  1. Reed makes perfect startpublished at 19:58 BST 11 April

    Reed -7, Rose -5 (1)

Justin Rose gave his birdie putt a nice roll actually but it just wandered away at the death, but Patrick Reed has no such problems as he predictably nails his effort to make an immediate move on the opening hole.

Rory McIlroy's lead has already been trimmed to five before he's even completed a hole.

  2. Li leaps to six underpublished at 19:56 BST 11 April

    Li -6 (3)

Li Haotong may have spent Friday morning "living in the toilet" because of illness, but he shot 69 thanks to a run of four straight birdies late in his round.

And he's started today in similar form with birdies on the second and third to make it to six under. Li was in the final group with Scottie Schefler at the Open and is quite the character.

  3. Postpublished at 19:55 BST 11 April

    McIlroy -12, Burns -6

First-tee nerves for the leader with a high right shoulder through impact. It flirts with the bunkers down the right but carries them.

That'll only be a wedge from the first cut of rough.

Sam Burns finds the fairway. The final group is up and running.

  4. 'Most important tee shot McIlroy will hit all weekend'published at 19:54 BST 11 April

    McIlroy -12 (19:50 BST)

    Trish Johnson
Former Europe Solheim Cup player on BBC Radio 5 Live

Even though [McIlroy] had the most outrageous finish, six birdies in seven holes, the driver was all over the shop and the main problem with it was there was a two-way miss.

He missed on the right side of the holes that he missed each time, but he can’t keep doing that this weekend – and this tee shot is one of the most important ones he can hit all weekend.

  5. Scheffler up into tie for secondpublished at 19:53 BST 11 April

    Scheffler -6 (11)

Listen to that roar. It's the sound of the best player in the world charging.

Scottie Scheffler knocks in his first birdie of the week on the 11th and raises the temperature even further at Augusta National.

Rory McIlroy will surely have heard that echo right back up the hill.

  6. Matsuyama back on birdie trainpublished at 19:52 BST 11 April

    Matsuyama -5 (8)

Hideki Matsuyama dropped a shot at six after that sparkling run of three birdies in a row, but he's back on the birdie train now with the customary shot picked up on the par-five eighth.

The former champion is back to five under.

  7. Young moves into tie for secondpublished at 19:50 BST 11 April

    Young -6 (4)

Cameron Young looks disgusted with himself as his tee shot skips through the green on the par-three fourth.

The American, who won the Players just under a month back, shows why he is the current world number three with his chip back on that snakes towards the pin and then disappears for his second consecutive birdie.

He is up into a tie for second.

  8. Rory arrives on first teepublished at 19:47 BST 11 April

Rory McIlroy has this week spoke of how he built the bulk of his winning score in last year's Masters in the back nine of his second round and the first third of Saturday's round.

On moving day 12 months ago, he started with six consecutive threes - the first player to ever do so - to quickly gain five shots.

That sequence is unlikely to be replicated today, but if he can negotiate the first six holes in under par, he'll surely still be sitting pretty.

Scottie Scheffler is giving McIlroy something to think about out there, but no man is better placed to keep an eye on Rory's movements than Scheffler's close friend Sam Burns.

Playing alongside the defending champion, Burns will hope to build on his own strong finish yesterday - three birdies in the last four - and ramp up the pressure on the world number two.

  9. Flushed ironspublished at 19:47 BST 11 April

    Reed -6, Rose -5

Justin Rose was the best iron player in the field yesterday and he's flushed his first of the day on the opening hole pin high, about 15 feet away.

Patrick Reed though hits his approach exactly the same distance but about half the distance away from the flag - brilliant start by both.

  10. Solid starts for Lowry & Fleetwoodpublished at 19:43 BST 11 April

    Lowry -5, Fleetwood -5 (1)

Shane Lowry goes flag hunting on the first hole and zips into five feet.

That's superb from the man who secured the Ryder Cup for Europe in September but he doesn't get the reward that shot deserves with his birdie putt staying high.

Tommy Fleetwood also takes a par after a brilliant second shot from the sand that perches on the left of the green.

  11. McIlroy's Masters recordpublished at 19:42 BST 11 April

    McIlroy -12 (19:50 BST)

    Rory McIlroy at the Masters

Rory McIlroy as we all know by now holds the largest 36-hole lead at The Masters, and history suggests he should have no problem converting that into a second Green Jacket.

Five of the six players to hold a five-shot lead, the previous record, managed to get the job done - and there's some big names there that McIlroy has managed to outdo.

    That's some effort.

  12. Rose rues putting woespublished at 19:40 BST 11 April

    Reed -6, Rose -5 (19:39 BST)

Justin Rose had a golf game of two halves yesterday, as he was the best player in the entire field in terms of iron play, topping the strokes gained approach stats.

