WICKETpublished at 12:50 BST 8 May

Patel run out 45 (Sussex v Leics 92-1)

Leicestershire’s superb opening stand is ended by a mix up.

Jake Weathereald drops a ball towards point.

Rishi Patel is off for a quick single and is rightly sent back.

It opens the door for Jack Leaning’s throw and he’s on target at the non-striker’s end.

  2. Division Two round-uppublished at 12:46 BST 8 May

A brief trip round the country to update you on the state of play elsewhere in Division Two this lunchtime.

Gloucestershire are currently 80-1 against Kent, having lost Cameron Bancroft for 12 to James Taylor. Fellow opener Ben Charlesworth is ticking along nicely and approaching a half-century.

In Derby, openers Harry Came and Luis Reece are leading the Derbyshire charge, the hosts are 86 without loss as it stands against Northants.

Over at New Road, Worcestershire are 72-4 against Durham, with England captain Ben Stokes taking the first wicket of the day on his return to county cricket.

  3. 'Barnard will be livid with himself'published at 12:45 BST 8 May

    Warwickshire 72-5 v Yorkshire

    Jonathan Doidge
    BBC Radio Leeds cricket commentator

Three of the five wickets have been playing shots at wide balls. It’s a long way wide and he’ll be livid with himself when he watches that back.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:40 BST 8 May

    Bohannon c Cracknell b Higgins 15 (Lancs 65-2 v Middlesex)

Ryan Higgins comes back on for his second spell of the morning and that decision brings immediate reward for Middlesex!

Higgins' first ball zips away from Josh Bohannon - but it takes a thin edge, according to the umpire, and Joe Cracknell clasps the ball behind the stumps.

Marcus Harris is the new man in for Lancashire - a batter who usually piles up big runs when Middlesex are the opponents.

  5. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:39 BST 8 May

    Barnard c Bairstow b Van Beek 3 (Warwickshire 71-5 v Yorkshire)

The Bears skipper is out for three.

That is a horrible way to get out for Ed Barnard who flashes at a very wide ball from Logan van Beek which is no danger at all to his stumps - even if there were two sets of stumps - and he is caught behind by Jonny Bairstow.

Warwickshire have lost several of their wickets to expansive shots being mistimed now.

Yorkshire are loving it out there in conditions that suit the bowlers despite some shots the batters might be regretting.

Ben Stokes is getting loose. Pre-lunch spell incoming.

  7. 50 runs

50 partnership for Duckett and Clarkepublished at 12:34 BST 8 May

    Notts 72-2 v Surrey

Nottinghamshire are gradually making some headway against this relentless Surrey seam attack, with Sean Abbott now joined by a second spell for Gus Atkinson.

Ben Duckett has 27 to his name and Joe Clarke has almost caught him up with 23.

Ref Russell’s comment at 11:54. Assuming Yorkshire find a Dover, won’t all three just be lost to Kent next season?

  9. Postpublished at 12:33 BST 8 May

    Somerset 82-1 v Glamorgan

Boundaries like London buses for Josh Thomas, as he finally works out Zain ul Hassan by sending the ball for back-to-back fours.

Thomas moves on to 39, and the visitors move towards 100.

  10. 'Rew experiment not a success'published at 12:32 BST 8 May

    Glamorgan v Somerset 70-1

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Radio Somerset

No doubt partly at the England camp’s behest, James Rew opened the batting for Somerset at Sophia Gardens this morning.

As an experiment, it was not a success. On a well-grassed pitch under cloudy skies, he lasted only seven balls, bowled through the gate by Timm van der Gugten.

We’ll have to wait for the second innings for his credentials as an opener to be properly tested.

  11. 50 runs

50 partnership for Jennings and Bohannonpublished at 12:32 BST 8 May

    Lancs 61-1 v Middlesex

Naavya Sharma's five overs have been tight, costing him 11 runs - and four of those came from one stroke, with Josh Bohannon slamming a widish ball beyond point to move into double figures.

Bohannon follows it up with another four off Sebastian Morgan to bring up the 50 partnership with Keaton Jennings.

It's been attritional stuff overall, but Lancashire will be pleased not to have lost any further wickets since the early dismissal of George Balderson.

Sam Cook consistently bowling a probing line and length with the new ball, taking wickets and always asking questions of the batsmen. All that means is he must be overlooked, again, for England consideration.

    Warwickshire 61-4 v Yorkshire

    Melinda Farrell
Sports broadcaster/journalist on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra

Webster was troubled with the previous ball and that one has taken off both bails.

Yorkshire have bowled well and Warwickshire continue to see their batters in and out.

It’s been a tough morning for them but the Yorkshire bowlers are cock-a-hoop because they're having a great time of it here at Edgbaston.

  15. Postpublished at 12:18 BST 8 May

    Somerset 66-1 v Glamorgan

We said that Zain ul Hassan was coming in to slow up the progress of Josh Thomas and Tom Lammonby following their 50 partnership, and it's definitely working at the moment.

The 25-year-old right arm medium pacer has only conceded four runs from his four overs so far, with three maidens.

  16. Postpublished at 12:14 BST 8 May

    Notts 52-2 v Surrey

A crunching cover drive by Ben Duckett pierces the field and brings him four runs off Jordan Clark as the Nottinghamshire total moves beyond 50.

Duckett, on 23, is starting to ease into his stride now while Joe Clarke has 11 after both Notts openers departed cheaply to Dan Worrall.

  17. Postpublished at 12:14 BST 8 May

    Worcestershire 52-4 v Durham

    Stephan Shemilt
BBC Sport cricket correspondent at New Road

Ben Stokes is a busy captain. When he's leading England he is rarely still - marching around, tinkering with the field, talking to his bowlers.

On a day like today, when he's not in charge, it's fascinating watching him fill his time in the field.

Already today he's been at mid-off, mid-on, point and third man.

There's lots of stretching, clapping, an eagerness to grab the ball. The way Worcestershire are going, he might bat today, too.

  18. Postpublished at 12:12 BST 8 May

    Sussex v Leics 74-0

A cracking start for Leicestershire at Hove.

They’re bowling along at 4.5/over with Rishi Patel, 35, and Jake Weathereald, 27, going very nicely.

A couple of fortunate nicks from Patel but then a superb flick up over mid-on off Fynn Hudson-Prentice.

Weathereald has cut the same bowler twice for fours and laid out a cover drive to Harry Crocombe.

  19. wicket

WICKETpublished at 12:10 BST 8 May

    Webster b Hill 4 (Warwickshire 50-4 v Yorkshire)

Wow, another one down for Warwickshire!

No sooner have they reached 50 runs then Beau Webster departs for four.

George Hill is into the wickets and it's another Bears wicket lost as their batters try to drive the ball away but don't get it right.

The tall Australian Webster beaten all ends up as he is bowled by Hill.

  20. Postpublished at 12:06 BST 8 May

    Lancs 47-1 v Middlesex

Promising start by the lively Naavya Sharma, who's back in the Middlesex side today and has beaten Keaton Jennings a few times outside off stump.

Sharma did find the edge of the Lancashire opener's bat, but Jennings kept it down and an awkward bounce foxed the slip fielders, with the ball rolling on to the rope.

It's a very youthful Middlesex attack at the moment, with Sebastian Morgan operating at the other end and sending down an absolute jaffa that nonplussed Josh Bohannon completely.
