his place comes Christopher Long.

Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has made no less than five changes from the side that drew 1-1 with Hibs in the previous matchday.

Ethan Ross, Dean Campbell, Lewis Ferguson (suspended), Ryan Hedges and Curtis Main (suspended) drop out of the starting XI. They're replaced with Michael Devlin, Jon Gallagher, Niall McGinn, James Wilson and Zak Vyner.

Encouraging signs for Aberdeen come in the form of former Scotland midfielder Craig Bryson making a return to the matchday squad, alongside Stephen Gleeson.

  12. Cove eye Auchinleck revengepublished at 14:26 BST 19 October 2019

    Scottish Cup second round

There's one less game in the Scottish Cup second round this afternoon after the game between East of Scotland League side Penicuik Athletic and Stenhousemuir was called off with a waterlogged pitch.

The ties that do go ahead bring together Auchinleck Talbot and Cove Rangers in a repeat of last season's second-round tie, when the Junior Cup winners prevailed 2-1 at home in a replay against the side who would go on to lift the Highland League title and then promotion to the SPFL.

Cove lost their unbeaten record since joining League Two a fortnight ago away to Stenhousemuir. Auchinleck are unbeaten in 21 games this season and have scored 19 goals, conceding twice, in four consecutive wins.

This is the first round where League Two sides are involved and only one of them is guaranteed progress as Annan Athletic, who ended a run of five games without a win their last outing, host Brechin City.

At least five sides from the Lowland, Highland or junior ranks are guaranteed a place in the third round from today's matches.

Also handed starts are forwards Marios Ogkmpoe and Mickel Miller, plus Scotland Under-21 midfielder Lewis Smith. Dropping out are Markus Fjortoft, Adrian Beck, Ciaran McKenna and George Oakley.

Hibs midfielder Scott Allan drops to the bench, with Joe Newell taking his place, in the Easter Road side's only change from the 1-1 draw at Aberdeen.

  14. Alessio expects better of Findlaypublished at 14:23 BST 19 October 2019

    Kilmarnock v Livingston (15:00)

Stuart Findlay continued his excellent start to the new season by winning his first Scotland cap - and scoring - against San Marino on Sunday, but Kilmarnock manager Angelo Alessio expects more from the centre-half and his international colleague, left-back Stephen O'Donnell.

“He’s young and I think it’s important for him to get the call up," the Italian said. "He has to learn to improve his performances in the Scottish Premiership.

"He’s young, he has time, but at the same time, I expect his performances to improve in the future. Stuart Findlay as well as Stephen O’Donnell, can improve the performances of our team.”

It's not a surprise Ross County have came up and done well. A lot has been made of the co-management structure, but it seems to work for them. They'll come here with hope that they can come here and cause an upset

  16. Two changes apiece in Paisleypublished at 14:20 BST 19 October 2019

St Mirren v St Johnstone (15:00)

Both managers make two changes for today's battle of the bottom two. Stephen McGinn comes into St Mirren's midfield for Ryan Flynn and Tony Andreu replaces Ikay Durmus in attack.

Meanwhile, Tommy Wright brings in Drey Wright for David Wotherspoon on the wing as his side search for a first league win of the season, while Jason Holt is fit again and replaces Ali McCann in central midfield, with the 19-year-old taking his place among the substitutes.

  17. Frustrated Flo seeking a move?published at 14:19 BST 19 October 2019

    Hamilton Academical v Hibernian (15:00)

Hibs striker Florian Kamberi was quoted in the newspapers today suggesting that he might need to leave the Edinburgh club in January if he does not win back his starting place as he bids for an international call ahead of the Euro 2020 finals.

Born in Switzerland, the 24-year-old is also eligible to play for Kosovo and Albania.

His frustration continues as he is again on the bench today, despite having been directly involved in eight goals in four Premiership appearances against Hamilton.

However, his five goals and three assists have all been at Easter Road and he failed to have an impact on his only appearance at Hamilton in December.

  18. Debut for Celtic's Frimpong, McKay on bench for Countypublished at 14:17 BST 19 October 2019

    Celtic v Ross County (15:00)

At 18, former Manchester City full-back Jeremie Frimpong is handed his Celtic league debut, with Moritz Bauer dropping to the bench, following their defeat by Livingston.

The only other change made by Neil Lennon is Australia midfielder Tom Rogic replacing the suspended Ryan Christie.

Ross County also make two changes, with Josh Mullin and Ross Draper coming into the team to bolster the midfield.

The club's top scorer from last season, Billy Mckay, drops to the bench alongside defender Tom Grivosti.

  19. Defending centenary like statuespublished at 14:14 BST 19 October 2019

Queen of the South v Dundee United (15:00)

Big day at Palmerston. Not only are the league leaders in town but a wooden carving has been unveiled paying tribute to Queen of the South legends Billy Houliston, Allan Ball and current top scorer Stephen Dobbie to mark the club's centenary.

Former goalkeeper Ball played 731 games for the club and passed away last year, while ex-striker Houliston is the only Queens player to have played for Scotland.
