  1. Birdie finish for fighting Fitzpatrickpublished at 18:12 BST 19 June

Brilliant closing birdie on 18 by Matt Fitzpatrick sees him even up his scorecard and end an eventful back nine on a high to sign for a level-par 70.

That's some proper Yorkshire grit from the Sheffield man as he finishes with two birdies in his last three holes to make sure he gets back to three under, following his two earlier bogeys in successive holes.

Fitzpatrick is well in touch heading to the weekend, but playing parters Viktor Hovland and Bryson DeChambeau face a nervy wait just to make the cut.

Hovland shot a nice 69 today to give himself a chance, while DeChambeau was poor with an error-strewn 75 including two early double bogeys back-to-back and three further bogeys in his closing six holes.

  2. Rahm in big troublepublished at 18:12 BST 19 June

    Rahm +4, Rose +1, Spieth +4 (15)

Four bogeys in four holes for Jon Rahm.

He is one shot outside of making the cut. This is a horrible round of golf for him.

He missed a nine-footer to save par.

    Justin Rose also made bogey.

  3. MacIntyre bogeypublished at 18:06 BST 19 June

    MacIntyre +1 (15*)

Just after getting back to level par, Bob MacIntyre drops a shot.

Finding the left bunker with his second shot proved costly.

  4. Clark makes safe par at 17published at 18:06 BST 19 June

    Clark -6, D Johnson +3, Woodland E (17)

A little tentative from Wyndham Clark putting across the 17th green and he's left himself a gnarly six feet to make par.

No problem for the leader though as he knocks that in to make three.

  5. Postpublished at 18:04 BST 19 June

    Schauffele -3 (16*)

Xander Schauffele sends a pin-seeker into the par-three seventh and it comes to rest 20 feet long of the pin.

A tricky putt, with a serious amount of left-to-right break, and he nearly judges it perfectly. It just sneaks by on the high side and he remains three under with two holes left.

  6. Fine 65 for Morikawapublished at 18:02 BST 19 June

    Morikawa -2 (65)

A par at the last for Collin Morikawa to complete a fine day's work as he signs for a 65 that as of now puts him in third place on two under.

Who knows which way this will go with the later starters but it doesn't seem to be getting much easier so he may not be too far back come the end of the day.

Just a thought - if Morikawa managed to win here he'd go one Masters title away from the Grand Slam.

  7. Bogey for Clarkpublished at 17:54 BST 19 June

    Clark -6, D Johnson +3, Woodland E (16)

Those sand troubles do indeed cost Wyndham Clark a shot at 16.

Still in perfectly fine shape but if he keeps spraying it off the tee over the weekend, it's going to give the chasers plenty of encouragement.

Fair play to Dustin Johnson too, who has backed up his +4 on the previous hole with a sublime birdie. Golf eh.

  8. Rai ends in stylepublished at 17:54 BST 19 June

    Rai +1 (67)

Terrific finish for Aaron Rai who has been on form today.

He's just lofted in a delicious approach to the last, giving himself two-and-a-half feet for a closing birdie - which he sticks in.

A round of -3 puts him at one over for the tournament and comfortably inside the cut line.

  9. Rahm in danger of missing cutpublished at 17:53 BST 19 June

    Rahm +3, Rose E, Spieth +4 (14)

Three bogeys in a row and Jon Rahm needs to be careful as he is now on the cut line of three over.

That would be disaster after shooting 68 in round one.

Justin Rose makes par after dropping a shot.

Jordan Spieth gets to four over as he looks to recover and make the cut.

  10. Bogey for Morikawapublished at 17:52 BST 19 June

    Morikawa -2 (17)

The live texter kiss of death works again - talking up Collin Morikawa just before he goes and makes a bogey on 17 after finding the front bunker.

Still two under with one to play though.

  11. Brilliant bounce backpublished at 17:50 BST 19 June

    Schauffele -3 (15*)

What a way to bounce back!

After that untidy six at the last, Xander Schauffele finds the fairway at six, pops his second on to the front of the green and sinks a 40-footer!

He takes sole possession of second place.

  12. MacIntyre back to level parpublished at 17:48 BST 19 June

    MacIntyre E (14*)

Don’t rule out Bob MacIntyre. A birdie sees him back to level par.

The par-five fifth was always going to offer opportunity, and MacIntyre obliged.

A 15-footer is sunk with four holes to go.

  13. Trouble for Clarkpublished at 17:43 BST 19 June

    Clark -7 (15)

Well, Wyndham Clark's luck off the tee has run out somewhat down the 16th.

He found the fairway bunker with his drive and then came out fat from there to find another bunker about 15 yards closer to the hole.

For his third shot, he gets out of the sand and will have 157 yards to get up and down for par at this par-five hole.

  14. Fitzpatrick still fightingpublished at 17:38 BST 19 June

    Fitzpatrick -2, DeChambeau +5, Hovland +5 (15)

One thing you know about Matt Fitzpatrick is that he won't be giving up the fight. His response has been decent after successive bogeys, making a few pars to steady the ship and now picking up a birdie on the par-five 16th.

It comes from the sand as he whips a shot out of the bunker that finishes just inside 10 feet and rolls in the putt for a four.

He's still in this all right.

Wyndham Clark, using the 28 handicapper's best friend - hit it so far wrong it turns out to be right. Excellent to see.

  16. Bhatia in businesspublished at 17:34 BST 19 June

    Bhatia -1 (13)

Akshay Bhatia is pushing to try and get involved in the sharp end of this US Open, sitting on one under for both his round and the tournament after shooting 70 yesterday.

The left-hander really is a tough customer, winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational this year in a play-off, and for me he's got the right type of game to win a major at some point.

He missed the cut at the Masters and the US PGA this year but doesn't look like missing it here.

  17. Xander bogeypublished at 17:32 BST 19 June

    Schauffele -2 (14*)

Xander Schauffele misses the par putt.

A six after bombing his drive down the fairway. His first bogey of the day and he slips five back of Wyndham Clark.

I would say he'd be furious but he seems to be smiling away as he chats to his caddie.

Our colleague Steve just remarked the all-white outfit is perfectly apt for Dustin Johnson.

    A snowman on the 2016 champion's card.

  19. Rose makes first bogey of the daypublished at 17:30 BST 19 June

    Rahm +2, Rose E, Spieth +5 (13)

Justin Rose keeps his head down after finding the bunker with his second shot.

He’s been visibly frustrated over the last few holes.

A tidy bunker shot leaves him a 14-footer to save par, but he misses it.

That's a first bogey of the day for Rose.

    Jon Rahm also makes bogey.

  20. Schauffele strugglingpublished at 17:30 BST 19 June

    Schauffele -3 (13*)

Xander Schauffele's in the mayor's office but he hates his second into the par-five fifth.

His ball lands long left and trickles down the slope, leaving himself short-sided.

Ohhh, he gets a bit cute with the pitch, comes up short and his ball trundles back down to his feet.

His second is much better but he's got around 12 feet to save par.
