  1. Good start for Greysermanpublished at 18:57 BST 14 May

    Greyserman -2 (68)

Five birdies in Max Greyserman's opening round of 68 to put him right in the mix so far.

The American is the best player in the field so far around the greens and that's a great strength to have around Aronimink with the putting surfaces so difficult.

  2. Young & Thomas with chancespublished at 18:57 BST 14 May

    Young, Bradley, Thomas (18:54 BST)

An all-American grouping of Cameron Young, Keegan Bradley and Justin Thomas should prove to be intriguing.

Young comes into the tournament with pretty handy recent form having won twice on the PGA Tour this season and his game looks suited to the course.

Thomas is bidding to win the tournament for a third time after his triumphs of 2017 and 2022 so could well be in the shake up.

Former Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley will doubtless be keeping a close eye on his playing partners.

  3. Six over start for Brysonpublished at 18:53 BST 14 May

    DeChambeau +6, Aberg +2, Fowler E (F)

A birdie! Bryson DeChambeau picks up his first birdie of the day at his very last hole and he can't wait to get off that ninth green after carding a six-over round of 76.

That's a horror start for one of the big favourites this week and no doubt Bryson will be heading straight off to the range to try and work out exactly what went wrong out there today.

Much more steady stuff from Rickie Fowler with a 70 while Ludvig Aberg played pretty nicely overall bar three bad holes on his back nine.

  4. Bogey start for Lowrypublished at 18:52 BST 14 May

    Hovland E, Morikawa E, Lowry +1 (1)

Viktor Hovland and Collin Morikawa both look pretty happy with their approaches into the opening hole after zipping in to seven and 10 feet respectively.

Frustratingly for both neither is able to capitalise, so par it is for the Norwegian and American, who both miss low.

Meanwhile, Shane Lowry's wayward tee shot right ends up costing him a shot. He pitches back on course but well short of the green to leave himself a tricky par-saving putt that he can't make.

  5. Rahm chips in as Spieth & McIlroy drop backpublished at 18:48 BST 14 May

    McIlroy +3, Rahm E, Spieth -1 (17*)

A second entry into the highlight reel for Jon Rahm! After that hole-out eagle on the second, he chips in for a birdie on the par-three eighth and moves back to level par.

Rory McIlroy missed the green right and chips six feet past the hole - and he misses the putt! That's three bogeys in a row and four in the last five, a really scrappy 90 minutes from the Masters champion.

But Jordan Spieth has come unstuck a bit. After joining the leaders, he's gone bogey-bogey and drops back to one under.

  6. Fleetwood hopes to stay consistentpublished at 18:43 BST 14 May

Tommy Fleetwood comes into the PGA Championship in some sort of form after a top-five finish at the Truist Championship.

Although he said he felt his game was "consistent" even when he didn’t feel fully in rhythm.

A first major title, of course, has so far proved elusive but if Aronimink rewards careful iron play then he could be in the mix.

The 35-year-old Englishman goes out alongside Scotland's Robert MacIntyre and Chris Gotterup of the US.

  7. Koepka saves parpublished at 18:37 BST 14 May

    Schauffele -2, Koepka -1, Hatton +2 (17*)

Brooks Koepka has missed a bucketload of birdie chances today but he avoids a blemish at the beastly par-three eighth by rolling in a 12-footer for par.

Xander Schauffele gets up and down for par after missing the green to remain two under. A birdie at the par-five ninth will give him an opening 67 and leave the 2024 champion in great position to make a charge.

  8. Montgomerie urges MacIntyre 'to be patient and let it happen'published at 18:36 BST 14 May

Colin Montgomerie has urged Robert MacIntyre "to be a little more patient and let it happen" as his fellow Scot chases a first major championship.

MacIntyre, 29, went agonisingly close last summer, finishing runner-up at the US Open in Oakmont.

However, the world number 12 missed the cut at last month's Masters and drew criticism for his on-course behaviour at Augusta, where he directed a middle finger gesture at a green, smashed his club into the ground after a poor shot on another hole and was repeatedly heard swearing by microphones.

Eight-time European Tour Order of Merit winner Montgomerie said: "It is the way he is. I think there is fire in his belly and he wants to better himself. That is important not to lose that but at the same time to force it, especially at Augusta or these majors where it is the ultimate test, is very difficult.

"If I am giving him any advice at all, and who am I to give advice, I would love to say to him, 'just let it happen, let it breathe, be patient and let it happen'."

  9. Brown 'battling a dramatic slice'published at 18:36 BST 14 May

    Brown -2 (68)

    Dan BrownImage source, Getty Images

England's Dan Brown speaking to Sky Sports: "I played great in the practice days and didn't miss many fairways but today I was battling a dramatic slice! I was just trying to manage it all day. I hit some good tee shots on the past two holes so might have figured it out.

