Anna Stembridge only took over as England head coach in March after previous boss Jess Thirlby stepped down.

But Stembridge has guided the Roses to a position where their Commonwealth Games destiny remains in their own hands tonight.

The 45-year-old said her team are "really confident" but have not got "carried away" with themselves.

"We're really excited but nerves are part of it," she told BBC Sport after Wednesday's record victory over Tonga.

"We want to show our best netball at the Commonwealth Games. We're very respectful but confident in what we're going to bring."

England's Andrew Griffiths won his first Commonwealth Games medal when taking bronze in the men's +110kg final in the Armadillo.

It means England have won a medal of each colour on the final day of weightlifting and Griffiths, a gym owner from Warrington told TNT Sports: "It's unbelievable, I didn't really expect to medal today but the Samoan missed all his lifts.

"It makes all the training worth it, everything leading up to it for the past ten years. I love competing, I love a big crowd and the energy that brings.

"The qualifying process was pretty tough and I was pushed all the way so getting here was an achievement in itself and to deliver that performance is a great feeling."

This is absolutely massive for England’s netball team tonight.

The objective is simple. Avoid defeat and the Roses will reach the semi-final of the Commonwealth Games. Lose and it will be South Africa who progress to the last four.

Both teams are tied on six points coming into this final Pool A game, which is effectively a straight shootout to go through, but England currently occupy second spot by virtue of the fact they boast a better goal average (1.74) than third-placed South Africa (1.65).

Defending champions Australia are already through as group winners after their comprehensive 88-27 victory over bottom side Northern Ireland earlier, along with New Zealand and Jamaica from Pool B.

England won the title in 2018 and are hoping to regain the gold medal which - aside from the Roses - has only ever been won by Australia or New Zealand.
