WICKETpublished at 15:30 BST 4 April

    Critchley c Jack b Prest 173 (Hants v Essex 400-7)

Matt Critchley's long stint is over.

It is no wonder but that is a tired looking stroke, pulling Tom Prest's half tracker to Eddie Jack at midwicket.

It has been some innings and by some way his first class high water mark beating his previous best of 151 not out.

Another breakthrough for Hants but can they skittle the tail now?

  2. Covers being removed already in Tauntonpublished at 15:29 BST 4 April

    Som 347 v Notts 114-2

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Taunton

Superb umpiring from Paul Pollard and Graham Lloyd to take tea as soon as the players left the field just 20 minutes ago.

With overs lost as play ceased come six o'clock yesterday, they are doing all they can to minimise overs lost today.

Now the cloud has lifted, rain has moved on and the lights are having less effect, with the covers removed, and the 20 minute tea interval now over, play should resume in the next 60 seconds.

  3. 50 runs

for Dan Mousleypublished at 15:26 BST 4 April

    Warwicks 234-2 v Surrey 328

Dan Mousley has brought up a 77-ball half-century with a neatly clipped single of Ralphie Albert.

He hit nine fours along the way and becomes the third Bear to make a half-century, with Sam Hain four runs away from making it a full-house.

We're going to have some dual-spin as Dan Lawrence is back at the other end from Albert.

  4. wicket

WICKETpublished at 15:26 BST 4 April

    Kimber b Anderson 33 (Northants 164-8 v Lancs 384)

    Jimmy Anderson has five.

Louis Kimber has a loose drive at one outside off and drags on. Not the best wicket he has taken today but it brings a five wicket haul (5-54).

He remains the master of his craft.

  5. Postpublished at 15:24 BST 4 April

    Hants v Essex 400-6

Tom Prest is into the attack as Hampshire go spin from both ends and a punch to mid off from Matt Critchley brings a single and the 400 mark.

It has to be said that looked unlikely at several points not least when they were 67-3 early on day one but Critchley (173*), Charlie Allison (80) and now Simon Harmer (47*) have done sterling work.

As well as Essex have played, Hampshire have looked flat bar the odd breakthrough never piling pressure on when they have taken wickets.

  6. Delayed resumption at CLSpublished at 15:24 BST 4 April

    Durham 335 v Kent 197

The light has worsened over the Riverside and the covers are coming on just as the players were heading out for the start of Durham's second innings.

Looks like a short, sharp, April shower so hopefully won't be too long before the action is back.

    Northeast 94 c Robinson b Roach 94 (Durham 335 v Kent 197)

    Durham celebrateImage source, Getty Images

All over, Sam Northeast tries an uppercut from a short one from Kemar Roach but can only top-edge through to Ollie Robinson behind the stumps.

He falls six short of a century on his return but without his four hours and one minute at the crease, things would look VERY different for Kent.

No10 Keith Dudgeon was the only other batter to reach 20 and the only other than Northeast to face at least 50 deliveries.

Durham lead by 138 on first innings.

  8. Postpublished at 15:13 BST 4 April

    Warwicks 222-2 v Surrey 328

Lovely shot from Dan Mousley, who moves to 48* with a lovely clip off his hips off Matt Fisher for four.

Surrey can't stem the flow of boundaries, the ball is 53 overs old and the sun is out.

Bears are trying to cash in on these helpful conditions.

  9. Postpublished at 15:13 BST 4 April

    Leics 222-7 v Sussex 361

Ben Green off-drives Tom Price for four and adds another boundary from the next delivery, but that one was less impressive - a thick edge over the slips. He is 30 not out.

Ollie Robinson asks the umpires to take a look at the ball.

  10. dropped catch

Sam Northeast dropped on 93published at 15:11 BST 4 April

    Durham 335 v Kent 193-9

Sam Northeast knows time is against him if he wants a century so he is taking some chances now.

He steps across his stumps and produces a T20 ramp shot over the stumps off Ben Raine which gives Graham Clark a running, diving chance coming in from fine leg but he can't hold on.

