But Kimi Antonelli's advantage doesn't last long, as George Russell blast through at the start of lap 13. It looks like Russell got into a bit of bother on the previous lap arpound Turn 10, opening the door for the world champion to overtake.
Russell leads, Atonelli is second and Verstappen is third.
Kimi Antonelli senses now is the time to pounce on Mercedes rival George Russell. There's no fighting between the two this time, and the Italian goes through to take the lead of this Canadian Grand Prix.

George Russell is now responding with what is going to be the new fastest lap of the race. That is trading between those two Mercedes, it doesn't look like that immediate threat from Verstappen is going to come.
Max Verstappen hasn't been a fan of his set-up this weekend, but his Red Bull gave him the juice to pass the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. The Dutchman then spies a chance to pass Lewis Hamilton at Turn One, who has told his team he has got no power.

I suspect George and many of the others were so nervous about tyre temperature, going into that first sequence of corners. I saw a couple of drivers in the F2 race earlier on coming out of the pits on cold tyres and having zero grip.
Charles Leclerc is up to fifth place but Max Verstappen has also gained places. The two are gearing up for a battle in Montreal, with the Red Bull driver getting closer and closer.
George Russell is just under a second clear of Kimi Antonelli, who is saying he has flat-spotted his tyres after that heavy lock up. Will the tennager get a chance to attack again?

George Russell is gaining rapidly on his team-mate Kimi Antonelli. The Italian is pushing hard on his soft tyres and locks up at Turn 13 as Russell gets alongside.
The championship leader has to settle for second place after that move, with Lewis Hamilton in third and Russell back in front where he started in P1.

it is all very, very close and everybody who started the race on intermediate tyres, now peeling into the pits to get rid of them. It clearly wasn't the right decision. The rain never came, it may have got them off the line in the better way, certainly in the hand sof Lando Norris. But, they were never going to last very long.
Franco Colapinto has moved up to seventh place, closely followed by the one remaining Racing Bulls of Liam Lawson in eighth. Oliver Bearman has vaulted up the order as early the medium pit stops continue and now the Haas driver is up in the points in ninth place.
Lando Norris has a wobble at the first chicane on his cold yellow rubber. His engineer is straight on the radio to say we're going long here, mate! The world champion is in 14th place after that pit stop.
Pete: Canada, great track... this will be spicy.. Lewis podium, Max to hit someone and Lando to say something random on the radio... heard it here first!
Lando Norris follows his team-mate in and ditches his intermediates for a set of mediums.
The world champion was at the mercy of both Mercedes cars and now George Russell is running in second place, six tenths off his team-mate Kimi Antonelli. Both drivers have started on the soft compound.
