A good save by Guglielmo Vicario and good play form Liverpool, dominating space and position. Florian Wirtz turns sweetly and tries to curl it into that corner.

That red card is by far the biggest talking point of this game so far.

There were boos inside the stadium when it came up on the big screen that VAR was checking a possible red card. And more boos when John Brooks announced that he was sending Xavi Simons off.

This game is now there for the taking for Liverpool.

It's a difficult one, by the letter of the law its down the back of Virgil van Dijk's Achilles with his studs. It's a silly one from Xavi Simons.

Seriously, can Xavi Simons have any sympathy after that challenge?

Simons was never going to get there. He rakes his studs right down the back of Van Dijk's leg. That's not clever. That's not a good challenge.

He is absolutely nowhere near the football. Malicious, nasty, reckless? Whatever you want to call it. Stupidity.