Northeast trots a single to move on to 94*.

  11. Bad light/cloud stops play, early tea in Tauntonpublished at 15:10 BST 4 April

    Som 347 v Notts 114-2

Cloud now shrouds the Cooper Associates County Ground as the Quantocks are retreating from view.

All the floodlights are on as the groundstaff bring the covers on in case of any impending rain too.

Joe Clarke 23* and Freddie McCann 27*.

Play will recommence at 3.30 if light and rain allows.

  12. Division Two updatepublished at 15:09 BST 4 April

After chasing the ball around the Co-Op County Ground for 140 overs, Worcestershire have begun their reply to Derbyshire's 625-8 declared. Dan Lategan and Jake Libby are together and they are 16-0.

It's a similar scenario at Lord's where Gloucestershire are 3-0 in the second over of their reply to Middlesex's 445-9 declared. Cameron Bancroft and Ben Charlesworth are the two openers.

  13. dropped catch

Sam Northeast dropped on 92published at 15:08 BST 4 April

    Durham 335 v Kent 191-9

    Ooh.

Sam Northeast tries to work a Kemar Roach ball into the leg side but gets his timing wrong for once and it comes off the toe of the bat in his follow-through and spits straight at the bowler who can't take the sharp chance.

Northeast deserves a spot of luck after putting his team on his back in this innings, and he got it there.

  14. Postpublished at 15:04 BST 4 April

    Warwicks 214-2 v Surrey 328

38 boundaries for Warwickshire in 50 overs and Rory Burns is going give teenage left-armer Ralphie Albert a spin to try and get some control back as things feel like they are slipping away from Surrey.

Sam Hain has 33* with Dan Mousley on 43*.

  15. 100 runs

100 for Nottspublished at 15:03 BST 4 April

    Som 347 v Notts 106-2

    A psychological boost?

Probably not, but it earns a ripple of applause from the few fans in the green and gold down here supporting the champions.

In fairness the Somerset faithful join in too.

Joe Clarke drives Alfie Ogborne for four beautifully through the covers, elegance personified.

  16. Postpublished at 15:01 BST 4 April

    Durham 335 v Kent 190-9

Sam Northeast takes a rather uncharacteristic hack at one down leg side from Ben Raine but it allows him to run a couple to deep mid-wicket and move into the 90s.

The Durham fielders want to get him off strike to have a crack at debutant Glenton Stuurman in the next over, which will be bowled by Kemar Roach.

    Hants v Essex 380-6

    Matt CritchleyImage source, Shutterstock

Matt Critchley has played a blinding hand for Essex here after coming in at 54-3 when his skipper Tom Westley retired hurt.

His concentration is impressive and having build successive partnerships with Charlie Allison and now Simon Harmer it is his score which is propelling Essex.

He is well into his highest ever first class score having passed his previous best of 151 not out and has 19 fours and a six in his 160.

  18. Middlesex declarepublished at 14:58 BST 4 April

    445-9 declared v Gloucestershire

They batted on for 2.1 more overs, perhaps allowing Leus du Plooy to have a bit of rest before going out to field, or for Toby Roland-Jones to get his pads off and warm up his bowling boots.

Either way they have declared and Gloucestershire have a mammoth task ahead of them already, on just day two of the season.

  19. Kent avoid the follow-onpublished at 14:58 BST 4 April

Kent 188-9 trail Durham by 147

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Sam Northeast is edging towards a century on his return to Kent. But he may run out of partners.

He currently has 89 and added 52 runs for the ninth wicket with Keith Dudgeon. When they came together Kent had just lost two quick wickets after lunch and were 136-8.

Like Emilio Gay yesterday, Northeast has been meticulous to his approach with the bat and I can't really think of any scares.

He already had two centuries against Durham and now five half centuries. But Dudgeon has just been caught behind for 22 off Kemar Roach. Will Northeast be able to get there?

One more to add to the list of Father and Son dismissed by the same bowler. Dennis Lillee once dismissed a Pakistani international in both innings of the second Test in 1981. It was Miandad! I thank you.