"Obviously I'm happy with the score and I managed to hit enough good shots to polish the scorecard."

On playing on the PGA Tour for first time: "I'm really trying not to overthink it. I don't feel I've played too badly and I don't think my results have reflected how I am playing. I've had to make some adjustments and learn as quickly as possible."

  10. Double trouble for DeChambeaupublished at 18:35 BST 14 May

    DeChambeau +7, Aberg +2, Fowler E (17*)

Disaster for Bryson DeChambeau on the eighth that results in his carding a double-bogey five after a wayward tee shot, and flown chip, then a duffed chip before finally getting the ball into the hole.

That means DeChambeau is seven over heading down his final hole of the day.

  11. Postpublished at 18:34 BST 14 May

    Brown -2 (68)

Dan Brown is just one off the lead as he strides off the 18th.

The Englishman is making his debut in this particular major and he will be more than satisified with a good day's work.

  12. 'My caddie was yelling at me!'published at 18:29 BST 14 May

    Higgo -1 (69)

Garrick Higgo, who was given a two-stroke penalty for being late to the tee, told Sky Sports: "This morning it was pretty cold. I never want to get to the tee 10 minutes before and be cold when I have to hit a driver - far and straight hopefully - and I usually hit five putts before I go to the tee.

"My caddie dropped my trackman in the locker and I went to the putting green thinking I still had five minutes and I obviously did not. So I hit one putt, then I heard my name, and my caddie was yelling at me and I ran down and got a two-shot penalty.

"The official gave me the card and said 'you've got a two-shot penalty'. I don't think I said anything, I was going to tee off in a couple of seconds so I knew I just needed to get myself ready. There was nothing I could do about it. I can't argue with him then hit it out of bounds.

"As soon as he gave the card and gave me a two-shot penalty I was like: 'It's fine, whatever, I'll sort it out later whether it is, or isn't'. At the time, I wasn't sure if it was going to [stand].

"I actually called the rules official in the fairway and a guy came to me and I asked him about it. He said: 'You were late' and from then I knew I was even par even though I had a two-shot penalty. I'm going to play an even round and I know an even par round is a good score so if I end up shooting two over it will be OK."

  15. Oh Bryson!published at 18:24 BST 14 May

    DeChambeau +5, Aberg +1, Fowler E (16*)

Bryson DeChambeau is having a nightmare on the eighth, a par three, as he missed the green wildly to the right off the tee, then flew his chip right over the green to the rough on the opposite side!

He's short sided here so even a better effort leaves him with plenty to do just to make a bogey.

  16. Bogeys for Spieth and McIlroypublished at 18:24 BST 14 May

    McIlroy +2, Rahm +1, Spieth -2 (16*)

A club twirl from Jordan Spieth while standing in the middle of the fairway would suggest another birdie chance is forthcoming.

Not quite. It's a strangely misjudged wedge, blocked to the right and nowhere near the pin. He can't two-putt from there and that's a poor bogey considering where he was after his tee shot.

Meanwhile, the latest in a growing portfolio of poor drives leaves Rory McIlroy in the fescue grass off the right of the seventh fairway.

He can only hack out across the fairway and his ball runs out into the rough, from where he chips up to around 15 feet. This is a big putt in the context of his round - and he misses it.

McIlroy slips to two over and this round is starting to get away from him a bit.

Jon Rahm also carded a five so that group will be glad to see the back of that hole.

  17. Postpublished at 18:19 BST 14 May

    Jaeger -3 (67)

Stephan Jaeger is done for the day. The German makes a steady par on the 18th and heads into the clubhouse with a share of the lead after carding a three-under 67.

  18. Fast start for Bhatiapublished at 18:13 BST 14 May

    Bhatia -2 (2)

Wonderful start from Akshay Bhatia as the left-hander rolls in his second birdie putt in this opening two holes to instantly jump into the chasing pack behind the leaders.

Still not sure about that long putter though - looks like it's anchored to his body to me...

  19. How the golf course is shaping uppublished at 18:12 BST 14 May

Bar graph of how the holes are playing showing holes 1,2,5,6,9,13 and 16 are playing under par

Some of the talk before this tournament was about how this would not be too tough a test for the world's best golfers.

Well, as the early starters finish up, it is clear that this course is not playing easy.

More holes are playing over par, and by a greater distance than those under par.

    Welcome to Aronimink.

  20. Bryson in more troublepublished at 18:06 BST 14 May

    DeChambeau +5, Aberg +1, Fowler E (16*)

It gets worse for Bryson DeChambeau as he makes yet another bogey on the seventh thanks to more scrappy stuff, hitting the rough off the tee and with his approach, and his short game can't bail him out.

Five over with no birdies today and just two holes left to play.