However, it's clear where his problems were as he ranked 62nd around the greens and 67th in putting! He shot 69 but missed a host of really makeable birdie chances and that round could've been something really special.

At five under he's still in with a shout, and if he can find his putting boots today and retain that sparkling iron play then he could really stick a low one in on moving day.

  13. Postpublished at 19:39 BST 11 April

    Scheffler -5 (10)

The birdie train comes to a halt for Scottie Scheffler, who slides a birdie putt from inside 10 feet left on the 10th hole and then looks to the sky a little bemused.

  14. Another record in sightpublished at 19:37 BST 11 April

    McIlroy -12 (19:50 BST)

    Masters Rory McIlroy

Rory McIlroy is currently 12 under for his two rounds after shooting 67 and 65 for a total score of 132, so a 68 today will see him equal the lowest Masters score for 54 holes currently held jointly by Jordan Spieth and Dustin Johnson.

Of course, he'd love a 67 or better to set a new tournament record...

    Masters 54-hole low score:

    • -16 (200) Jordan Spieth, 2015 (winner)
    • -16 (200) Dustin Johnson, 2020 (winner)

    Cantlay -3 (12)

Patrick Cantlay rolls in up the slope on the 12th for his third birdie of the day. He is one of five players at three under with another seven a stroke better off.

    The leaderboard is getting congested.

  16. Can Reed launch a challenge?published at 19:35 BST 11 April

    Reed -6, Rose -5 (19:39 BST)

These two are confirmed Augusta National specialists, with Patrick Reed a Green Jacket winner from 2018 and Justin Rose doing everything but win here over the last two decades.

Reed was only a couple of shots away from joining Rose and Rory McIlroy in last year's play-off, and he arrived at Augusta with the second-best Masters scoring average over the last five years behind Scottie Scheffler.

He won twice and lost a play-off during a dominant spell on the DP World Tour earlier this year after leaving LIV Golf, and one thing we know about Reed is that he won't back down from a fight.

If McIlroy opens the door, Reed will charge right through it.

More records could fall for Rory McIlroy today. On the flip side, he could be reeled in by a star-studded chasing pack containing several of his Ryder Cup team-mates.

Play well and he'll effectively have a second green jacket by the collar, but he's not fixating on any of that right now.

On his plan for today, he told CBS: "I think it is to keep playing the way I have been playing. Try to stay loose and free and trusting, committed and all the things I've tried to concentrate on the first two days.

"Look, there is still a long way to go. I have got off to a great start which is wonderful but there is a lot of golf left ahead of all of us and a lot of things can happen on this golf course.

"I have to stay in my own little world today and tomorrow. I know the game is there, it is just a matter of managing myself and making the right decisions when I need to. If I can do that hopefully everything will work out."

  18. Postpublished at 19:30 BST 11 April

    Lowry -5, Fleetwood -5 (19:28 BST)

Shane Lowry and Tommy Fleetwood get under way.

The Irishman booms his ball straight down the centre of the fairway but his Ryder Cup team-mate finds the right fairway bunker for the second day running.

Not ideal for the Englishman, who bogeyed the opening hole on Friday.

  19. Fleetwood aiming for improved majors showingpublished at 19:27 BST 11 April

Tommy Fleetwood finished the second round as one of three Englishman in the top 10 on the leaderboard along with Justin Rose and Tyrrell Hatton.

It is only the second time that has happened (with Rose also in a trio with David Lynn and Lee Westbrook back in 2013) but with Fleetwood having claimed his first victory in the United States at the Tour Championship last August, his aim is to now add a major to his cv having struggled to even contend last term, with a tied for 16th finish at the Open Championship his best showing.

"I guess it [winning a major] probably is the next step," Fleetwood said on Friday.

"Of course, I know it took me a long time to win in America. I always felt I've had a chance at majors as well in the past. I did say I sort of take things sort of in the present moment, and I think last year for as good as the year was, my majors were disappointing to me.

"I felt like I didn't contend in any majors, and I didn't particularly play great. So that was something that I wanted to look at this year. I've had a good start. I've had two good days, but there's a long way to go. There's six more in this tournament, and then there's three more majors."

  20. Scheffler's charge continuespublished at 19:26 BST 11 April

    Scheffler -5 (9)

Oh my word. Scottie Scheffler is right back in the frame.

For the second hole running, the American almost chips in for eagle and then knocks in a birdie putt.

He's played the front nine in 31, his lowest score ever on that stretch at Augusta National. Now tied for fourth, two or three more birdies on the back nine could well put him right in the mix on Sunday.
