How Sam Hain has never got a test call up is beyond me. Surprised me a bit as well looking at his numbers, averages almost 40 in t20 in 180 games - how's he managed that?

    Todd, Stoke

April is always a popular time to board the Hain Train. Choo-choo. As we're seeing this afternoon, he has every shot in his locker you could possibly want, in any format. Expect the clamour to grow if he can keep this going until the first Test against New Zealand in June.

    Hants v Essex 453-7

Straight drive from Simon Harmer off Kyle Abbott manages to sneak under the dive of mid-on and reaches the rope as Essex move to past the 450 mark.

The lights are shining brightly and there is brooding cloud cover overhead which would suggest there is not going to be the full 34 overs left in the day.

Another hour might be on the optimistic side.

    Som 347 v Notts 158-3

Joe Clarke tried to smash Jack Leach's first two balls, only managing a filthy hoiked one wide of long on second ball.

Jack Haynes struggled with his first three balls whether to come forward or back, but played a nice one out to deep cover last ball to make it two off it.

Jake Ball to bowl in tandem with him now.

    Glamorgan 266-7 v Yorks

There are 36 overs to go at Sophia Gardens as Yorkshire continue their efforts to separate this obdurate lower-order pairing of Timm van der Gugten and Mason Crane. They have been together for 22 overs now, adding 42 so far.

    Haines c Patel b Holland 13 (Leics 245 v Sussex 361 & 18-1)

BBC Sussex's Adrian Harms wonders whether there is a chance that wind could stop play at Grace Road, with dust being blown up off the playing surface.

Tom Haines, who went for his shots in the first innings and was doing so again, hitting back to back boundaries, but now he's gone, edging Ian Holland to slip where Rishi Patel takes the catch.

    Som 347 v Notts 156-3

    Harry Everett
    BBC Sport from Taunton

The game has been crying out for a bit of spin, the seamers toiling away getting nowhere through some decent batting from the two Notts right-handers.

Left-arm spin to take the ball away from them seems a sensible play with the ball 46 overs old now.

I do not expect it to spin much but a change of pace and angle accounted for Josh Thomas and James Rew easily enough yesterday.

    Northants 201-9 Lancs 384

Bad light has brought an end to proceedings with Northants trailing by 183 runs with one wicket remaining.

Lewis McManus (41) and Harry Conway (yet to score) are the not out batsmen as Lancashire's momentum has stalled a little.

There will at least a 20-minutes break before the resumption in the final session.

    Durham 325 & 12-1 v Kent 197

Another pretty uncomfortable sting for Ben McKinney this.

He's yet to get off the mark after 13 balls, having departed lbw in single figures in the first innings, as a time when he is being talked up for potential England honours.

Glenton Stuurman has beaten his bat a couple of times while at the other end Matt Milnes has just had a big appeal for leg-before against Emilio Gay, though it may have struck him just outside the line.

Kent trying to apply the same pressure they spent the day batting under.

    Hants v Esssex 443-7

We are back under way at Southampton in blustery and overcast conditions.

Simon Harmer and Shane Snater resume a partnership that is up to 43 after a single and a two off Kyle Abbott's first three deliveries.

Essex might have a decision to make tonight with them keen to have a decent crack at Hampshire's openers before the close.

Alfie Ogborne looks much more threatening now he has gone left-arm over the wicket.

The ball is moving less, but this angle is bringing more dismissals into play.

    Can't leave those.

Alex Lees shoulders arms to one angled-in by Glenton Stuurman and his off-stump pays the price, cartwheeling away.

Emilio Gay comes to the crease after his 128 in the first innings which may dampen this early Kent enthusiasm.

    Durham lead by 149.

    Warwicks 280-2 v Surrey 328

It took until the first ball of his eighth over but Ralphie Albert has finally given up his first boundary, a lovely punch through the covers from Sam Hain who is into the 60s.

  15. Division Two updatepublished at 16:25 BST 4 April

It's early in the day's final session at Lord's and Gloucestershire have lost another wicket, with Joe Phillips removed by Toby Roland-Jones for three. They are 26-3, replying to Middlesex's 445-9 declared, and TRJ has all three - all of them bowled.

They are also back out in the middle at the County Ground in Derby where Worcestershire are now 66-0 in the 19th over, with Dan Lategan 41 not out and Jake Libby on 23.

England spinner Shoaib Bashir has sent down a couple of overs so far which cost him three runs.

I'm delighted to learn that Jimmy Anderson will be Lancashire's captain next season. His bowling is phenomenal!

Not sure if you know something we don't, Susan, but the way things are going, he might have the job for years to come.

  17. First Glamorgan top-flight ton since 2005published at 16:21 BST 4 April

    Glamorgan 261-7 v Yorkshire - tea

    Nick Webb
    BBC Radio Wales

It’s been hard going for both sides in Cardiff with Glamorgan crawling towards some respectability after losing their first four wickets in the first hour last night.

The afternoon session was a little more productive than the first with 92 runs and two wickets added to the scoreboard as Colin Ingram became the first Glamorgan centurion in the top flight since Alex Wharf, now an international umpire, in 2005.

Ingram and Cooke put on a painstaking 67 before Cooke was bowled by a snorter from Matthew Revis, and Ingram reached his ton off 225 balls before nicking Ben Coad to stand-in keeper Finlay Bean - with Jonny Bairstow’s status in the match still unclear after a hand injury.

Glamorgan may settle for one batting point while Yorkshire are having to work for a third bowling point - a situation which seemed unlikely when the home side were 28-4 in the first hour.

First runs off the bat come from Alex Lees with a lovely high-elbowed glance to the backward point boundary.

He sets off for a run, but he never needed to. He timed that beautifully.

It's the only runs of Glenton Stuurman's opening over.
