Ryan Fox does indeed have to play out back towards the tee from the bunker on the 15th.

His chip back to the green comes to rest six feet from the hole.

He's definitely going to drop one shot. Will it be any more?

Ryan Fox is not used to being in this position. He's never been in contention at a major championship before.

If he can pick up one shot on the way home, it'll be glory for the New Zealand golfer.

But he's got that trouble brewing at the 15th.

Kim Si-woo scrambles well to get himself out of trouble to save par on the 14th and has a remote chance of a birdie on the next hole.

The South Korean's tee shot hits the top of the green but a lengthy putt from 40 feet stops up barely an inch short of the ball.

Kim taps in for par. He needs a birdie from somewhere on the final three holes to join Cameron Young and Ryan Fox at the top of the leaderboard.

Lucas Herbert can't find a birdie at 16 and he's going to need a birdie-birdie finish to match Cameron Young's nine-under target.

Uh oh.

Ryan Fox's tee shot to the 15th is swallowed up by the front bunker and the position of his ball, right up against the near lip, looks absolutely awful. He might have to play out backwards from there.

Could be a real momentum shifter.

Just as Tommy Fleetwood was getting going today, he made a little bit of an error at the ninth hole. That was really unfortunate and it seemed to unravel over the next couple of holes.

It's a long way back from there. He's played pretty solid but it looked like adrenaline had gone.

Didn't quite have his game this week. I feel for him as if he was on his game, he could have got the job done.

It's all getting tense now! But who will be lifting the Claret Jug in the next hour or so?

Cameron Young has the clubhouse lead, Ryan Fox has the momentum but still some tough holes to play.

Sam Burns and Kim Si-woo are hanging on in there while Lucas Herbert and Ryan Gerard are running out of holes.

I think the momentum is with Ryan Fox.

What an opportunity. He wants to play the four holes of his life.

The par-three 15th has been one of the toughest holes of the week for the field. It's playing the second-hardest of any hole so far today.

Ken Brown explains why it is a "pivotal" hole on the closing stretch - even more pivotal with the Claret Jug potentially up for grabs.

Ryan Fox's chip is superb. A fairly straightforward birdie opportunity from close range is taken and the New Zealander joins Cameron Young in a share of the lead at nine under.

Meanwhile, Sam Burns' attempted escape from the bunker comes up well short and he can't make a miracle long putt this time. Par.

Dan Brown was one shot off the lead at the end of the first round and is likely to finish inside the top 20.

He began with a double bogey today but recovered to shoot 71.

Brown is alongside fellow Englishmen Jordan Smith and Marco Penge at three under for the tournament.

A reminder of what the final five holes look like for these players.

Numbers 15 and 18 are particularly brutal.

Perfect tee shots on the par-five 14th by Sam Burns and Ryan Fox, who are both one shot off Cameron Young's clubhouse target.

Fox drills a fairway wood beyond and left of the green, while Burns finds a greenside bunker.

Not ideal but still hopes of making birdie fours.

Lucas Herbert needs two birdies in his last four to tie Cameron Young, but the 241-yard par-three 15th hasn't given the field too much this week.

Hand off the club after impact isn't a good sign as he just about finds the front of the green, some 80 feet away. He follows that with a superb lag to kick-in distance so it's a good par in the end.

Crunch time for the Australian. Needs an inspirational finish.

I feel for him but he's not been on his game. A poor finish yesterday left him too far back. It was a great start today that got everyone believing.

Two lusty blows from Tommy Fleetwood, taking out his frustration of the day, gets him up around the green on 17 but with a lengthy putt for eagle.

The result pretty much sums up his day as it looks pretty good but just doesn't have enough to make the cup. It's a birdie but it's nowhere near enough.

World number one Scottie Scheffler has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live after falling short in his attempt to retain the Claret Jug: "It was fun to be competing out there. I wish I had got a little more out of today's round but it was hard-fought. I did everything I could."

On his experiences on the 17th hole: "The play off the tee for me is a spinny cut shot and I did what I needed to do but the ball did not bounce from where it was, which was pretty surprising.

"I got into a tough spot and hit a shot I wouldn't normally try to hit but under the circumstances, you have got to try to make something happen.

"The ball went flying into Narnia there. Fortunately, I got relief from the TIO [temporary immovable obstruction] and I was able to make a birdie and keep my hopes alive."

On who he wants to succeed him as Open champion: "I've been playing this game for some time and met some good people. Cam Young is a good buddy of mine, Si Woo is a good buddy too while Sam is one of my best friends.

"I was obviously rooting for myself today but now I'll put my feet up and see what happens."

I enjoyed that Cameron Young said earlier he was going to pack his locker up while he waited regardless of play-off chances "for efficiency's sake".

After consecutive bogeys Kim Si-woo manages to stop the rot on the 13th by making par.

Kim finds the rough with his tee shot on the 14th but rather than chip out he opts for a driver hoping to run it up instead, only to find more rough near the green.
