Bilic has offered some support to young right-back Sam Byram, but praised new recruit Alvaro Arbeloa - the former Real Madrid, Liverpool and Spain man - as both "experienced" and "quality".

Meanwhile, striker Andy Carroll has started running again after injury, while Aaron Cresswell and Diafra Sakho will be back "soon".

Club record signing Andre Ayew, who went off injured 35 minutes into his debut and ruled out for four months, is "ahead of schedule".

'We want the fans to feel good'published at 11:26 BST 16 September 2016

West Brom v West Ham (Saturday, 15:00 BST)

    West Ham United

Watford captain Troy Deeney accused West Ham of showboating and "mugging off" his team in the early stages of that match, with West Ham's second goal coming via an outrageous rabona cross from France playmaker Dimitri Payet.

However, Bilic says that he has no problem with his players showing off their skills.

"I don't think my players under-estimate any team we have played so far," he said.

"We were expecting a tough game against Watford and were right.

"It doesn't bother me if someone does a rabona pass and it ends up in a goal. It is good for the confidence and the crowd.

"The fans are the most important thing for the club and we want them to feel good and to make them happy."

    Take that Troy.

West Ham do not just have off-field issues to contend with since their move to London Stadium - they have got problems on the pitch too.

Injuries have hit my old club hard, especially in attack and with the more creative players in their squad, but there are other reasons Slaven Bilic's side are struggling for form.

Last weekend's 4-2 defeat by Watford was a good example of their current issues.

The Hammers started well then got a bit complacent and stopped doing the basics - working hard for each other, allied with good organisation - that helped them do so well last season.

West Ham have had 'talks' after Watford defeatpublished at 11:20 BST 16 September 2016

West Brom v West Ham (Saturday, 15:00 BST)

    West Ham United

West Ham pulled off one of the more spectacular capitulations in recent history last week, losing at home to Watford 4-2 after racing into an early 2-0 lead.

And it seems manager Slaven Bilic hasn't been shy in setting his squad to rights.

"It was not a good performance last week, more individual mistakes and misunderstanding from a couple of players," he said.

"We have talked about it behind closed-doors. We had a really good meeting and now waiting for the reaction of the team.

"Mistakes will happen but we have to defend better and defend like we did last season."

Thunderstorm? You still need to water the pitchpublished at 11:16 BST 16 September 2016

An interesting post-script has emerged from Tuesday’s washout at the Etihad Stadium.

Manchester City’s Champions League tie with Borussia Monchengladbach was called off 20 minutes before kick-off on safety grounds after a deluge so heavy the city’s Metrolink service was briefly suspended.

At the height of the storm, the pitch did not appear to be in a good state.

However, it turned out it was playable.

Indeed, such is the excellent drainage at the Etihad and the drying conditions that followed later in the evening that if the game had been played on Tuesday, the ground staff would have needed to water the pitch at half-time.

They say you need a sense of humour for this job and Mike Phelan has it in abundance.

Instead of being bogged down with endless questions about his long-term future the Hull City caretaker manager seems to embrace it and says it how it is.

"I haven't got much to add," he said to the opening question. "We are in discussions. We have had a week of trying to sort things out. We’re still at that stage. Nothing has transpired that has made me put pen to paper."

After saying his side would be in a relegation battle a few weeks ago, he's gone the other way with Tottenham, predicting a Premier League title tilt for the Londoners.

"I think they are title challengers. They will be close with the players and the squad they've got."

Remember when Joey Barton headed up to Scotland to become the "best player in the country"?

Joey has been peripheral as Rangers have adapted to life back in the Scottish Premiership, and he's essentially been turned away from the club for a few days after a training ground "disagreement".

"Some of the things I said were inappropriate and for that I apologise unreservedly," Barton tweeted, after a confrontation with teammate Andy Halliday in the wake of Saturday's 5-1 Old Firm derby loss to Celtic.

However, he furnished the apology with this later deleted tweet.

"Apologising doesn't always mean that you're wrong and the other person is right. It means you value your relationship more than your ego."

England's dearth of quality spinners was exposed last year against Pakistan, both in terms of wicket-taking and keeping control.

It is with that in mind that Batty's experience has been called upon after an 11-year absence.

Zafar Ansari brings the spin count to four, plus Root, who will be first be rested for the one-day series.

Alastair Cook will first practise in Bangladesh, fly home for the birth of his second child, and return to lead the team in the first Test.

Haseeb Hameed has impressed as much with his temperament as his quality, while Ben Duckett gets a chance to show his range of strokes.

Sunderland boss David Moyes is pretty happy to have tied down defender Lamine Kone on a five-year deal.

The Ivory Coast international had wanted to leave in the summer, so it's a U-turn of epic proportions.

"We've got it done and we're really pleased to have him. Lamine Kone is an important player," said Moyes.
