"He talks a lot on the pitch but he talks a bit like a robot, kind of like Terminator. It's sort of in slow motion," Zakuani told BBC World Service.

"You can see his influence on their team. He'll tell a few of the players that are rushing past him to just calm down and relax on the ball.

“But, to my surprise, when he arrived he asked for a shot of whisky in his coffee. He also had a cigarette hanging out of his mouth."

Genesio admitted the interview "began badly" before he decided not to pursue a move for the ex-Manchester City and Tottenham man.

Skiers asked to fund British competitiorspublished at 12:05

    Anna Thompson
    BBC Sport

British Ski and Snowboard has launched an initiative calling on ski holidaymakers to help fund winter sports athletes.

Currently only the British park and pipe team - the freestyle skiers and snowboarders - are funded by UK Sport, which amounts to £4.9m for the Olympic cycle leading to the Pyeongchang Games in 2018.

But alpine, Nordic and aerials skiing isn't funded which is why the ski holiday industry is backing The British Snowsports Fund - where customers will be asked to donate when they book a holiday.

Dave Edwards, chief exec of BSS, told BBC Sport: "This is the most exciting thing for me since Jenny Jones won her bronze medal in Sochi.

"British ski holidaymakers already inadvertently fund Austrian and French racers through tourist taxes or ski schools. This is a way for them to help our British racers and riders."

Britain won a first Olympic medal on snow when Jones took snowboard slopestyle bronze in 2010 but there are high hopes for more medals in 2018.
