    Another let-off for the visitors.

That red card is by far the biggest talking point of this game so far.

    Will Liverpool make it count?

I struggle to accept this as a red card. It's a small touch and only looks bad in slow motion. It's definitely a yellow but I don't believe that should be a red and the lack of consistency is a concern

    Ciaron, London

Difference with the Garnacho challenge earlier today? They're both reds, but consistency is a huge problem with referees.

There were boos inside the stadium when it came up on the big screen that VAR was checking a possible red card. And more boos when John Brooks announced that he was sending Xavi Simons off.

This game is now there for the taking for Liverpool.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Andy Reid
Former Nottingham Forest midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

It's a difficult one, by the letter of the law its down the back of Virgil van Dijk's Achilles with his studs. It's a silly one from Xavi Simons.

  15. Postpublished at 33 mins

Seriously, can Xavi Simons have any sympathy after that challenge?

    One Dutchman on another.

To his credit, Virgil van Dijk did not make a meal of it but that looked a red card all day long.

    Tottenham 0-0 Liverpool

    Gary Neville
Former Manchester United defender on Sky Sports

Simons was never going to get there. He rakes his studs right down the back of Van Dijk's leg. That's not clever. That's not a good challenge.

He is absolutely nowhere near the football. Malicious, nasty, reckless? Whatever you want to call it. Stupidity.

Studs high, downward onto Van Dijk calf/achilles. By any letter of the law that’s a red card.

    Andy Reid

That's not great, not at all from Xavi Simons. Scrapped his studs down the back of Virgil van Dijk's Achilles. I don't think he's meant to, he's overstretched.

  20. Postpublished at 30 mins

VAR check for that challenge by Xavi Simons who caught the back of Virgil van Dijk's achilles with his studs.

That was a poor, poor challenge.
