American JT Poston is not going away and he's nudged himself further up the leaderboard with a fine three on 18.

That is some shot from Jhonattan Vegas on the 16th. After finding the bunker down the right off the tee it looked as though he was about to come a cropper on the first leg of the Green Mile but he lays up and spirals a glorious wedge into two feet.

Matt Fitzpatrick and Matthieu Pavon are both on the dancefloor in two but putting from downtown.

The Frenchman misjudges an effort over the ridge coming up well short and it's going to cost him a shot. Fitzy, judges his effort almost perfectly and is rewarded with a par.

It can't be a whole lot of fun when you're used to competing for majors, and every competition you're playing in, you're at the top.

He's playing at the same time as the leaders but on the opposite side of the course with not many people watching.

I think he read it wrong judging by where he was aiming, but he also pushed it slightly so it never had a hope of landing, but a par here for mere mortals is a good score today.

I feel like Scottie Scheffler is going to get to 10 under.

He's got a lovely opportunity here at 16. Seventeen and eighteen are not easy but if he finds the fairway at the 18th, he could pick up another one on the way in.

And despite the widn whipping around the green and water everywhere, he then fires a laser of an iron into the heart of the green and he'll have another look for birdie on one of the hardest holes on the course - the third hardest today in fact.

Almost an eagle for Matt Fitzpatrick on the 15th as he splashes out of the sand. He'll take the inevitable birdie though.

Matthieu Pavon's birdie putt loops round the cup twice before dropping. The Frenchman looks relieved and leapfrogs Jhonattan Vegas, who is punished for finding the water off the tee.

Matt Wallace says his golf "stood the test" on a gruelling day three at Quail Hollow.

We've not checked in with Rory McIlroy for a while but the Masters champion is into his closing three holes.

He's one over for his day, two over for the tournament and has not managed to spark a charge that some had written in his script for his third round.

Instead, while the big beasts circle at the top of the leaderboard, he will be merely an observer on championship Sunday.

Brilliant again from Scottie Scheffler, who pitches the ball from 55 feet away into the green and down to just four feet leaving an easy birdie putt to move to nine under.

The world number one leads by himself.

Kim Si-woo isn't going anywhere either, as he too makes a four on 15 from a similar position for Scheffler and he's not tied fourth on seven under.

Jhonattan Vegas gets his feet wet on the 15th as he sends his tee shot way left and straight into the drink. It'll be a penalty drop.

As he gets ready to take his third Matt Fitzpatrick can't carry the front bunker of the 569-yard par five.

Matt Fitzpatrick's round is going from bad to worse. His drive on the 14th almost crashes into the TV camera tower down the right.

He then duffs his first chip before catching his next attempt too thin and sending it right through the green with only the length of the rough saving his ball from a watery grave.

Still the Englishman has a tricky fourth to deal with but plays that well to leave a short putt for bogey.

There's relief for Jhonattan Vegas, whose tee shot nestles on a sprinkler cover and he plays a beautiful chip and run to three feet before nailing his birdie effort, like Matthieu Pavon.

Both Kim Si-woo and Scottie Scheffler have a crack at the par-five 1th in two and both come up about pin high but just right of the green.

I think that was a driver off the deck from Kim as well - we love to see it.

Alex Noren has been struggling with a neck injury for most of the year - and in fact he's played in just one event on the PGA Tour this year before this week - and that was at last week's Truist Championship!

So you could forgive the Swede for being a little rusty still, or not being tournament sharp in the heat of a major championship - but he's produced a dream round today to currently sit tied for the lead.

After being chewed up and spat out by Quail Hollow's infamous Green Mile, DeChambeau has scrambled down the 18th and escaped with his four.

He's three shots behind the leader, but having coughed those up himself over two holes, he knows precisely how quickly that can disappear.

It limits even his brutal distance with the second shot and he is talking animatedly to himself as he watches his ball trundle away from the front of the green.

Just needs to get through this hole safely.

Jhonattan Vegas is willing his putt to drop on the 13th but it's a couple of revolutions shy of disappearing for an extremely valuable birdie.

Matt Fitzpatrick's round takes a turn for tee worse when he fails to convert a par chance from just inside 10 feet. The Englishman has just not got anything going today after two rounds of 68.

Scottie Scheffler is just brilliant isn't he. He must be so excited inside himself but does such a good job of staying in the moment.

It's something he has worked on since college and he's become phenomenal at it.

Even with a shot like that, he is so non-emotional.
