Tight lie, good contact required. Ah, he's flown it too far. Good effort with the putt but his ball doesn't disappear and that's a frustrating five.

Ludvig Aberg has 14 feet for birdie that he simply must make. He doesn't and the Swede remains four back with four to play.

It's all been a bit close but no cigar for Tommy Fleetwood the last few holes, missing that long birdie putt on 15 by inches and now a great chip from off the 16th green has every chance but just wanders right of the pin.

That's his race run now with just a couple of holes left to play - it's been a valiant effort but that big slump around the turn has ruined his chances of home glory.

A little update on Bryson DeChambeau who dropped four shots in three holes around the turn to slip away from contention.

Back-to-back birdies at 13 and 14 have got him going the right way again.

If he'd started his round like that, things could have got interesting.

For the 13th Open in succession, we're going to get a first-time winner of the Claret Jug.

The most recent occasion that a previous champion became a multiple winner was Ernie Els in 2012.

No Open was held in 2020 because of the Covid pandemic.

Probably a good thing Scottie Scheffler ultimately didn't get himself into the mix with Cameron Young.

Fair to say you're not too impressed with the rule relief he got on the 17th...

From tee to green all week, Scottie Scheffler has been superb.

We know he's got a little bit of frailty with the putter and that's definitely shown. What might have been if the putter had been hot.

Maybe he would have run away with it because the rest of his golf has been that good.

True to form, Scottie Scheffler misses his par putt at the last, not that it matters to him now as he was only interested in grabbing a share of the lead.

So that's a 67 for the defending champion who will come up at least a couple short thanks almost entirely to his putting woes.

It was a stirring finish from the world number one who gave it a real go, but he's been hampered by that putting all week long.

Scottie Scheffler opted to go with the putter from off the 18th green, needing to hole it to tie Cameron Young in the clubhouse lead.

But there's so many lumps and bumps that his effort never stands a chance really and that's a bullet dodged for Young.

That's a really odd choice by the world number one, not only because a chip was an easy shot, but it was more likely to get holed that way and also he's a wizard with a wedge.

A couple of unforgiving holes, a couple of bogeys, and all of sudden Kim Si-woo is back among the pack.

Kim comes up way short with his tee shot at the 12th then misses a putt for par from 14 feet.

He needs to stop the rot on the 13th now.

Right, this is it, Scottie Scheffler from 198 yards in the the right rough, clean lie, can get all the grooves onto the ball so control no problem.

That unique swing clips the ball away, lovely sound on the contact but he doesn't look happy, it's just popped out with too much spin on the ball as it floats down short right.

He's off the green, with a chip over the bunker coming up to a flag on the short side. It's almost an impossible shot to make....

Scottie hit his ball behind the hospitality tent which is a temporary immovable obstruction. And because they couldn't find his ball then he got a free drop following the line of his ball into the area.

If they had found his ball, he would have had a different dropping area that would have been in heavy rough.

I think I've got that right. I know Graeme reads this so if it's wrong, I'm sure he'll message me!

Oh dear, that could be that now for Tommy Fleetwood as he lets an 11-foot birdie chance go begging on the 14th.

So he's now four back with four to play, he'll need something really, really special from here to keep the dream alive.

Bob MacIntyre has been speaking after finishing up at -2 for the tournament:

"I felt like I didn't have enough chances out there this week. It's not far away - feels miles away right now, but I feel like it was just going to take one good day like Cam [Young] has done today and you're writing about it. But it just wasn't my week - there's always next year."

On getting a warning: "I expect to get a few of them in my career. Yeah, I run hot. So be it. I'm going to do it for the rest of my career. I try to toe the line, but when you feel like you're playing a golf course that you can hit it pretty much anywhere and there's no real punishment and then you do hit one slightly off line and you get the biggest punishment you can possibly get, it's just a sore one.

"I'm going to react aggressively at times. It's part of my DNA. I couldn't care less. If I got a two-shot penalty, it's my fault. A warning, it's my fault. I don't really worry about it."
